Guten Tag allerseits :–)

I fee EXACTLY like Jan.

I see great potential in promoting TW in more languages – there are many
translations available. If this would be successful we could decide later if
arising needs are best discussed in new groups or on stackexchange.

[tw] Re: [TW5] Hide Tiddler Toolbar items on select tiddlers

2017-09-05 Thread RichardWilliamSmith
Hi Tony,

Don't know if you ever solved this but better late than never if not. I
hope you don't mind but I used it as an example on my new site (I plan to
write a series of tutorials covering stuff like this)
https://www.didaxy.com/selectively-hiding-the-edit-button-on-tiddlers and
the explanation's there along with a "tl;dr"

Basically...

find $:/core/ui/ViewTemplate/title and swap this chunk

<$list
filter="[all[shadows+tiddlers]tag[~$:/tags/ViewToolbar]!has[draft.of]]"
variable="listItem"><$reveal type="nomatch" state=<>
text="hide"><$transclude tiddler=<>/>

for this chunk

<$list filter="[all[current]tag[noedit]]"> <$list
> filter="[all[shadows+tiddlers]tag[$:/tags/ViewToolbar]!has[draft.of]]
> -[[$:/core/ui/Buttons/edit]]" variable="listItem"><$reveal type="nomatch"
> state=<> text="hide"><$transclude
> tiddler=<>/> <$list
> filter="[all[current]!tag[noedit]]"> <$list
> filter="[all[shadows+tiddlers]tag[$:/tags/ViewToolbar]!has[draft.of]]"
> variable="listItem"><$reveal type="nomatch" state=<>
> text="hide"><$transclude tiddler=<>/>
>

And then tag tiddlers "noedit" to hide their edit control. Obviously, make
sure you back up your work first.

The longer instructions explain how I would go about doing this from
scratch. Please let me know if you find a mistake.

Regards,
Richard

That is most of the way, the toggle hides the image (rather than the

Which actually would be fine, except I use the Edit Image in the "locked"
tiddlers to allow edit of its sub-tiddlers.

So using this Hide Button Image I loose these buttons visibility as well.

I have also ensured a checkbox toggle of the noedit tag is available in
"locked" tiddlers, as I am only trying to obscure not disable edit.

This is however a great start and I will go from here unless you know

1) create a tiddler, e.g [[noedit_stylesheet]], tagged with
$:/tags/Stylesheet, containing:

.tc-tagged-noedit .tc-image-edit-button { display:none; }

2) edit any desired tiddler, add the tag "noedit", press "done" (the
checkmark button)

Note: after you add the tag and press done, you won't be able to edit that
tiddler anymore, so you won't be able to remove the tag you just added. To
edit "locked" tiddlers, you will need to disable the stylesheet definition
(by removing the $:/tags/Stylesheet tag from the stylesheet definition
tiddler). Here's a quick checkbox that will toggle the stylesheet tag for
you:

<$checkbox tiddler="noedit_stylesheet" tag="$:/tags/Stylesheet"> toggle
"noedit"

Folks,

I just want to report I am using IIS WebDav Implementation to access a TW5
and whilst it seems to work most of the time the tab it was in has
mysteriously disappeared from firefox and I cant return to the wiki (even

When I next have time to reproduce the problem which sounds related to the

[tw] Re: Can we have some threads in GERMAN?

2017-09-05 Thread TonyM
We all speak many languages and variations including technical ones, pseudo
codes, jargon not to mention the common international languages. I have no
doubt that language specific groups should be encouraged so new ideas are
free flowing in different tongues. The most powerful networks consist of
interconnected clusters with sufficient communications between each
cluster. It is perhaps clear that English may be the glue given TW's
history, or tiddlywikis "lingua franca" however it is also clear this is
only the beginning.

I would encourage the interchange of key terms found in different languages
when that term can be defined (at length if necessary) and if it serves to
capture a useful conceptual idea.

There is no doubt that German for one example has some wonderful compound
words or hard to translate words that are very useful. Once you share the
definition (via translation) we can use that word ourselves and need not
translate, we simply use the word.

In such a loose network however we may need to have a shared glossary.

I for one would love to talk systems and ecological language (in English)
speaking with some tiddlywiki enthusiasts.

Love the conversations, team.

