I had the same problem when I switched to Yahoo! from Hotmail.

Log into your web-based account (in your browser), then go to 'Help
Desk', then go to 'POP Access and Forwarding' then go to 'Why am I
having difficulty sending Yahoo! Mail messages from an email client?'

Check out the first item listed I that section:

8<

"For security reasons, we require that you log in to our POP servers
before you may send mail from an email client. To do this, your email
client will need to download new messages before attempting to send
messages.

* If your email client sends mail first when you click "Send/Receive,"
you may need to click "Send/Receive" twice. If you can't send mail
after several tries, move messages out of the Outbox, attempt to
receive with an empty Outbox, and then try to send your message again.

* If you try both of the above steps and continue to have problems,
please make sure that you have entered your Yahoo! Mail Address as the
"From" address in your email client. You will not be able to send mail
if you have entered another address.

* Finally, you may also wish to call your ISP to ask if they block
outgoing mail servers."

The first step solved my problem.

Go to Account / Properties / Transport. Click on the More... button
behind the SMTP server name. A new dialogue pops up, check the tickbox
"Use POP before SMTP".

This way, you don't need to hit send/receive twice. ;-)

It should be pointed out that TB supports POP before SMTP. Check the

2000-12-04 Thread Melissa Cameron Barsic

Thanks for the advice, Brian. Unfortunately, I
checked all those three, and they seem to be fine.
The Bat! does receive before trying to send, I do have
the Yahoo! address as the From address for that
account, and if my ISP is blocking outgoing mal
servers, that's news to me. I can certainly check on
it, though.

Hey, that's pretty slick. I didn't even notice that!

I found that yahoo.com support SMTP Auth as well (not MD5 actually, but
it's OK).

And point out, The Bat! also supporting SMTP Authentication.

Did you try using the ISPs own smtp server as the outgoing server?
(That sometimes works).

Also, IMO there are better free email account providers than yahoo.

Re: Bat! cannot connect to server for outgoing mail

2000-12-10 Thread Melissa Cameron Barsic

Hello all,

I thought some might be interested in the answer to this problem I
posted. My ISP made adjustments to help block spam, one of which was
not to permit people to send from any mail server other than their
own. So I had to change the smtp.mail.yahoo.com to mail.earthlink.net
and the problem is completely solved. Too bad it took them nearly a
week to get back to me about it... *grumble*

Re: Bat! cannot connect to server for outgoing mail

2000-12-10 Thread Thomas Fernandez

Hallo Melissa,

I had a worse problem when I was visiting my mother and logged in
through Hamburg.de.

When sending company email with my Taiwanese edmail address as sender,
I couldn't send, because Hamburg.de wouldn't let me use their smtp
server (even though I was logged in through them). They don't allow
usage of their smtp server when the sender details are not a valid
account with them.

I couldn't use my Taiwanese smtp server, because I was *not* logged in
through them, and the error message from my Taiwanese smtp server was
"We don't relay".

Of course, I have International Roaming on my Taiwanese account, but
the roaming service provider in Germany will only send encrypted
passwords, and the Taiwanese provider will only accept clear-text...

:-(

So I ended up sending from my GMX address and use the GMX smtp server.
But of course, that From address confused all my workmates as well as
my customers

At least Earthlink will let you use their smtp server when you are
logged in through them, regardless of your From address. When I am
logged in through my Taiwanese ISP, I can use their smtp server for
any From address, or can use any smtp server which will accept my
mails.
