Re: [TMIC] RE: Soc. Security/ SSDI
Alton, None of us can or will kick you across the parking lot. Were you able keep you health insurance? Our health insurance came from my employer (hubby is self employed.) Most of my SSDI will go toward our health costs beginning June 06 when I can no longer participate through COBRA. Our company didn't provide it for retirees so I was planning to work forever. So, TM gave me early retirement at 53! Patti - Michigan - Superbowl XL Alton Ryder [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I made the mistake of NOT applying for SSDI. Born in 1934, I had not quite reached 63 when I was disabled. I had already retired from my career with continuing good health insurance and had a job in a hobby shop. I was planning to start drawing my Social Security a year later. I reasoned that there was little to be gained with SSDI. I was WRONG. Drawing SS at 64 meant 70% benefits for the rest of my life and Betty's. SSDI would have given me full SS benefits. As an engineering manager, I had been well paid. That 30% for life was BIG bucks. I will NEVER go without it again.Cheryl in Easthampton,Mass. _Yahoo! Mail_ (http://us.rd.yahoo.com/mail_us/taglines/virusmail/*http://mail.yahoo.com) - Helps protect you from nasty viruses. Hi Cheryl, I too have the banding around my torso and it gets unbearable whenever something is wrong with me. A while ago, I tried to go off of baclofen too, and wound up like you, in extreme discomfort. Now, my doc prescribes me some valium which works much better, but I only take it when the tightness gets too much to bear. Maybe your doc will do the same for you. I only have 5mg. pills and take 1/2 at a time so they don't knock me out. I like to stay in control... Best of everything to you, Jude Hi Patti, Yes, I take the baclofen regularly and then add the valium when the banding gets so tight I can't stand it. Usually at night before bed so I can sleep a bit better and like with my broken legs, I've been taking it every day, a couple of times a day. I have to admit, that since I have the additional pain with my legs, I have been taking more baclofen than usual. I try to alternate a valium with a baclofen and tend to do that throughout the night. I am also taking a small dose of morphine when the pain gets real bad. But it tends to make me sleepy so I don't use it a lot. I bite it into halves and quarters and take it like that so I don't get too messed up. My body can tolerate a lot of medication at one time. Things that I do, as far as mixing medications, a lot of other people couldn't do. I do try to use my head and sometimes, if I'm real sick, I will even keep a log of what I have taken and what time...that way I won't overdose on something. I wouldn't recommend anyone else to play with their medications the way I do unless they really know their own body and know something about whatever it is they are taking. Best of everything to you, Peace, Jude

I've been on Medicare for the last few years, so they don't seriously kick in until I hit the out-of-pocket limit; last year was the first year I didn't hit the limit. RE: [TMIC] Shots and cramps
Hi Mike in Marysville. I am wondering why you go off the baclofen? I suffer from cramps, really bad ones in my calfs and on my right side. the neuro increased my baclofen and neurontin, so that I'm taking another dose of each at night before bed. I don't take the baclofen at lunch, it makes me too tired, but it works great at night. I also think that it helps with my restlessness at night. I sleep better now.Another reason could be potassium. Low potassium will cause muscle cramps too.Take care, Deb C. in gloomy rainy Mich.--- On Thu 02/02, Mike Jill Hammond [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:From: Mike Jill Hammond [mailto: [EMAIL PROTECTED]To: tmic-list@eskimo.comDate: Thu, 02 Feb 2006 19:49:39 -0800Subject: [TMIC] Shots and cramps Well, it has been a while since I have posted anything. I do lurk and read a lot of the postings. I have to weigh in on one subject and ask a question aboput something totally different. First, while I did not have a flu shot before I came down with TM, I had just recently completed a Hepatitis B series. At that time the doctor told me that this may have also been a possibility. I am not sure what it was, but after a lot of reading about injections of different types, and especially the contents of a flu shot, I thought that I would rather get the flu than the flu shot. The one flu shot I did get several years before TM made me sick. My question concerns cramps. I have been reading some of the postings and still have questions. For some time now I have been having cramps in my feet, mostly at night. The cramps usually are in the ball of the feet. These cramps range from annoying, to feeling like someone dropped an anvil on my foot. At times, the only relief I get is by putting pressure in the opposite direction from the way the cramp seems to want to pull the feet muscles. Has anyone else experienced something like this, and if so, what have you done for it. I still have cramps in various locations in my body and when they get too bad for me I take baclofen for 3 to 5 days and they subside. Sometimes I can go a month or more without taking baclofen and sometimes it may be several times in a month. Sometime back I posted a question asking if anyone used quinine water to help with cramps and I did not receive any feedback. I feel that it does help a little. Mary Eden Finally somebody in my corner! Thank you. You know I have to root for my home team - this is the best they've done in years.
