[tw] Re: New mGSD Feature: Meetings!

2012-03-27 Thread David Szego
Hi Andre, sorry for the late reply. I will post a minimal file in the next
couple of days.
I've experienced problems with the theme, when loading the file for the
first time. After clicking to set the theme, it seems to stick. I think
it's something to do with cookies even though I've hardcoded the default
theme in a number of places! Puzzling, and still working on it.
I don't run IE, so I can't comment... but I do recall not getting anywhere
with mGSD in general under IE, the one time I tried it. (PortableApps.com
may be a great help to you if you're tied in...)
If you let me know the particular error, I'll address it.

Thanks for the kind words!
David.

[tw] Re: New mGSD Feature: Meetings!

2012-02-22 Thread David Szego
One more very useful update to help plan and manage your meetings in mGSD:
*AgendaItems *can now be added to multiple meetings, and tagged as
discussed individually at each meeting.

This is very handy in real-life use, where you need to revisit an item in
subsequent meetings, and keep track of where it was discussed or missed.

This also adds two very powerful and useful tagging functions to
*mgtdListEnhanced
*and elsewhere:

   - delist [[TiddlerToRemoveFromList]] Prompt lets you click an [X]
button to remove a Tiddler from the mgtdListEnhanced without deleting the
   Tiddler.
  - The button created has a hover comment Prompt
TiddlerToRemoveFromList from parent.tiddler.title, i.e. Uninvite Joe
Blow
  from Example Meeting
  - This un-tags TiddlerToRemoveFromList with the name of the Tiddler
where this function is called from (opposite of the addButtonTags
  function in *mgtdListEnhanced*)
  - toggleTagPrefix TagPrefix TiddlerToTag to tag / untag specified
   TiddlerToTag with [[TagPrefixparent.tiddler.title]] i.e.
   Discussed@MeetingName

Try it for yourself at http://thinkcreatesolve.biz/mGSDEnhancements.html
and post your feedback!

Cheers,
David Szego

[tw] Re: New mGSD Feature: Meetings!

2012-02-15 Thread David Szego
Another small update - I've changed the + buttons in the Attendees
+ and Agenda Item + lists to ⊕ (circled-plus).

What does this mean? Now you can add an existing Tiddler to the Agenda
Items or Attendees list rather than being forced to have a new Tiddler
created.

Behind the scenes, if the title you enter matches an existing Tiddler,
it gets tagged according to the mgtdListEnhanced's
addButtonTags:'Whatever' parameter.
If it doesn't exist, it is created and then tagged.

This gives mgtdListEnhanced a new, flexible feature of adding existing
Tiddlers to any list!

I hope you'll try it for yourself and send me your feedback!

http://thinkcreatesolve.biz/mGSDMeetingEnhancements.html

Note, there is a small issue I can't figure out - how to refresh the
Dashboard. Currently (no matter what I try!) after you add an item,
you still have to Jump (in the toolbar) to the Dashboard to refresh
it and make the item show up. Any hints?

Regards,
David Szego

2012-02-14 Thread David Szego
Hi all,

I've made some major updates to my mGSD Meeting Enhancements
including:

*Added ability to properly track attendance and discussion points,
and remove attendees or agenda items
*Nicer Dashboard and Title Button layouts
*Moved as much code as possible away from stock mGSD Tiddlers (for
mGSD update compatibility)
*Repackaged the whole thing as a Plugin Tiddler for easy install

I'm using both the Meetings and Project Status Updates features daily,
to oversee 15 major IT projects involving 5-10 vendors... it's an
excellent tool and I hope you'll try it for yourself!

David, this looks great. I like the layout etc. I have a critical
question though:

What happens when original mGSD author releases a new update to mGSD?
Will your stuff be overwritten? I ask because my own integrated
tweakings have almost become overbearingly difficult to manually reset
and update etc when new updates come.

Thank you for sharing!

Once you get to a certain point in customizing TW, it is important to put
some effort into setting up your own personal template TWs, with all the
tiddlers enabling theming and functionality in a master separate from the
one(s) containing content.

You then end up with a daisy-chain of cascading source master TW's -
third-party TWs kept as is, your own personal template TW's containing
everything but content (which can pull from one or more of the former - in
your case mGSD as well as Davids), then your actual production TWs
containing content, which can pull all updates from their respective
templates.

See the OT end-bits of this thread for details on how *I* do this, with
pointers to an older thread containing more.
https://groups.google.com/d/msg/tiddlywiki/oHfHVUwu4YA/Az_Yv1yZxE0J

Note that I'm sure actual programmers working in TW have more clever and
robust ways to ensure the same goals, these are methods I just worked out
on my own as a mere mortal end user. In the beginning, keeping detailed
work journal notes will help you remember what you've done in the past,
version-control and merge/diff tools can be useful for comparing TWs if you
have to reverse-engineer changes in in the past.

The goal IMO should be an update process so automated you can go back after
years of not touching things and get everything updated in sync without
having to do more than briefly scan your documentation.

2012-02-04 Thread David Szego
Kev - clicking save changes on the toolbar will now save a copy
locally, I properly added Eric Shulman's excellent SaveFromWebPlugin
backend to my server.
This is the easiest way to get your own copy of the full mGSD TW.

Realms are useful as a top level of your hierarchy -
pre(Can I use pre here?)

REALMS
+--Areas
   +--Projects

Programming
  +Websites
  | +--Tiddlywiki Plugin 1
  | +--Client Web Site
  +-iPhone
 +--App 1
 +--App 2
Personal
  +Physical
  | +-Swap 20lbs fat for 20lbs
muscle
  +Spiritual
  | +-Daily Meditations

Family
  +---AroundTheHouse
  |+---Finish the basement
  +--Kids
 +-Baseball Team Tournament
Work
etc.etc.
/pre

Then when you look at all your projects on a Dashboard, you can click
on/off the Realms you want (or don't want) to see. Check out the
Project Dashboard By Area Tiddler for a great overview, once you've
set yourself up in Realms and Areas.

Glad you like it! Thanks for your kind words!
And the lot of work is all Simon Baird's - I just added the
Meetings, and tweaked the layout a bit!

You are absolutely right, it needs to (and will) be split out into a
