Try replying to this message using CTRL-F4 and F4. Look at the To:
address in the reply message header field. Note that they're
different. One is to the list and the other is to me.

Would rather be able to right click the highlighted text,

Currently, no.

You could create a quick template with the handle name 'fa',
containing: %To=""%To='"%OFROMNAME" <%OFROMADDR>'

You could then use F4 to generate the message with only the selected
text, and then type then CTRL-Space. This would change the
To: headers to that of the senders.

With the use of PowerPro (a macro creation tool), I've remapped the
keys CTRL-F4 to execute the F4 command followed by the above quick
template when the reply window appears. For me, it's as if TB! is
replying to the original sender quoting only selected text. :-)

Strange thing when replying

2002-06-16 Thread Krister Ekstrom

Hi Bat! people,
I noticed a strange thing just recently when i tried to reply to a
message privately, that is directly to the sender rather than to the
list. I had selected the text to quote, but when i hit ctrl+f4 to
reply, the entire message was quoted, not the piece that i selected.
This doesn't happen when i hit f4. Is it possible to make the bat
quote only the piece of an original message that i select when hitting
ctrl+f4?

We still haven't seen a copy of a mail which *worked* on the receiving
machine (i.e. did not go into Trash). Without this, we can't make any
comparative suggestions.

The best idea for stepping forward comes from Ming-li's mail and
involves exporting the mail, manually removing/changing headers and
re-importing to the outbox before sending. By a cyclic process of
trial and elimination /and comparison with successful messages to that
destination/ you can determine the root cause of the problem.

If it turns out to be a bug in TB, this process will show where and
what is the problem.

I'm the net admin ;-) and SP1 is installed...

Facts:
- I'm the only one in here using TheBat. All others (appr. 40 clients)
are using IE5/OE5
- We are using the Atrium software as a mailserver-software. There are
domains set up for different purposes. In this case we do have an
official one for sending and receiving mail to and from the world:
@moldex-europe.com
And another one for sending mail internally: @mmmp
- It's just _one_ internal email address (and client respectively)
which shows this strange behaviour. I may send internal mail from my
internal account to anybody else within the LAN _without_ any
problems...!
- And it has nothing to do with the writing of the addresses, i.e.
when sending email from my internal account it does not matter whether
I send it to ngoeksu@mmmp or to [EMAIL PROTECTED] it will
end up in the trash folder. Doing the same thing to the same addresses
form my external account everything is fine...
- I did delete my internal account and re-installed it with a
different name: no improvement...

Both, OE5 and OE5.1, have no Junk filtering according to the READMEs.
There's one known bug where OE5 for Mac discards received messages

I don't think this would really matter.

What would interest me: what do the headers look like from other

I noticed you're using a combined smtp/pop3/imap4 server. What
are you using internally for mail collection? POP3 or IMAP4? Am

I also found Atrium Software has a service pack (SP1) for their

tell your network administrator about it.

> - There are _no_ filters defined on that machine

I checked MS web site and it says the Junk Mail Filter I
mentioned earlier is no longer avaiable in OE5. If your
colleague didn't set up any filter, then there's none.

However, I still think the problem is more likely at the OE's
side, for there's no direct interaction between TB and OE, all
TB could do is to send a message with the right header
information. As far as I can tell, the message example you gave
us is very standard. How OE manages to put a standard message in
the trash folder is beyond me.

Are you the only one on your local LAN that uses TB? If so, may
I suggest the following so we can narrow down the focus a little
bit:

1. Create an account in your TB for one of your colleague (e.g.,
Mr. Goeksu, the one who has trouble receiving your message). You
don't really need their password if that's a concern (assuming
you don't need a password to send mail). All you need is their
id. Set it up and send a message from that account to Mr.
Goeksu, and see if the message land in the trash folder.

2. See if Mr. Goeksu may create a filter in his OE for you
(filter it into his Inbox, e.g.), and see if that works.

3. Create a message with the troubled account, but don't send it
out immediately. Put it in the Outbox instead, and export it to
a standard .msg file. Use a text editor to open the file, and
take out the following line:

> X-Mailer: The Bat! (v1.45 Beta/4) Personal

which is the only one unique to TB! as I know. Then reimport the
msg file into TB!'s Outbox and send it out. And see how it end
up in Mr. Goeksu's OE.

That's all I can think of right now. Good luck.

My experience is the opposite. All of my friends outside the

trashed and they *all* receive my mail just fine. :-/

Well, I think Ming-Li might be on the right path. Looking at the
headers Wolfgang posted all email address references might appear
invalid to OE:

If there's an active Spam filter this might erroneously conclude that
somebody is sending with a faked From header and hence trash the
message.

That might help, but I still suggest the real answer lies within the

  - There are _no_ filters defined on that machine
  - This user has a second "offical" account: @moldex-europe.com This
one receives the mail correctly, if I do send it from my "official"
  account...
  - Replying to emails received from the colleagues internal account
  results in the trash folder.
  Again:
  - Sending the same email to multiple (internal) recipients using
TheBat will run OK to all - except the one above
  - Doing so with another client but the same settings ain't no
  problem

Okay - I stand corrected. How completely bizarre! In that case I have
no idea whatsoever why that would happen. Perhaps RitLABS need to
check out the kind of mail that is subject to such deletion. I know I
send mail to a lot of OE5 users who have never reported this issue.

Hi Wolfgang,

No mail goes to the trash folder by itself. No, not even junk
mail. Are you sure the OE5 your colleague is using has no filter
at all? Not a single one? I remember at least some versions of
OE came with pre-configured junk mail filters. (It caused a
small fuss in the news for it turned out MS put some of its
competitors' domain in them.) Could that be it?

If there's no privacy or trade secret concern, please post the
complete header information of the deleted mail (not from your
sent mail box, but the one actually landed in the trash folder)
so people here might have a better clue.

The only reason OE5 would put anything in the trash on an automatic is
because it has instructions to do so. OE5 does have a filtering
system. Check it. There is no other reason I can think of that OE5
would trash any mail automatically.

Any-one else agree or disagree on this point? It just seems like logic
to me.

WA> Sending mail with another mail-client ain't no problem...

Then perhaps the addressing on the mail coming from that client is
different and isn't triggering the filter. I can think of no other
explanation for such behaviour. There is *certainly* nothing you can
do in TB that will cause OE to chuck away mail on-a-whim.

What happens when a mail comes from the OE5 user and you write a reply
to that message?

strange thing...

2000-07-03 Thread Wolfgang Armbruster

Hello TBUDL,

I'm using several mail-accounts with TheBat. One of them is used for
"internal mails" within our LAN. The domain name does not use a
"dot-extension" (i.e. just user@mmmp) and therefore is no regular
  mail-domain, though it works.

Lately I've found that while sending "internal mail" to one specific
address, the recipient finds the new mail automatically in the
"deleted objects"-folder. Not in the inbox...!?

This happens only with one specific address!

I deleted the address and the internal account and recreated both...
  without any improvement.

Fact is: When sending mail to the same address with the same account
settings but a different mail-client it works...!

Strange thing... Any advice where to look anybody?
  Thanks.
