[Texascavers] The TSA Wants You Back!
We want you back! The long-promised and even longer delayed back issue of the June 2005 edition The TEXAS CAVER has been mailed out this past weekend. If you were a TSA member in 2005 and feel that you should have received a copy, but, haven't by this time next week, please contact me and I'll get you a copy. If you have been patient enough to stick with the TSA through a couple of lean years when there was very few or no newsletters to enjoy, we thank you for your continued membership and patronage. If you, understandably, allowed your membership to lapse because of the sporadic publication schedule, we hope you will give the TSA another chance and renew your membership. The TEXAS CAVER is now being published on a regular quarterly schedule and still continues to be the voice of caving in Texas. We now have advertisers and each issue is full of pictures and articles chronicling the many cave adventures and other TSA activities throughout the state and region and each will beckon you to join them on the next trip! Membership is still only $20 and you can either join by mail, online at www.cavetexas.org, or at the TSA Convention in Albert, TX the weekend of April 13th thru the 15th. (THIS WEEKEND!) The 2007 TSA officers, John Brooks-Chairman, Jacqui Bills-Thomas-Vice Chair, Michael Cicherski-Treasurer, and me, Mark Alman-Secretary and Editor, are doing our part to reinvigorate the TSA and bring the world of caving to a whole new generation and we'd like to take you along. Please consider joining us on this brave, new trip. Join the TSA all over again! Please go to http://www.cavetexas.org/ to renew your membership and to read more about the Convention this weekend. Hope to see you there!

[Texascavers] Colorado Bend SP Project
For all of those who didn't make it this weekend to Colorado Bend SP, we had 40+ people, many new or first time cavers from SFA or Sam Houston State. We experienced a healthy 2-4 inches of snow on Saturday, which made for a good snowball fight and some cool pictures. The worst part of the weekend for me - having to dig out tents from the snow and ice. The best part of the weekend - climbing out of the entrance of Circurina with huge snowflakes falling on me as I was getting out - never experienced that in Texas. To watch a healthy plume of steam exploding out of the entrance was memorable. Thankfully Saturday night was spent by all in the warm confines of conference center and watching Descent on DVD. Surveying, biological collections, and good clean (and dirty) caving was done by all, so weekend was a success. Anyone has any pictures they want to share? Re: [Texascavers] Colorado Bend SP Project
Here are some pictures (feel free to use to promote caving, TSA, or Colorado Bend). http://www.garot.com/_April_ColoradoBend/ I really enjoyed the movie The Descent that night, not because it was a good movie, but rather because it was such a horrible movie. Jim Kennedy gave great commentary throughout. I still can't believe the hammer drill. \Tone On 4/9/07, rafal kedzierski rafal...@hotmail.com wrote: For all of those who didn't make it this weekend to Colorado Bend SP, we had 40+ people, many new or first time cavers from SFA or Sam Houston State. [Texascavers] Convention needs
Hello all cavers! Two items, one extremely important: 1. We still need someone to bring the salon equipment from the TSS office in Austin to Albert. Contact Ed Goff and/or Jacqui Thomas to volunteer. This is a terrific way to realign your karma. 2. We can set up recycle containers (55 gallon drums with plastic liners) but we need a volunteer to take the items collected to the appropriate recycler. This cannot happen in Sonora. We need a big city person to volunteer to do this. Contact Jacqui. Ditto on the karma thing. See you soon. [Texascavers] Spring Convention Update
Send off that tax return and celebrate by heading to Albert for TSA Spring Convention! You don't have to pack much-there's water on site and there are two restaurants within 6 miles, and many more if you want to drive a bit farther. In Fredericksburg you'll find both H.E.B. and Walmart. You'll want to bring what you like to drink, but there are wineries galore all along Hwy 290, all with tasting rooms. If you bring your dog, bring the leash. Bags for picking up after will be on site. Dogs won't be able to enjoy the presentations with their owners, as the buildings are dog-free, but Saturday presentations will start at a leisurely 9:00 a.m. and there will be a lunch period long enough to walk the dogs or visit the local eateries. There's a designated greenspace with both trees and a grassy area, perfect for frisbees, dog walks, and enjoying the quiet beauty of the Hill Country. Between Saturday's presentations and dinner there will be a brief TSA meeting. After dinner we will have a salon presentation and awards and the TCMA Auction (contact Kara if you're bringing stuff). Sunday morning events: TCMA fundraiser breakfast and TCMA members' meeting. In the Area: The Old Tunnel Wildlife Area is within 25 miles: The bats aren't back yet, but the trail is open and quite nice. 200 yards from the viewing platform is the Alamo Springs store and caf. If you are interested in wildflower drive/bike rides, check out the Willow City Loop at: http://www.lnstar.com/mall/txtrails/wildflowers/willowcityloop.htm To the east, there's the LBJ Ranch, and if you head west a bit, Wildseed Farms is fun to visit. I just want to give everyone a hearty shove in the direction of the Willow City Loop that Jaqui mentions here. The wildflowers are AWESOME this year, and this is an incredible, easily drivable, and potently beautiful place to see them. I'd give yourself about an hour to drive the whole loop, if I remember correctly. My memory is fogged by the memory of the FLOWERS and buzzing critters and breath-taking hill country scenery. Also, strap yourselves in for the Auction. and don't forget your folding money! There are some really cool things to bid on, especially if you like to get outta dodge and soar with the birdsart! caver stuff! valuable services from your fellow cavers! publication sets! groovy stuff! stuff you want! My last plea met with some real success! Keep it coming! I know you have something fabulous and you haven't told me about it yet! see ya there, Kara - Original Message From: J. Re: Unable to contact texascavers.com
David, someone on your local subnet is sending out spam, my anti-spam setup checks the blacklists for domains and ip ranges that are active and known spammers. You have two choices, you can either complain to your ISP and they can work get off of the blacklists, or you can subscribe using another email, for instance gmail.com I highly recommend gmail, its a great service with no intrusive ads, and you can even use your own client with it if you like, but their webclient is top-notch. Let me know if I can help further. You can now record your old vinyl LP's straight to the computer. Circuit City has a high quality turntable that plugs into the computer's USB port. You simply put on the old album and tell the computer to record. It is $ 180. This seems to be the easiest way to get your old favorite music onto your MP3 players. It is one of the Chinese brands, and has a lot of plastic, but the quality appears much higher than the other choices.
