[tbc-users] Re: GUI Annoyance

2009-03-31 Thread Scott Henninger

Jim; What does your import structure look like? If some of the files
you unselected are between those you do, then they could also be
changed.

E.g. suppose you have a 'main' that imports imp1 and imp1 imports
imp2. You change something in imp2. In the pop-up box you leave main
chosen and unselect imp1. Even though you've stated that imp1 should
not be changed, imp1 could still be changed because it is imported by
main, which you are changing. Hence imp1's will get opened.

You can choose Close all for the file tabs.

appears to basically ignore the selection on the pop-up, and opens all of

OK--

I guess I misunderstood what the first pop-up was telling me--I assumed
that it could show a small list because the URI that I am changing was
only referenced in those places, which I then assumed would mean that none
of the other files would get affected, and therefore would not be opened.
Is there something I am not considering? Will a file change due to
changing a URI, if that URI is not referenced there?

The Close Others option works great, if you only had one tab opened to
start with; if this action causes my 5 tabs to expand to 25, then it's a
bit of a pain to get back to just the 5.

[tbc-users] Re: GUI Annoyance

2009-03-31 Thread Smith, Tim
I have found the refactoring to work as I expect - following imports,
etc. However, I would like to second the notion that opening
(potentially) dozens of files and then leaving them open in the editors
when the refactoring is done is at least inconvenient. It would be
great if the refactoring code could close the editors that it opens when
the refactoring is complete. As Jim points out, when you typically have
5-10 open, it is troublesome to selectively close an additional 20+

2009-03-31 Thread Holger Knublauch
Tim,

I think it's dangerous to automatically close any modified files.
The current policy is to leave them open with a (*) behind them to
indicate that they contain unsaved changes. A quick save all in the
end gives the user a better control IMHO.

But I see the underlying problem - the system in fact open too many
files than necessary. I have fixed this for the 3.0 release, so that
only the directly checked files will be opened.

Thanks (as usual),
Holger
