Re: [TMIC] Wheelchair questions

Hi Jude,

Yes, I've been putting many hours and days of research into power
wheelchairs. I tried one in my condo
yesterday, but even the Pride Go-Chair, a small chair, was too big for
our tiny bathroom. I'm going to
try a Jazzy 1113 next. It's supposed to have a small turning circle. i
will probably have to have the door

to our bathroom removed for a little more turning room.

Thanks for thinking of me. I hope you are doing ok.

Kevin

I am wondering who uses Power Wheelchairs on the TMIC?
I cannot use a manual wheelchair because my hands are bad.

Would you mind posting which chair you use, what you like or
don't like about it, is it good for indoor or outdoor use or both?

I am considering a Pride Go-Chair mainly because it is small
and comes apart for travel. (note: this is not the same as a
Go-Go Scooter)

Also, is anyone familiar with the wheelchair provider Maxim
Mobility in
New Haven, CT? Good or bad?

 Thanks!

I use a Pride Mobility Quantum 600 with a non-reclining seat and golf-
cart-like 14 inch drive wheels, three inch casters front and back,
Chosen to go over the rough lawn of a cemetery. It does get stuck in
the rough lawn near the garden where rocks near the surface can trap a
caster. Controller is five speed. Takes twenty minutes to drive down
the highway for a mile. Smashes furniture and walls like a bulldozer,
so speed three is max in the house.

Very pleased with it.

I have a Quantum 610 and love it. From the joystick I can elevate my legs
and recline flat. What I have not tried though is having the base facing
forward and pivoting the chair to the side (like sitting at a table to eat).
They even had a color chart like a car lot. There are also 4 speeds so you
can slow it downcan you tell I like my chair?

Hi Kevin,

Just an fyi, not sure if you are getting any help from insurance, medicare,
etc. or not on this power chair.? If you are not, you may want to consider
purchasing one second hand.? I've bought 2 second hand, the second only because
the first one didn't have the power to pull the hills at our fairgrounds, and
there are many fun events at our local fairgrounds.?

You can get some really good deals on a second hand scooter.? We bought mine
through private parties, but when going to a local mobility store for some new
crutches he had some great used scooters, and for not any more money than I
paid.? His looked newer and I was surprised.? There are so many people who get
them and only use for a very short time, and some never even go out of the
house.?

Unless I can get insurance to pay for me, which is highly unlikely with my
current?HMO,?I'll never buy new.

Hugs to all, Barbara A
