Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch or NAS
I was using a USB DAC when I noticed the issue, but subsequently noticed it all the other outputs so I came to the conclusion it was NOT a USB specific issue. After a lot of listening tests and trying different things I came to the conclusion that the primary correlation was decoding flac files on the touch. I have tried numerous tests both with ADM and checking for jitter on the clocks and have not been able to find any difference. Now my jitter measuring capability is not super sensitive so it might still be there but I can't measure it. (really good jitter measuring equipment is really expensive, there is no way I can afford to buy some) What I DID fins was that jitter increases slightly when playing to headphones. Please don't take what I'm saying as meaning that the Touch is somehow defective or woefully underpowered or any thing like that, I am definitely NOT saying that!!! One of the advantages of the Sb approach is that you put most of the computing on another computer (the server) out of the listening environment, there are many good reasons to do that. The more you put computing back in the SB you are negating those advantages to some degree. Exactly what these are and exactly how they interact with us is not fully understood so I can't give you a precise reason. And to make it much more difficult it seems to vary significantly from setup to setup. For ME the best sound happens when as much computing as possible is done remotely. Others will disagree with that, thats fine. Thats one of the beauties of the Sb system, its very flexible, it lets YOU determine how you want to set up your system and optimize things based on how it sounds to YOU. I also don't want want people to blow this out of proportion, the worst I can get out of the touch (playing flac files on the local server with a USB drive plugged in going got headphones) is actually still really good, much better than most of the equipment in my house. Its just that if you optimize things it sounds phenomenal. That is a good sign. The development team has been chasing its tail for over a year just trying to get someone (anyone) to set a concrete spec for the Touch. By freezing things, the development team can at least tackle the last handful of high priority bugs. A couple of those bugs look pretty gnarly, though, so I don't expect a surprise release of the Touch tomorrow. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Unofficial official Release Date
Wow - the Touch was released, COOL, it will be oh, they finally released the touch, eh?. Ha. So true. For me the time line was: 1) Start researching solutions about October. 2) Discover Logitech's Touch, compare it to others, and decide it's a great product 3) Go to order touch and come to find out it's not even out yet. Given the way it was promoted on their site, this was surprising. 4) So, I preorder anyway, thinking it's got to be close. 5) Then I find out the release is so far off, there's not even a release date. So, I begin to look at other solutions. 6) Find another solution for very little extra cost that accomplishes my main objective. 7) Cancel preoder. 8) Now, I'm just casually interested in the Touch. It still seems like a good product, but not sure if I really need it or would use it that much. So, given the cost, I'll wait till it comes out, see how it performs, and reevaluate if I still want one. As far as I am concerned now, they can wait till Christmas, because I'll probably just ask for one as a gift at that point. -- BrianB BrianB's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35727 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73231 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Just received an email from Logitech today with a customer survey link asking how I liked my online shopping experience for the unit they've still not yet shipped. I especially enjoyed the question as to how I liked the product's packaging. Now that's just downright fascinating!
