Just thought of something: would it help if I telnet into that account
and type QUIT at the unix prompt? (This may sound like a silly
question)

Normally yes, in my case I can by connect using Web-Base mail (to same

Actually I do agree with all your explanation.

Thanks for your explanation. The previous session usually finished by
my DUN connection going . That's Taiwan Telecom,
for your info. ;-) However, how do I send this QUIT command to the
server.

1. It's not on.
2. It's the SMTP session that is stalling.

Thanks for the thought though.

No; this happens to me often. The error message than is: "Server
reports error: previous process active. Press cancel before retrying."
or something like that. I have never found that cancel button, but if
you wait 10 minutes or so, the process will have killed itself. ;-)

Hi tracer,

Lone-Wolf>> SEND- Server reports error. The response is :Bad sequence

I've started having "send" troubles since 1.38e. I must admit that
IMHO the problem has been server-side, but I thought I'd mention it to
see if anyone else had seen anything.

I often (these days) go to send a mail and the Sending dialog just
hangs. My SMTP server is here, on-site, so I can actually see what
happens. It gets two lines into the SMTP protocol and freezes. I can
cancel the session at either end, but the only way I have found to
make it work in subsequent attempts is to wait for the server to
time-out. The very next send session works perfectly, hence my theory
that the server is at fault.

Lone-Wolf>> also a new one has popped up:-

Lone-Wolf>> FETCH - Server reports error. The response is: - ERR[IN USE] Failed

Isn't another possibility that a previous connection got dumped
without a log-off from the POP server?

Cheers,
Marck

Yes; the way I understand it, only one pop access per time is allowed.
So, if your mailbox is "in use", check whether any other of your email
clients is automatically pop-checking. Suggest to change your
password... ;-)
