Re: [Tex-music] prepmx failing on example document

2018-04-07 Thread Christof Hesse

Hallo Benedikt,

Hello everyone,

I have been wanting to start using MusiXTeX for some time now, but the
following error prevented me from doing so. I have searched for a
solution in various places online, but could not find any. Hopefully,
someone here can help me.

When I try to run musixtex on the example file netsoos.mtx from the
MusiXTeX site [1], I get the following output in the console

d:\folder>musixtex netsoos
This is musixtex.lua version 0.19.
==> This is M-Tx 0.63 (Music from TeXt) <7 January 2018>
!! prepmx preprocessing of netsoos.mtx fails.

and the program crashes.
The (rather unhelpful) content of musixtex.log is

This is musixtex.lua version 0.19.
Processing netsoos.mtx
prepmx netsoos
!! prepmx preprocessing of netsoos.mtx fails.

I am using MiKTeX on Windows 10.

Any ideas on what might be the problem?
(Note: I do not have a full MiKTeX installation. Could any missing
packages be causing this behavior?)

Thank you for your help

Benedikt

PS: Some time ago I posted a question about this on tex.SE [2]. Then, I
got the additional error message

C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.9\scripts\musixtex\musixtex.lua:564: bad
argument #1 to 'write' (string expected, got nil)

This message is not present with the current version of musixtex (and
m-tx), but it may still be the same error.

Re: [Tex-music] Placement of a one-bar coda

Raphaela,

my idea would be to write the notes first with noteedit, export the result to musixtex and go there further. I enclose the musixtex- source (Latex, not TeX!) and the resulting pdf.

Betreff: [Tex-music] Placement of a one-bar coda

Hello all,

Could some kind person please help me with a layout issue? I'm
typesetting a guitar piece which has a one-bar coda, and what I would
like to do is something along the lines of the (highly schematic)
example layout in the attached file -- except that the final bar
should be placed alongside the instruction "da capo...fine" and
beneath where I've placed the "FINE" heading, rather than on the
following line where it currently appears.

Unfortunately my understanding of TeX is extremely limited. The layout
in the example, with the coda to be placed below the last partial line
of music, was provided by members of this list over ten years ago.
Sadly, adapting it to place the coda where I want it is beyond my
capabilities.

I'd be most grateful for help!

Dear all,

xml2pmx is now available as linux binary.

Support of the "Oberon Linux Revival" group and in particular of Peter
Matthias is gratefully acknowledged.

I am still working on a few limitations of the tool. Once they are
resolved and I have dealt with your feedback,
I will publish the program under GPL.

Happy testing on Windows and on linux!

Re: [Tex-music] musixtex with more than 20 music examples

2014-09-02 Thread Christof Hesse
I was faced by the same problem, but helped myself in another way: I tried to build a kind of flute method with many pieces. I processed each piece with Latex X, musixflx X, Latex X and dvips X and treatd the postscript files as grahhics. This proved to be much easier than trying to cope with just one big TEX- file.

Yes, and come to think of it, we built the MusiXTeX manual with LaTeX and
with many many more than 20 \startextract...\endextract

To get help, you really should post an example of a LaTeX source that fails.
And be sure to also post any custom TeX files you included.

And the LaTeX source! Are you working with \startextract...\endextract or

I already made a book with about 100 short extracts.

Re: [Tex-music] musixps and extracting separate parts

Hello Terry,

why not use pmx and scor2prt? You can write the score in a first step, e.g.
with noteedit and then extract the three instruments with scor2prt as three
separate *.tex- files.

Kind regards

Re: [Tex-music] Beginer question - lines run off the page without manual breaks

2011-02-09 Thread Christof Hesse
Hello Kristopher,
there is no simple way for musixtex.

you must have musixtxex inyour tex- path and another program musiflx (a C-
prgram) on your computer. There is a 2- path approach: once a *.tex- file,
then musixflx "texfile", then latex or tex XXX.Tex, then you get a *.dvi --
file which can be read for instance by kdvi.

Lieber Cornelius,
