I put 3.5.166 on the other day and, even though I have it set for
automatic updates, I still had to do it manually. I just thought I'd
check just in case and I found it hadn't done anything.

I don't have TB! starting automatically, it's a manual start. I don't
know how the extra "exe" file got there but it's all working OK now.

Probably just one of those one off (I hope) unexplainable things.

Hi Victor,

I had the problem this morning on my WIN2K system.

The way to find the process is to switch to the task manager
(Ctrl-Alt-Del) and see which process is using all the processor time. I
found it to be a little programm called VSMON.exe.
The do a file search on your computer and it turns out that VSmon.exe is

We can think about that when we know who the culprit is. If it is
indeed TB, we need to narrow down why it happens on your system and
not on others. And we have found that out, we'll see what we can do
about it. ;-)

I think so too. Now the question is to find out which process that is.

Victor, can you check memory usage before starting TB and then again

resources? (If you wait until it is all bad, you might not be able to

Just an idea.

The only thing I can say is that TB! triggers a problem. Whether the
problem is in fact completely in TB!'s realm of responsibility is
yet to be proven. I naturally doubt this very much since my
experience with TB! is the opposite. I run it 24/7 on my XP system
and throughout all beta's etc for the last year, it has never
interfered with XP. I hope you persevere since I'm sure there's a
culprit.

VBG> It seemed to freeze up on retrieving my mail and about an hour

Wow! :(

Time to get ZA out of the equation I'd say. The only way to do this
would be through a complete uninstall of it.

There are other firewalls that are equally or more effective than
ZA. I personally recommend Kerio Personal Firewall. It carries a
small footprint, is VERY stable, and does only what you tell it to.
No tricks or unexpected surprises.

OTOH, I personally can't think of another client to replace TB!
with. :)

TB! and ZA don't get along on many systems. I had a very bad

TB! and other innocent applications often just trigger the *real*

I doubt it was a coincidence if this is what happened.

What problems were you having with your system. Was it blue
screening or locking up or were you having network problems that
would only go away for a while after a fresh reboot. The latter is
more typical of ZA.

Same here for Win2k and XP here. TB! runs just fine on both systems
and both systems are very stable unless there's a serious problem.
These problems have never been secondary to applications such as
TB!.

hour glass and there is continual but spasmodic internet connectivity
whilst TB! is open. See my [EMAIL PROTECTED] .

I now close TB! unless I want to get messages. The trouble is that I
can't pinpoint the time that the problem reared its ugly head. I've
tried un installing and going back a couple of betas but it's no good
:-(

Never look back unless you plan on going that way.

Using The Bat! version 1.62 Beta/17 with Windows 2000 (build 2195),
version 5.0 Service Pack 3 and using the best browser: Opera.

Though I have my dislikes for ZAP, a freezing XP system is unlikely
to be secondary to ZAP. It tends to just mess up your internet
connection or interfere with TB!'s connection to POP servers. It
takes something more fundamental to interfere with XP's stability in
that way.

If XP is freezing, I don't think this has anything to do with TB!.

Victor,

I think you just happen to be using TB! when the lockups occur or
TB! triggers the problem with the system. An errant driver is the
likely culprit. How old is your system and does it misbehave in any
other way and with any other apps?

If you wait long enough after the freezing, do you get a blue
screen. Do you have to reboot to regain control of your system?

I was blaming IE for my ailing XP system since the BSOD's would
occur mainly while browsing. However, I soon found out it was a
problem with the system BIOS and video drivers. I had to update the
BIOS. Since then, things have been rock solid.

I'd look in that direction rather than blame TB!. TB! runs very well
in XP. I've never had a problem with TB! since I started using XP
a year ago.

Is this the culprit? I personally recommend Kerio PF over ZAP, which
has caused many people many problems. Especially TB users for some
reason. Allie Martin, another moderator here has very strong views
on the topic. Besides, Kerio is free for personal use.
