It is very strange. GIMP should 100% correct soft.

May you try to convert your image by ImageMagick from command line?

BTW, what is the size and resolution of your image?

Some softwares save JPG with strange headers which are not 100% correct. So 
some other softwares, not only Therion, could have problems with them.

Therefor i want to insert a old plan ending jpg. I can't open it. It is always 
grey..

Can you open the terminal and run the command

GetFileInfo image-file-name

While image-file-name is the name of your image file. You need to be in the 
same directory as the image or specify the full path of it.

I have seen bitmaps always rendered in one grey shade in the Loch viewer
(on Windows) when used as landscape overlays. It was a graphics card driver
issue in that case. So it is possible you are seeing a related issue on the
map editor. I found that if I viewed the same Loch model on a different
laptop (or in a virtual machine running on the same laptop) then it
rendered fine. But using the native OS on the laptop directly (I think it
was an ATI graphics chipset) just rendered a plain grey overlap.
