[Texascavers] National Cave and Karst Management Symposium: deadline for papers coming soon!
Dear Friends, One month from tomorrow, June 1st 2013, is the deadline for papers for the National Cave and Karst Management Symposium (NCKMS). This note is a reminder to complete and send in your papers by that deadline. Do not expect any leeway in that deadline because to address a concern about some past NCKMSs, where the proceedings were not published until well after the meeting, we will have the proceedings ready when you arrive! We have already received several interesting papers and the US National Park Service is planning a big showing to present their new cave and karst inventory and monitoring protocols. A great line-up of workshops and trips are scheduled, and the registration price is a bargain. George Huppert Scholarships are available for those, especially students, needing financial assistance. For more NCKMS details, visit http://nckms2013.businesscatalyst.com/. Please forward this message or post it wherever you think people may be interested. I hope to see you at the National Cave and Karst Research Institute in Carlsbad, New Mexico, for the 20th NCKMS on 4-8 November 2013! George George Veni, Ph.D. Executive Director National Cave and Karst Research Institute 400-1 Cascades Avenue Carlsbad, New Mexico 88220-6215 USA Office: 575-887-5517 Mobile: 210-863-5919 Fax: 575-887-5523 gv...@nckri.orgmailto:gv...@nckri.org www.nckri.orghttp://www.nckri.org
[Texascavers] Government Canyon Karst Project - May 11
Coming up May 11th will be the next karst project trip to Government Canyon SNA in San Antonio. There will be no project activities on Sunday. Please note the schedule change. The project was previously posted as running both days. Camping is still available Friday and Saturday nights. Contact me for details. This will be the last project weekend until the long, hot summer is over and we start again in October. Enter at the main park gate and then take the first right. There is an unlocked gate that will need to be opened and then closed behind you. Continue to the Volunteer/Research Station, where we will meet at 9:00. Marvin Miller (210) 415-5190
[Texascavers] KIWI SINK Dig
So, KIWI SINK Dig this Sunday around 10 of the a.m. We opened the muddy floor last Sunday and are digging in clean (mostly) water washed breakdown now. Still a bit of clean-up to do in the old mud floor but it's really fast and furious digging all around the pit. We loaded out 15 or 16 barrels where usually we get only 7. Questions? Give me a call--410-303-1177. Park at Ernies' across the street!!!

[Texascavers] Interstate 69
I was driving in northeast Houston today, ( which is an area of town a tourist should avoid ), and the old US Hwy 59, is now marked I-69 north of Loop 610, at least to the northern edge of Harris County. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_69 While this is currently totally irrelevant, east Texas cavers will someday ( in 10 years ? ) take I-69 to go caving in Arkansas, Indiana, or to Bustamante, N.L., Mexico. The last time I was south of Houston on Hwy. 59, the signs still read Future I-69 I am not aware of any ongoing highway construction anywhere along this route. I have not been to Laredo in a year, but I bet very soon, you will see signage or new roads related to Interstate 69. David Locklear Ref: http://www.i69texasalliance.com/news.html
