Need simple app to test tc5 session failover - please
Hello Tomcat users and creators. Thank you all for helping out. Can anyone point to me a simple app that I can use to test if tomcat 5 session failover is working? I don't think any of the standard tomcat examples will work. I tried numguess, but my guess count gets reset to 1 each time I fail over. I'm not a java programmer so I'm not able to write my own test app. I do know from the docs page that an app has to meet (at least) the following two requirements: 1. All your session attributes must implement java.io.Serializable 2. Make sure your web.xml has the distributable/ element I'm using tomcat 5.0.30 on linux. I have just set up jk-based load balancing and uncommented the cluster section in the server.xml. Thanks very much, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: Need simple app to test tc5 session failover - please
Dan, I just spent a couple of weeks working with Filip Hanik to get session replication and failover working correctly on Tomcat 5.5.7 (at least for the specifics of my situation). Failover was working fine, though I did have to use a special listener to handle the replication of the jvmRoute suffix with MOD_JK properly. What was not working was when one restarted the failed node - some exceptions would occur and it would not pick up the load properly. I wrote a simple test case application that just updated a counter in an object stored in the session each time a request was submitted. The application is tiny, but the supporting jar files make the zip file about 4mb in size. If you can receive such a large email attachment let me know and I'll send it directly to you. Let me know - Richard Dan Carwin wrote: Hello Tomcat users and creators. Thank you all for helping out. RE: Tomcat 5.5.4 / Context not responding - Test example webapp
To demonstrate this problem, I have reduced it to a small web app. 1. Install 5.5.4 and delete tomcat/webapps/ROOT 2. Create file test.xml and save it to tomcat/conf/Catalina/localhost with the content Context path= docBase=/test/Context 3. Create folder tomcat/webapps/test 4. Create in that folder (3) file called test.jsp with content !DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC -//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN html head titleHello 5.5.4/title meta http-equiv=Content-Type content=text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 /head body %= Hello 5.5.4 % /body /html 5. Start tomcat 6. Request http://yourserver:8080/test/test.jsp You should get a blank page. Not good! Cheers, Allistair. -Original Message- From: Allistair Crossley Sent: 12 November 2004 11:33 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Tomcat 5.5.4 / Context not responding Hi All, Well, I finally have Tomcat 5.5.4 running my application with NTLM authentication and logging. One final hurdle remains and that is requests and the web application context. It appears that if I make a request to my web application with http://testserver/loadPage.do it does not work. When I say does not work, I mean I get a blank page back. When I request http://testserver/iq/loadPage.do i.e adding the context name, it works. I am assuming this is configuration. I have iq.xml located in tomcat/conf/Catalina/localhost. The entry looks like this... Context path= docBase=/iq reloadable=true Resource name=jdbc/iq auth=Container type=javax.sql.DataSource username=usr password=pw driverClassName=net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver url=jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://testserver:1433/db_iQ;charset=Cp125 2;TDS=7.0 maxActive=8 maxIdle=4 maxWait=1 validationQuery=SELECT 1 + 1 / /Context This is how 5.0.28 used to be setup in terms of path= and docBase=/iq. I looked at the 5.5 docs but path and docBase appear to be used in the same way. I have also deleted ROOT from webapps. Can anyone suggest why I am having to add my web application name into URLs? RE: Tomcat 5.5.4 / Context not responding - Test example webapp
Hi, Yep, I had read those but it does not mention that you do *not* delete ROOT anymore like you did in previous version of Tomcat and that you are supposed to also name the XML config file to ROOT. I've used Tomcat from version 3, and so I found this counter to previous experience with Tomcat configuration. I also find that these types of feature changes slip by because the configuration pages are divided up quite a lot and it is difficult to spot these subleties. I would find a page that caters for a basic setup with the new version for a basic web application deployed from root + data sources quite helpful and I am happy to write this either as a blog on my site, or as an addition to the Tomcat docs .. whatever is most useful. What's the best way to test a database connection
