I love your way of explaining what we all have experiencing.reading you
makes it sound like we've had fun trying to find what works for us and really,
that's the way we should look at it..I could just see that mother centipede
putting shoes on each foot, then having to change to another shoe!!

Thanks for being you!!

G'day Barb and everyone,

Over the last nearly 8 years, I've been like you.  I've purchased more pairs of
shoes than a mother of growing centipedes could possibly need, more clothes
that just hurt too much (yep, certainly jeans).

I've found with the sheets that as long as they are warm, as long as they have
no wrinkles and as long as I don't move, I don't have too much pain or too many
spasms :)).  Another thing is that sleeping on my own is an absolute essential
now for me. A strange little thing I've found lately that helps is having a
pillow over my feet.  I have no idea why.

Of course Barb, I reckon the brownies help a lot with the sleeping.

I've found that I have to have mule type shoes, socks worn inside out, no
dresses, no stockings, no jeans.  T-shirt material or jersey is the easiest to
wear. Wouldn't you just like Trinny and Susannah try and make us look like a
million dollars with our restrictions?

gentle hugs to all

I think that this is something that most of us suffer from at some point
during our TM lives, skin sensitivity against fabric, and it's the worst
when we are trying to get some much needed sleep.

I have purchased so many sets of sheets and blankets over my TM years (T
8-10, 6/1/99), and I have had this sensitivity for most of that time. It
started as sensitivity and is so often PAIN. I've gone from egyptian cotton
very good quality flannel, jersey (like T-shirt material) and all sorts of
thread counts of cotton. In sheets, I think that most of the time, my most
comfortable sheet happens to be the jersey. I'm not saying that I can
always have my legs against them, because I cannot, I lay on my back many
nights with my knees bent so nothing touches my legs. Blankets are much
worse, so you need to get the most comfortable sheet you can near your skin.
If you have any old pajama bottoms, those are also some of the most
comfortable, or I wear the short ones.

I've bought some microfiber plush pants this year from OldNavy.com and they
have been warm on my legs and haven't irritated them. I am very much
looking forward to warmer weather when I can wear short pants all the time
and not being uncomfortable.

I love summer as I can wear shorts and don't have anything touching my legs !! I can not take ANYTHING touching my feet, no "soft socks" shoes even my feet resting on the foot pegs on my wheel chair hurts.. the stinging inmy feet somedays so unbearable but have learen to just cope and deal with it. It is a comfort to have my extended TM family and know that I am not the only one who goes thru this everyday,

I am so amazed that in this we are all so similar! Each time I read your
letters it is like I've written them myself.

Another one is that even tho I can't feel anything on the bottoms of my feet
if I step on something it shoots a spasm of pain right up my leg. I also
have to watch my feet to see where they are. I can walk without doing that
but only in my house. I step out on the porch and my eyes go right down to
my feet. Jeanne

It has only just occurred to me that sleeping on my back is the only way I have
slept now for years. Since the day of the attack I haven't been able to sleep
any other way, in the beginning, I couldn't move at all from that position, I
can now at least move my legs into a more comfy position. I can't sleep with
them bent up though Barb, that causes huge spasms.

Everything hurts, no matter what but it's trying to minimize the pain is the
answer isn't it? I know that when you are new to this crap it's so hard to
realise the things that you suddenly have to pay attention to. Not only what
you wear but where you are walking, avoiding anything that will brush on you.
Shopping is a nightmare when someone brushes past etc.

Since I was born being unconventional a lot of things came easily for me. If
you were not born that way, it's time to change and not give an obese rodent's
derriere what anyone else thinks. Find what works for you and don't worry about
what the normal people are doing.

I think I've just about got my life into a reasonable degree of comfort but
sometimes it just changes again.

It's just amazing! It's definately a game of trial and error, that's for sure.
Life is so much fun when you have TM.

The majority of my sensitivity is in the evening and during the night. There
are times when I cannot even stand skin to skin contact. That's why I sleep on
my back with my knees bent many nights.

  Take care everyone!

So does this mean you think that PT is meaningless? Why do my legs feel
better after a work out than when I get up from my chair after 2 hours of
answering e-mail, paying the bills, throwing out all the junk mail and
making doctor appointments. Do you honestly feel that it's a waste of
time??? Seriously my friend, I am interested in your opinion in whether PT
is worth the effort.
I thought you once said that exercise was very important for us??

Look, some folks gain, some lose with PT. Sometimes the effort results in a
net loss. Stretching to keep limber, maybe. Workouts? No way. It might be
different if I had access to a heated pool, but I don't so I won't sweat it.
It works for you, that's great, but everyone has a different experience with
