[TMIC] OT bed question
Hi Friends, I'm sorry I haven't been on as much as I'd like. I'm trying to figure out my life now which is very different, and feel a bit lost. I was wondering if anyone could advise me. I need to buy a new bed as mine is caving in and hurting my back. I can't get out to bed shop, but I've heard that Sealy Posturepedic makes the best mattress, and someone on tv recommended medium hard? I'd like to hear your opinions. Thanks, Kevin

Re: [TMIC] OT bed question
Kevin, I wish the best for you, truly, I do. We have a mattress that has a four inch foam topper that was added and it is the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. When we go on a trip, I really suffer from the mattresses because they are so hard. TMer's can probably relate to that. I do think it is an individual thing, tho. Good luck in finding one that works for you. It is very, very important because a good rest is imperative. Re: [TMIC] OT bed question
Hi Kevin, About 18 months ago we purchased a new bed. It is a firm mattress with a pillow-top. We are both finding it most comfortable. Previously we had a firm bed without the pillow-top. Even my husband who does not have TM found the old one was hard on his shoulders and hips. I know that there are special beds as well if you are concerned about bedsores etc. From what I remember you are confined a lot of the time to bed. I'm sure there are others who will be able to give you mroe advice. Perhaps too you could check with your homeand health stores. Or even with a doctor of physio or health care person. I'm sure there are beds out there that would be good for you with the problems we all deal with with TM. Let us know what you finally decide to do. Re: [TMIC] Shoes
A few years ago I had a terrible pressure sore on my foot so I know what you're going through looking for shoes. If alternate between (high top) tennis shoes and earth shoes and by them being wider at the toe I can take an insole and put it sideways for extra cushion on the side. Ella
[TMIC] Update
Hi, everyone, I would like to give you an update on what is happening. Last week I received the results of both my latest PET scan and CAT scan. I am now considered to be in remission. Yahoo!!.All of the prayers that you offered were heard. Now, I can look forward to putting my energy into getting better. I am now volunteering once a week at the Cancer Center where I received treatment. Now, it is as a worker for the American Cancer Society working with new patients. When you have Been there, done that, it is much easier to talk to someone about their concerns or questions. I am contemplating some other volunteer activities and also some work with my last employer as a volunteer. I do not have any more tests for several months, but will keep you informed of any changes. On behalf of all of Team Hammond (Mike, Jill, Joel and Janel) I want to thank you for your thoughts, prayers, emails, calls and cards, they all meant a great deal to us. God bless each of you and we'll be talking to you soon. All the best, and all our love, Team Hammond

Re: [TMIC] Update
Team Hammond, Thank goodnesswhat a great message!! Please know how wonderful that makes your tm family! Continue your trip to return of strength and we'll keep you in our prayers..you know we have much to be thankful for, too..our Mike is up and running (or some such), In my opinion, your decision to get into the volunteer mode, has a lot to do with the strength you've gained through the power of prayer and the folks who were by your side through this long journey, the medics and the tmers. Again, thanks for keeping us informed. Please continue the same as time goes along. Hugs to the whole team! janh Stillwater, OK Hi, everyone, I would like to give you an update on what is happening. Re: [TMIC] OT bed question
Hi Kevin, Ahh, the subject of a bed, it's just so very personal. I've had a firm mattress for many years due to some back problems. Nothing as serious as TM, but always needed the firm support for the past 20 or so years. I currently have a firm mattress with a pillowtop. It has the reinforced steel sides, so it doesn't dent in where you sit on the edge. As others have stated, the pillowtop gives the comfort on top of the support. Everyone of us has such different needs for comfort and support here. If you have the option of going out and trying out mattresses, that is really the best way to purchase. We tried many types, including the memory foam. The memory foam didn't work for me, as I have enough trouble rolling over on a regular mattress, but absolutely cannot roll over on a memory foam mattress. On the one we have, I can grab onto the side of the bed and get an assist, and it's so much easier to roll myself over and position myself where I want to be. The height of the mattress/bed frame, etc should also be taken into account for ease of getting in and out of bed or transferring when you think of your purchase. Good luck and I hope that you find something that will give you many years of comfortable sleeping in the future.