Hello: I just finished installing Tomcat 5.5.1. I would like to know if it ships with any utility to check database connectivity. I created a JDBC connection to a SQL server and I would like to test the database access. Thanks. Venkat
RE: What's the best way to test a database connection
Hi, If you're using a connection pool and you have minIdle set to anything higher than 0, Tomcat will try to create a connection on startup and send an error to the log if that's unsuccessful. Otherwise, you have to test JDBC connectivity yourself with a little bit of code. RE: This is a test message
I have just checked the status page: http://www.spamcop.net/w3m?action=blcheckip=209.237.227.199 and everything looks good apart from one 3 hour period in the last 14 days. I have been receiving mail consistently from both the user and dev list. Looks like you might be seeing some other (possibly unrelated) problem. Watchdog 4.0 Test failures for Tomcat 5
Hello, I am trying to run Watchdog 4.0 tests on Tomcat 5. I am aware that Watchdog 4.0 tests the compliance with Servlet 2.3 and JSP 1.2 while Tomcat 5 supports Servlet 2.4 and JSP 2.0. However, it seems to me that the failures I am getting are probably independent of the Servlet and JSP version. For example, in jsp-xml tests I got following two failures: 1. [java] [watchdog] FAILED request_time_attributesTest [java] [watchdog] (GET/jsp-tests/jsp/tagext/misc/request_time_attributesXML.jsp HTTP/1.0) In this test, the attributes are supposed to be evaluated from left to right. However, the output on my tomcat server seems to evaluate attributes from right to left. 2. [java] [watchdog] Error in: GET /jsp-tests/jsp/tagext/TldPathResolution/explicit/negativeAbsFatalTranslationErrorXML.jsp HTTP/1.0 [java] [watchdog] Expected Status-Line with one or all of the following values: [java] [watchdog] Status-Code: 500 [java] [watchdog] Reason-Phrase: [java] [watchdog] Received: HTTP/1.1 200 OK [java] [watchdog] FAILED negativeAbsFatalTranslationErrorTest This tests is supposed to ellicit a HTTP/500 error from server. However, the output from my tomcat server seems to be a valid HTML file. What can be the problem in these cases? I am using Tomcat 5 on Redhat Linux 9.0 (i386). The Watchdog mailing lists seems to be dead. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nimish - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Tomcat crashes during a stress test
Hi, we have an IIS 5 and Tomcat 4.1.29 working together on Win2000. When we run a stress test Tomcat service stops and log messages don't indicate anything wrong prior to when it stoped. The load is not high at all - just 20 users. The tomcat could stop after 5 min, sometimes after 1-15, one time it didn't even crash and ran for about an hour. Anyone ever experienced that problem? Do you know what it might be? Any help is appreciated. Any success with JDK 1.4.2_03 + Tomcat 5 + CA-issued test certificate?
Has anyone had success using a test certificate from Verisign or other Certificate Authority using JDK 1.4.2_03 and Tomcat 5? Sun changed defaults in the JDK in the recent past (like using X.509 certs instead of PKCS#7, and apparently the list of default ciphers) and now Tomcat chokes on Verisign and Thawte certs because those certs don't have ciphers supported by default. Using a self-signed certificate works fine. Bruno - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: load test suite - apache-tomcat
you might want to give JMeter and Apache AB a try, if they are suitable. peter lin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Loadrunner is one nice tool for creating script for web load testing. You can do absolutly anything with that tool. I tried lots of other load testing suite opensource or not and I`m still having a hard time finding a tool as complet as LR. You can try openSTA. Looking for a opensource app or something light to simulate a same type of test to compare to the LR results.. Also a way to monitor the ejb transaction might be helpful.. We hit apache fine with 2k hits, we also hit apache-tomcat fine with 2k users just hitting a static jsp, once we try to simulate a login to our app the max vusers goes down to 100 or less.. which makes me think we could have a problem with our lr script..