There are so many configuration settings in Apache, there must be a way to

I've tested using Firefox and put screenshots up at
https://wiki.suntrap.ca/webdav/davsaver.html (for now). Lighttpd does not
exhibit this issue but it also doesn't send the If-Match: header on then
2nd PUT request (the one that fails with Apache and maybe IIS).

I see no border using Eric's code. I checked the css and looked in
DevTools inspector. Apart from TW's row styling being applied to the
wikitext version, they're identical with respect to borders.

[tw] Re: Can we have some threads in GERMAN?

2017-09-05 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
In practice I think getting German speakers to author from their first
language could be a revelation. That doesn't mean we can't approximate it
in English later. Its more about letting Germans THINK & ARTICULATE in
German about TiddlyWiki. German is a very unusual language. Its immensely
creative.

2017-09-05 Thread Vayu Asura
Found Eric's solution
here https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/tiddlywiki/UC10tciyr1U

I have no idea how it works save for the most abstract concepts. The funny
thing about its implication is:

when invoked with it keeps the outermost
border of the table
and when invoked like

@@.borderless

@@

removes the outer border as well.

Weird.

[tw] Home Sweet Home ... are TiddlyWikiDev & TiddlyWikiDocs worth keeping?

2017-09-05 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
After a while chickens land ...

As far as i can see THIS group covers EVERYTHING TiddlyWiki.

The groups *TiddlyWikiDocs & TiddlyWikiDev seem very peripheral. Are they
NEEDED?*

The flipside is that often here dicussion is HIGHLY TECHNICAL
conversations that some visitor looking to be able to get a bit of software
to be able to write a memo to grandma would find far too much.

I have a suggestion.

1 - DUMP TiddlyWikiDocs & TiddlyWikiDev

2 - START a TiddlyWikiNewbie that contains ONLY info for beginners

In any case the current situation with the groups is more platitude than
reality. HERE is the hub. Any OTHER group should be the HUB INTRO. IMO. Get
rid of redundancy.

Best wishes

In the table it should be:

|no-border|k
|myfield|myvalue|

Then, I found I needed this for the class. YMMV:

.no-border th, .no-border td, .no-border tr, table.no-border {
border: none  ;
}

[tw] Make a borderless table

2017-09-05 Thread Vayu Asura
I want a specific table to be bordeless

The syntax for wiki tables allows that style string in the top.

However I couldn't either find a proper style in the default stylesheet to
get the invisible border or make my own:

tagged `$:/tags/Stylesheet`

.no-border {
border: 0px;
}

and the table I want to make borderless in another tiddler:

|.no-border|k
|myfield|myvalue|

Dev-tools show

myfieldmyvalue

But the border still renders. What am I doing wrong?

Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] WebDav Saver Observations.

2017-09-05 Thread Lost Admin
Minimal, and reliable test case:

1) Set-up a WebDAV server on Apache (follow the Apache instructions,
nothing special).

2) Put a TiddlyWiki on it. Also nothing special, just the standard
empty.html from TiddlyWiki.com.

3) Edit a Tiddler and save it (make sure it saves to the WebDAV server.

4) Wait for the save to finish.

5) Make another edit (of the same tiddler if you want)

6) Save again.

7) The error pops up.

In Firefox the developer tools can be used to see what is passing on the
network. Pay close attention to the ETAG header and it's value (and when it
doesn't show up). In theory you could do this with Chrome too, but when I
try the Chrome developer tools keep hanging so I can't see the headers on
each step.

Judging by what is going on in the IIS thread, I think IIS has the same
issue.

On my Lighttpd server, I don't have this issue.

Yes, that is sort of the problem. the mechanism to prevent the editing
conflicts is handled by the ETAG header. But, when you save changes (HTTP
PUT), you don't get a new ETAG with the response from Apache. However, the
ETAG changes whenever the file changes. At least, I *think* that is what is
going on.

TiddlyWiki has the ability to encrypt the TiddlyWiki. I don't use it
often but I do use it on one private Wiki that is accessible over the
Internet. I would like to do this on NoteSelf but when I try, it just
ignores the encryption setting/flag and continues without encrypting
 anything.

I've setup CouchDB (the back-end tool used by NoteSelf) and have
NoteSelf working (tested and confirmed). But the encryption doesn't happen
and I never get prompted for the decryption password. I've looked into the
CouchDB back-end to confirm the content isn't encrypted.

