I opened one at nntp.wiserlabz.com and www.wiserlabz.com under forums...
I have some Apache Developers there already... there is not any tomcat
traffic so far though... I'd be happy to help in any way..

Why don't all of use support / forum sites, standardize, on let's say an
NNTP backbone, and synchronize all our apache / tomcat etc.. support
forums... let's show what technology can do...

Suggestion: A dedicated TOMCAT forum!

2004-09-20 Thread nyhgan
Dear all,

I would like to suggest the jakarta team to host a dedicated forum for all jakarta
projects, especially the TOMCAT project.

Tomcat has evolved from 3.x to 5.5.x, capable of supporting the latest jsp and servlet
specifications. It is time for Tomcat to rival against other commercial products. I
believe that having an open discussion forum is the first step toward such a goal as
it will attract a vast number of new users to the tomcat world.

nyhgan.

Hi,

I didn't know that there is already a TOMCAT forum. It is sad to see that the

Re: Suggestion: A dedicated TOMCAT forum!

2004-09-20 Thread muss
Hi Suresh,

Just by looking at your startup output it seems to be that you have set
your environment variable CATALINA_HOME to C:\Tomca and NOT C:\Tomcat as
it should be. Also ensure that your SDK installation exists in C:\Java as
this is what your JAVA_HOME environment variable is set to. Try doing this
and re-run your server and in theory you shouldn't have any problems.

Kindest Regards,
Matt Anderson

RE: Suggestion: A dedicated TOMCAT forum!

2004-09-21 Thread Shapira, Yoav

Hi,
Stop hijacking threads, please. Sheesh.

As to the Forum suggestion: one was indeed started a long time ago. I
don't know if it was an advertising problem or simple inertia that made
the Forum not so active. The mailing list has only grown in activity,
OTOH. So I'm not sure where to go here.

If we have a Forum AND a mailing list, that leads to confusion: two
places to post questions, two places to look for answers, etc. Should
we drop the mailing list? I wouldn't be so quick to do that ;)

2004-09-21 Thread Allistair Crossley
i think you would need a forum that was capable of subscribing to new posts. with the
mailing list, everybody is forced (kind of) to read new messages whereas a forum takes
more effort to go to and then to find the new messages.

on the negative side, it can get on my nerves with all the emails coming in, but I
still like to be informed. i think a forum would be good, but with the option to
subscribe or unsubscribe from pushing new message notifications out.

Yes, and forums typically require web access whenever you want to
check/post/review. By comparison, raw mail permits archival and offline
access that a web-based (or even NNTP-based) forum can't touch.

RE: Suggestion: A dedicated TOMCAT forum!

2004-09-21 Thread John Najarian
Hi Suresh,

The other person who responded to this thread had pointed out your
environment variables may not be set properly. Have you tried looking into
this?

Also, if there is no 'logs' directory under the main installation
directory for Tomcat I'd suggest reinstalling Tomcat. I run Tomcat 5.0.27
on Windows XP like you and there is definitely this logs forlder and files
in it. It was also like this in version 5.0.19. Perhaps you've had a bad
installation. It isn't hard or time consuming so I'd try to reinstall.

I am using Windows XP professional OS but there is no folder like logs in
entire Tomcat folder structure. Please help in resolving the issue. Is there

something wrong class while setting classpatch. In my classpath i inculded
all the jars which are under C:\Tomcat\common\lib folder.

Thanks a lot

Wasn't it (at least in the early days of the forum) that
the posts to the forum where copied to the list ?

Hey what happened to the tomcat forum?

Hey what happened to the tomcat forum?

Or am I being obtuse?

Do you mean the lack of messages?

No, not the mailing list but the forum that used to
be at:

http://nagoya.apache.org:8080/jive/index.jsp

It no longer works...

It's been that way for about a month I think. I don't think it will be
missed, but an explanatory page instead of the exception trace from jive
would be appropriate.
