Re: [Texascavers] aerial photography using kites

2009-06-22 Thread Catherine M Winfrey
several of us did aerial photography with the camera attached to model
airplanes a long time ago.
The camera survived the model plane crash, too.

Re: [Texascavers] [TSA Landfund Idea]

2008-07-13 Thread Catherine M Winfrey
There are specific by-laws in the TSA Constitution by-laws defining the
purpose, management and accepted use of the TSA Landfund.

Perhaps your grotto could sponser Gustavo?
You could bring it up at a meeting and see how well the suggestion is
received.

Perhaps your grotto could sponsor Gustavo for one of the TSA awards...
maybe he would be a suitable recipient of the Chuck Steuhm award.

If Gustavo is a member of the NSS, perhaps he could apply for one of their
grants.

These other suggestions don't involve using the TSA's Landfund,
the actual purpose of which is to acrue funds for acquisition of an annual
site where the annual Texas Cavers' Reunion can be held.

I admire the TSA for deciding to participate in cave acquisition,
that's certainly a noble and fairly on-track use of the TSA Landfund,
but even that is technically not what it was set aside for.

Re: [Texascavers] TSA Land Fund question

2008-06-10 Thread Catherine M Winfrey

David
The LAND FUND was started with the original $500 honorarium granted the
TSA for hosting the '94 NSS convention.
It took the TSA until the TCR General meeting of 1995 to vote to approve a
change in the by-laws to provide the mechanism of the 3-member Board of
Directors for the Land Fund.
It's been growing and managed by the 3-member board since then.

I recall the Chair of the TSA holds one seat, the other two seats are
staggered over relatively long terms: continuity on the board in order to
maintain institutional memory was a high priority when we desgined it.
(so much the TSA does is forgotten... case in point)

RE: [Texascavers] RE: The TSA Needs Your Thoughts: TSA Land Fund Dispensation

2008-05-29 Thread Catherine M Winfrey
Technically speaking, Texas Cavers' Reunion is not a TSA function.
The TCR is presented & hosted each year by the volunteers who call it the
Texas Cavers Reunion.

All formal and informal Texas caving organizations--- TSS TCMA TCC AMCS
are always invited to attend, and they may make use of the opportunity
presented by the high attendance to hold various board or membership
meetings.

Forcing all folks attending TCR to contribute to the TSA land fund,
although a noble gesture, is a bit like forcing the restaurant where a
grotto meeting is held to collect an extra $5 for everyone attending the
meeting.

Maybe you should charge the $5 against everyone attending the TSA meeting,
which is held at TCR, to enhance the Land Fund.
Or maybe you could consider a $10 surcharge to the TSA dues.