Is it possible at this stage to use client-side encryption (what TW5
does) with NoteSelf? If so, some pointers?

Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] WebDav Saver Observations.

2017-09-05 Thread Lost Admin
I was coming to the same conclusion, except it appears that IIS has the
same problem (judging by what was going on in the IIS WebDAV setup video
thread).

Also, if I read the technical docs on Etag, the PUT shouldn't send a new
Etag as there is no content in the response (the Etag is tied to the reply
content).

It looks like the HEAD call does include an Etag, so conceivably issuing a
HEAD after confirming the PUT succeeded would get the new Etag.
Unfortunately, that would introduce a race condition if there are multiple
people editing the file.

Does the TiddlyWiki WebDAV saver support anything other than Etag? While it
appears Etag is the default, I ran across some cryptic comments about
disabling Etag and adding a last-changed timestamp. Possibly the PUT would
include the timestamp. Unfortunately, this is not the default for Apache
and would require clear documentation on our part to explain to people how
to set-up their WebDAV servers (and significantly reduces the likelihood
that WebDAV supporting cloud providers will work properly).

I've been looking but haven't (yet) figured out how to tell Apache to
include the Etag header in the PUT response header.

NOTE: to those who have no idea what I was talking about above, Arlen and I
are digging into the finer points of the HTTP protocol and WebDAV protocol
to see if we can fix an issue that's been bugging us (well, at least me).

Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] [NoteSelf] How do I encrypt a NoteSelf wiki?

2017-09-05 Thread Lost Admin
I believe someone created a per-tiddler encryption add-on/module but I
can't find it now. I have never tested it.

The built-in encryption with TiddlyWiki (that prompts for a password when
you load the wiki) does not work with NoteSelf, I've tested it. I also
verified with my tests that the back-end (couchdb) has the individual
tiddlers in clear text.

Re: [tw] Re: [TW5] WebDav Saver Observations.

2017-09-05 Thread Arlen Beiler
It is becoming pretty clear that for some reason the Etag is not being set
in the response header, nor anything else equivalent to it. Per our
discussion privately, it does seem that this is an Apache issue, however I
have not been able to look into it further.

A couple of articles which touch on this:

   pain-of-etags-mod_deflate-apache-2-4-and-tomcat-7/

At some point I will test it on one of my servers and see if I can get it
working. However, it is obvious that this is the problem. One option would
be to make a second head request if the 204 response does not contain an
Etag, but I guess that wouldn't be atomic either.

Isn't there a way to encrypt individual tiddlers? The mechanism used to
load tiddlers from CouchDB is unrelated to the encryption mechanism in

Excellent. Not least the icon. This makes what I'm already using--the great
initial RichardWS version--into an even better version.

I hadn't really grasped the caveats on where it can't work. I just got
confused. Hats off to you so I don't have to encounter that confusion.

[tw] Re: Done Close and Cancel Close toolbar options

2017-09-05 Thread TonyM
Folks,

Here is my steps to answering my own question. On the Cancel Close Button,
see below for the last piece of the Puzzle I do not have.

   - Clone $:/core/ui/Buttons/cancel
  - Rename to $:/core/ui/Buttons/cancelclose
   - Clone $:/language/Buttons/Cancel/Hint to
   $:/language/Buttons/CancelClose/Hint
  - change content to "Discard and close this tiddler"
   - Clone $:/language/Buttons/Cancel/Caption to
   $:/language/Buttons/CancelClose/Caption
  - change content to "cancel/close"
   - Edit $:/core/ui/Buttons/cancelclose
  - Rename the Cancel/hint and Cancel/Caption to CancelClose/hint and
  CancelClose/Caption respectively
  - Place {{$:/core/images/close-button}} after 1st
  {{$:/core/images/cancel-button}}
 - Looks OK especially when using ControlPanel > Settings > Toolbar
Button Style > Boxed but you could replace with another button Icon
  - add <$action-sendmessage $message="tm-close-tiddler"/> before last

This "Works" on the Draft Of Tiddler name but the original tiddler remains
open, how do I also Close the Original tiddler?

I can publish this as a plugin (with better Icons) once working, and if not
already available but It would be a nice option in the "Core" with little
effort.

Thanks in advance

Tony
