In account properties » options uncheck "Enable OpenPGP". The macro
%NOPGPMIME might help too.

My constant annoyance is that apparently there's no way to tell TB to
ALWAYS use PGP/MIME (the switch defaults to "auto" but I want it "on").

For this you can use the macro %USEPGP in your template, perhaps along

It works the same as inline encrypted messages, provided both

%PGPMIME sets the PGP/MIME option to "on" for
the current message to ensure that the PGJP/MIME format is used when
the message is signed OR encrypted. Obviously, if you want to use
PGP/MIME, you want to sign your messages. Yes?

All I want is that *if* I use PGP, it shall be PGP/MIME, always.

Not everyone whom I exchange mails with privately has and/or uses PGP.

For those that are not using it, I don't want to be bothered by requesters
that tell me no key can be found (thats why I was asking if %PGPMIME
wouldn't invoke sign/encrypt automatically), and whatnot.

It should be %USEPGP. This simply sets the checkmark to "Enable
OpenPGP" in the Privacy menu of the message editor. In order to have
the message automatically signed, you have to add %SIGNCOMPLETE.

Try %USEPGP. This will enable using of OpenPGP for encryption/signing
of the current message.

Sorry, you are mixing something up. PGP and OpenPGP do (more or less)
exactly the same. PGP/MIME is a standard for sending messages and
attachments decrypted.

For PGP/MIME to work, your e-mail client has to support it (like
Eudora). If it doesn't - like TB! - you have to manually encrypt a
file, then attach it to a mail and then sign it.

Ummm... yep, that' exactly what I'm asking about. As far as I can tell,
the OpenPGP standard also dictates (from inferral) that signatures are to be
sent in-line.

Yes, and what I'm asking is if TB! does indeed understand PGP/MIME, or if it
only understands the current OpenPGP standard. I guess it doesn't...

PGP/MIME is not supported by TB at the moment. Thus, do not set this

In TB! 2.0 you'll PGP/MIME sign by checking "Sign on sending". However,
I wouldn't advise it for this list, because AFAIK it doesn't accept
attachments, but that's how the MIME sig is submitted.

It seems to work with GnuPG too.

We do allow MIME signatures here now, since this is an official

than non-MIME signatures.

Oh yes, and you can set PGP-Mime options manually in the Privacy

Very sorry to hear about this. Have you tried using the built in

It is, although the macro remedy you mention below is the correct
method to use, however:

> Quote: "!21/10/2003, 17:36:07: SEND - Server reports error. The
> response is: data, end with CRLF.CRLF"

This is most likely because your SMTP server is not handling Base64
encoding correctly. Try switching to QP encoding for 8 bit character
handling in account properties. It may work better.

Works perfectly here and always has. In fact, I use it on this list
all the time. But then I use MDaemon and not Mercury.

I think you'll find that the "buggy" behaviour you describe is in

MDP> This is most likely because your SMTP server is not handling Base64

When I read your response I realised that I'd acted in haste and not been
thorough enough in investigating before posting to the list. My apologies.

Mercury/32 *doesn't* have a problem handling Base64 encoding correctly
though. I know this for certain. However, I forgot about Spampal and Xray
sitting inbetween the server and TB! A quick check on the server and I found
the culprit straight away: Xray does have the problem handling Base64
encoding correctly. In fact as soon as I took Xray out of the loop
everything began working as it should, without changing to quoted printable
(Xray doesn't handle messages when TB! is set to QP either). I'll email the
author of Xray about this I think. He is usually very helpful.

MDP> Works perfectly here and always has. In fact, I use it on this list
MDP> all the time. But then I use MDaemon and not Mercury.

Well it seems that it does, but has nothing to do with Mercury however.

MDP> I think you'll find that the "buggy" behaviour you describe is in
MDP> Mercury's court and not TB's.

Well not Mercury, but you were on the right track though :) Nonetheless, TB!
could handle these problems more gracefully than it does. I was surprised
that access violation boxes appeared simply because the PGP/MIME message
couldn't be sent. And then a complete hang requiring a CTRL+ALT+DEL to kill
TB! via Task Manager. Bit extreme.

Thanks for you help Marck. Much appreciated.

Hold it - either %NOUSEPGP or %NOSIGNCOMPLETE is enough.

%NOPGPMIME is only of use to programmatically turn off PGP/MIME when
using PGP or signing with it. By signalling no signing or no PGP,
it's redundant to turn off PGP/MIME too.

Maybe a tad pedantic, but helps to clarify the logic.

Yes, you're correct. This is a remnant from copying a template from
TBUDL (my earlier example was from TBOT). For this list I use:

%NOPGPMIME%-
%USEPGP%SIGNCOMPLETE%-

Although I see you use PGP/MIME on TBUDL. Anyway, I will amend my TBOT
