Yes.

Could the messages have triggered another filter first?

You can do this right now, click on the little address book at the

RR 4) As a side note to the above it would also be nice of having a

You could try the alternatives tab in the filter to add the other

Yes. If the source and target folders are the same, then the message
will not be moved and the actions otherwise defined will be applied.

RR This seems a little bit of an awkward UI design if that is the
RR case. If you aren't really moving the message I don't think you

Yes. We've agreed on this on many occasions in the past. The
filtering system will be redesigned. I don't think that design
remain in the new interface.

RR I just want to copy the messages with these certain
RR people's e-mail addresses into a separate folder. So what I did
RR was set up a filter and checked just the manual checkbox

For the filter to work, you need to enable it by enabling the
'active' option under the 'rule' tab.

RR and set up a filter string of the e-mail addresses I want to
RR filter.

How did you do this? I'd assume that you put one address in the
filter string dialog under the 'rule' tab and then put the others as
strings under the 'alternative' tab.

RR Then under the advanced tab I set the copy to folder option and
RR selected the appropriate folder. How do I get this filter to now

You need only check the filter set in which you created the filter.
If it was an inbox filter then only enable inbox.

RR I'm guessing that it only will filter on messages in the inbox?

No. Once you apply the filter manually, it will work on any folder.

RR I know I must just be screwing something up.

I suspect it may be that you didn't set the filter to active or your
string entry setup is faulty.

RR 3) Does anyone know in a future version of the Bat do they plan
RR on having the TO field addresses wrap on to new lines vs
RR scrolling off to the right?

I'd hope so. You're not the first to bring this up. I've personally
brought it up, as well as others. Usually, if you make something
like this known to the developers, it'll eventually be fixed ...
just not necessarily later this week, or even next month. :)

RR 4) As a side note to the above it would also be nice of having a
RR cleaner way to add a long filter string of OR type expressions
RR vs having to type it all as one long line separated by carets
RR (|).

Actually, you can.

You could enable regular expressions under the options tab and use
the format:

(address1|address2|address3|address4|address5...)

I also see this in the help:

,-[ begin ]-
|
| Pipe character | can be used when the signal string contains two
| alternatives. For example, string John|Jack means that the filter
| will search for John OR Jack in the specified location. If either is
| present, the search is successful. If neither are present, the
| search fails.
|
'-[  end  ]-||

I don't know if it will only for two alternatives or if you can
string them along as I have done with the initial method above.

It does work. I use 'TBUDL|TBTECH|TBOT' string to play a sound to
announce the replies made to my messages :)

Actually that's how I am doing it now, but was wondering if there was
an alternative way to set up ORs. Its very difficult at a
glance to see how that filter string is set up. I usually have to
copy and paste it into smart bat or some editor in order to see
how I have it set up. It would be nice to just see a list of
addresses in a filter dialog somehow.

Thanks for the help, I'm sure just setting the filter to active
 will do the trick.

PGP uses the -- as a start of it's delimiters to match things, such as
- - begin signature etc. If PGP comes across a signature
delimiter in an email, it needs to break it so it doesn't try using
that as a break point when reading it on the other side. There is a
QT on the FAQ website that handles the - -- signature, along with a
couple of other ones.

They need to be able to identify two or more consecutive dashes at
the beginning of a line as not being a part of the signature hash.
The only way to do this would be to escape them so I don't see a
solution.

Some filtering and misc questions

2002-08-29 Thread Rick Reumann

Bat List Members,

Few questions/comments:

1) What if you don't want a message moved, just copied to another
folder. It works fine by going under advanced options and selecting
the folder to copy messages to, but I still have to select a folder on
the main page. Do I just select the main inbox folder again? This
seems a little bit of an awkward UI design if that is the case. If you
aren't really moving the message I don't think you should be forced to
select a folder to move the message to.

2) Before I describe how I'm doing it, let me describe what I am
trying to accomplish. I have a mailing list that I'm on that gets all
the messages filtered to an appropriate folder. No problem there. Now,
like most list there are several gurus on the list that are very
helpful. This list is a very high traffic list and if several days go
by where I don't get to check the list, I'd like to at least filter
out from that folder all the 'gurus' responses to messages and at
least read them. To do this I don't want to move the messages I just
want to copy the messages with these certain people's e-mail
addresses into a separate folder. So what I did was set up a filter
and checked just the manual checkbox and set up a filter string of the
e-mail addresses I want to filter. Then under the advanced tab I
set the copy to folder option and selected the appropriate folder.
How do I get this filter to now copy these messages manually? I tried
right clicking on the folder and selecting filter and selected the
manual filter only (plus checked all the types..read, etc.) but it
doesn't work. I'm guessing that it only will filter on messages in the
inbox? I know I must just be screwing something up.

3) Does anyone know in a future version of the Bat do they plan on
having the TO field addresses wrap on to new lines vs scrolling off to
the right? I often start out typing someone's name and having
autocomplete fill out the rest but after two or three addresses I then
have to go up and make sure I'm adding the correct addresses. It would
be so nice to see the addresses wrap on to a new line or at the least
keep scrolling to the right as you add them.

4) As a side note to the above it would also be nice of having a
cleaner way to add a long filter string of OR type expressions vs
having to type it all as one long line separated by carets (|).

Thanks for any help comments.
