[tw] Re: tbGTD vs tGSD, and giewiki (X-posted from Tiddlywiki-GTD)

2014-01-08 Thread Leo Staley
Just spent a while trying to make it work, and I could not get the
PreviewPlugin to work on either tbGTD or tGSD, despite following the same
instructions which got it working on giewiki and a blank TWC.

if I could get some advisement on that, I'd be overjoyed.

On Wednesday, January 8, 2014 3:35:03 AM UTC-7, Leo Staley wrote:

(cross posted this from TiddlyWiki-GTD because there isnt' much activity
there, and thought there would be a lot of overlap.)

 I'll cut to the chase.

I want to use giewiki because of the auto-save while typing and ability to
have it work seamlessly in the cloud, even on a computer with spotty
 connection.

I want to use tbGTD because of the amazing pre-set tags, visual layout,
GTD categories, the Desk, and the easy, categorizable tagging. The fact
that you have to cancel out of editing, go tag, and then return to editing
is a huge obstacle to me for tbGTD, but besides that, it seems UTTERLY
 perfect for me.

I want to use tGSD because of the cool details menu thing that comes up
when you create a new action, project, etc. (Also because of the book
library features and notes functionality, but those, less)

(I also want to use the PreviewPlugin, but so far, have only been able to
get it to work on a simple new empty Tiddly. Does anybody know if it'll
 work on any of those?)

So my main questions: What is tGSD* doing *when it gives you all of those
detail tagging things before even editing, and could it be replicated in
tbGTD? Could it be replicated in giewiki? How do I customize what things
show up in it? I'm currently investigating how to do tbGTD in giewiki, but
this is hard, because I'm not a programmer.

[tw] Re: tbGTD, best way to use it?

2014-01-07 Thread Leo Staley
I probably should have mentioned, since it may be a factor, that the main
features of tbGTD I appreciate are

The Desk,
the left sidebar,
the x-plore button,
the x-tag (or, preferably, tagsearch),
all of the pre-built in GTD tags and categories (etc),
The tabs to open tiddlers instead of all vertically on the same page,
And basically every other feature I'm discovering, like the ability to sort
in so many different ways tiddlers that are listed somewhere by tag, or
structure, etc.

The main feature I love about tGSD is
The tagging dashboard thingy that shows up when you create a new item. This
is much better than tbGTD's way of doing it, where you have to click done,
so you can add your tags- in tbGTD, you can't start tagging the new action
or item until you've clicked out of edit, and then you have to go back in.

Also, some of the additional tags and things that it has, like Book
Library, project progress percentage, subproject,

The main thing about giewiki that I love is
the auto-save while typing,
the Google-based cloud functionality,
Revision history,
The ability to log in with my Google account, and have select parts of the
site available to other people who can log in with their Google accounts.
The pages feature.

But anyway, I'd love to get tbGTD in even without that modification. The
main reason I want to use giewiki is because of the autosaving while
typing, and the fact that I can use it anywhere i have internet access.

required core of FE2 (put it at 2.1, seems to work), removed some settings

Hi FractalStar,

Your welcome ...I quite enjoyed being able to create tbGTD, too ;-)

What do you mean with in-basket? Would that be the Inbox? If that is so,
I suggest you use the *#queued* tag and use that as your backlog of things
that you will do soon, yet not *#next*.

As for a tutorial video, I never got to make one so far and to be honest, I

myself right now.

Here's why: I want to be able to access my tasks both on my machine and on

This proves a bit difficult, at least with the current tbGTD layout, not to
mention bandwidth ...so I am using trello.com for now, producteev.com also
is also fantastic. I hear some folks are even happy with google tasks.

Anyhow, I sure know the advantages of TiddlyWiki... which is to not only
manage some tasks but to also manage all the information around those in an
efficient manner... and to be able to do fancy stuff with all that data.

If there is some crucial information that you would like to see in the help

Hi David Szego,

Tobias, are you implying you've abandoned your own tbGTD, for
 Trello/Producteev?

Not, far from it ...for example, if I were to start a professional project
/ to work in a (new) professional environment, I would sure use / fall back
to TW / tbGTD because that gives me way more flexibility that just task
management.

But when it comes to GTD in general - personal stuff that I want at hand
wherever I am, even on the phone - then I'm afraid that I don't find TW to
be cloud-ready yet.

With a rock solid server side and a mobile app that can sync and strip down
on bandwidth this may change... but I'm not sure when that will happen.

TWMobile, I believe, already does work with dropbox, so that might actually
be an option with the task at hand being... make a port for / fork of tbGTD
and get it to work in a mobile environment, i.e. bringing both, the power
of TiddlyWiki and that of a well designed GTD app into the mobile world,
and not just the latter... but that's a hard nut to crack for a one man
band. ;-)

Cheers, Tobias.

I use TiddlyWiki every hour at work (a custom GTD I have evolved over time)
and often at home on my laptop(s). Via Drop box it is accessible on every
device I own. Recently it has become viable on my Android Tablet in FireFox
but not practical on my iPhone 3GS yet.

My master TiddlyWiki has a lot in it and I am currently developing a side
tiddlywiki with import export tools for day to day small device
interaction. Perhaps iPhone use will soon be viable with this.

To me what ever you use you need clarity in what goes where and why. The
idea of a self developed tool sitting on top of a open platform such as
tiddlywiki is critical.

Best wishes
TonyM

Better late than never - Congratulations with this wonderful TW-
design.
I'm totally in awe when navigating your GTD. It's just beautiful!!

I want to translate it into Danish - and I'm a little confused by all
the relations that are set up from the start.

Is there a best way of doing it - working from the middle and out - or
the opposite?

Maybe I should get your German version to see where to translate tags
etc?

Great work Tobias!! - Very impressive layout and very focused at gtd -
I really like the combination of reminders and the calendar +
weeknumbers - it almost reads ones mind :-) -
Just add speechcommands and you'll be able to work, if you talk while
you sleep.. (I do..)

Tobias,

Can the Calendar be synced with an online calendar like Google? Just
curious, because then I could also sync with a PDA.

 Hi Tobias,
May I suggest that you either allow the user to set a (past/future)
reminders horizon (with a warning when the value is high enough to
trigger an unresponsive script message) or set a maximum of 7 days
 lead-time (which I personally prefer)?

I think you are being generous with 14 days in the past and 7 into the
 future.

To me, ideally, in a GTD environment, once the reminder has fallen
due, it should be placed in a tiddler containing tasks done as
 appropriate or reset if necessary.

BTW I really like the look and idea of tbGTD.

Now, think about what that would do if weekly repetitive reminders are

so that such a behaviour is not possible by default, meaning... any
repetitive task will have a standard leadtime applied to it ...while
also suppressing that rather useless message of Couldn't find a match
for @@color(red):August 17th@@ in the next 14 days.. I changed the
timeframe anyways, so that reminders will only show up for at most 14
days into the past and 7 into the future (as for the desk). It looks
like reminders deserve much more attention, in terms of their own
category etc... I will look into that.

Outstanding, Tobias!

I just took a quick peek and poked around.
I must say quite clean and beautiful with the dark charcoal slate
layout. Makes my setup look dowdy.
I like your use of symbol identifiers to distinguish different
organizing categories and the use of sliders and drop downs in the
main and top menus.
Minor cosmetic: the backstage label just left of 'save' says
undefined.

Thank you for the inspiration and new toy to play with. :-)

Best,
tony
