I guess you filter on something like his mail-address.

As Alexander wrote, most (!) mailing lists set the Reply-to Headerto
the list address. I for myself filter the Header "List-Id".

You should pay attention though, that these filters are performed
prior to those which filter for the senders mail-address. This way I
have no trouble with private correspondence with list members.

Another note... maybe I got you wrong first... do you mean that the
"priority" of the new filtering system (from top to bottom) is broken in
v3? ie. is your "private" filter is lower in the list of filters than your
"list" filter?

That doesn't need to be corrected - the filter works as expected: any
message from your friend goes to the folder where you keep the
conversations with him.

You have to adapt your filter to a more precise match of what you want to
see in your private folder and what should go to the list folder.

Find out how you can identify a list message. Press F9 to see the message
source with all headers, view a couple of list messages to find a unique
identifier. Many mailing lists (like this one) set an additional header
"Reply-To" which contains the list adress (so that any replies, like the
one I'm writing to you now, go to the list instead of the original sender).

Now, if I wanted to make sure I catch no "list-mail" from *you* to be
sorted into my private folder, I'd set up a search string like this:

  sender *contains* [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   AND
header *does not contain* reply-to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thats it.

If your friend is on multiple lists that you have to adapt the filter
further, for example with a "block":

  sender *contains* [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   AND
header *does not contain* reply-to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
OR
header *does not contain* reply-to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Vs. 3 sorting problem

2004-09-07 Thread Gunivortus Goos
Hi,

the new filter-sorting system makes troubles here.
Example:

A friend, [EMAIL PROTECTED] is member of a mailinglist. His contributions to that
list are sorted in the correct listfolder.
But we're writing also a lot in private, so I've a folder especially for his
mails. He's writing me with the same emailaddress. Now all messages he writes to
that mailinglist are also sorted in my private folder for him.

If that was just one person, I could easily live with it, but I've folders for a
lot of people I'm corresponding with, and they're also writing in most of my
mailinglists. That means, all listcontributions from them are also sorted in
their private folders here. Together it makes a bad mass.
Could that please be corrected?
F.i. a filterstring should just sorted once.
