RE: [TMIC] Medical Marijuana

2010-01-14 Thread Lori Biehler
I did smoke it and know of others that stated that was the only way to get the
pain relief, no clue why. I sure do wish the pharmaceutical companies would
research what chemicals in the plant help us and the best way to deliver those
chemicals. It is not the THC that relieves pain, it just helps you not to care
you are in pain. It may help in combination with another chemical but I don’t
know anyone that took marinol that had the pain relief that those of us that
smoked had. It took the neurological pain away, all of it and it was wonderful.

Marinol is really great for those on chemo that need to eat, if they can keep
down a pill. It works really well increasing ones appetite.

What I was saying is that the MJ helps me sleep, but doesn't touch my pain. At
least not at the amount I use it or in the way I do. Then, I am assuming that
the ones who get relief are doing so by smoking.

Seems that those who smoke it get a lot of pain relief. Do you get pain relief
with the sleepy effects? Maybe I just finally am just so relaxed that am able
to sleep, and it generally takes about 45 minutes or more for the effect to
take place.

[TMIC] Gabapentin ??

2010-01-14 Thread CANDIS KALLEY
I started a week ago on Gabapentin 300 mg 1X daily but I take approx. 1/2 in
the am mixed with my yogart and the other half in applesauce at night. The
Gabapentin does help with some of the nerve pain - when I'm awake meaning that
it does make me sleep much more - 4 to 12 hours at a time. I was just getting
to the point of only sleeping 8 to 10 hours at night with a 2 to 4 hour nap. I
also find that I'm dreaming as I'm waking up - something that I haven't done in
the last 4 years since TM hit.
My neuro told me to take 1 capsule the first week, 2 the next week, then 3 from
there on. I called today and told the nurse that because it was making me so
tired that I was going to stay on the 1 capsule per day until my body adjusts
because I was sleeping way too much and not getting anything else done. I know
this will happen because each time I've added a med that has a sleepiness,
fatigue effect, within a month or so my body adjusts and I go back to my
normal sleep pattern.

I believe that I have seen others here thattake Gabapenin and wonder if they
have had the same effects?

Re: [TMIC] Gabapentin ??

2010-01-14 Thread Laurie Zissimos

I used to have really strange dreams when I was on Gabapentin. I was on it
for 2 years then my neur switched me to Lyrica for which there is no generic.
Two years later, my neuro has now switched me to Topomax to try to help control
the weight gain from the Gabapentin and Lyrica. Good Luck. Laurie from
Baltimore.

Yes, I open the capsule - sometimes it takes awhile but I finally get it.  I've
found that if I twist the capsule it is easier BUT I have to have the capsule
over whatever I'm putting it in.

I have to cut or open all of my meds because I have an ileostomy ( I had to
have all my colon removed due to ulcerated colitist over 35 years ago) and due
to that pills and capsules don't desolve but go through me within an hour or so
therefore doing nothing.

I did read in the phamplet that openin and mixing with soft foods was
acceptable but I also remember my mother doing that for my step-father after
his stroke because he couldn't swallow anything except soft foods.
