Thanks Martin, I had not figured that one out, might explain some of the
troubles I had from time to time.

I have put together a page that hopefully removes some of the mystery.

ols_over_or_under_an_area

Corrections welcome.

Graham

If you are using a water or sump area symbol that has an opaque background,
then naturally anything under area will be hidden. I forget whether the
default hatched symbols have an opaque background or not. The blue filled
customizations on the wiki are opaque.

I am not sure if Therion's transparency settings can help resolve that,
unless you draw a separate scrap underneath the scrap with the area
water/sump.

It can be a bit tricky, but I can usually get area and point symbols to plot
under/over area water without one completely obscuring the other, but
sometimes it just does not work.

Not sure if the transparency/opacity settings on scraps affect it.

If you have a custom sump/water definition, I imagine it is possible to code
it so that it would always be opaque to any entities drawn below it.

As you mentioned the order of entities in the th2 file can affect it, as can
-place top, -place bottom.

A small rambling here.

_many_points_lines_and_areas

.that suggests other ideas.

Hello Graham,

I was able to get a boulder in a sump to draw by specifying "-clip off" in
the options of the boulder.

Best regards,

Jonny

How do I get to show boulders or debris on the floor of a sump? Whether I
put the debris area before or after the sump area, the rocks remain hidden
by the water. In the end I hand drew some big boulders, after the water,
which now are visible but also appear not to be wet.

This would be a bit of a hack, but have you tried making two scraps using
the same stations, but one holding the lines defining the sump area, and
the others defining the rocks? Call them in a map as follows:

*map rockysump -proj plan*
*sump_scrap*
*
*
*break*
*
*
*rock_scrap*
*endmap rockysump*

This might work for you, although it is certainly extra work.

Best regards,

Jonny

Check, please, if the border defining the area (if you used it) is in correct
order too. You should move the border of area and area togehter.

May you try to use line option: debris or blocks?

i tried with two scraps, one with the water the other with the blocks (or a
block area).
the blocks are above or below the water depending on the order of the scraps in
the map.

not sure this is what you wanted.
