Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 2.0
Update: Disregard those figures. I found a way to isolate the Perl module in the activity monitor, and I queued up a FLAC album (previous figures were based on an old OGG album). The Perl process seems to maintain a continuous level of network traffic at around 110-140KB/sec, until about 40 seconds from the end of a track, when it drops to around 25KB/sec. At about 10 seconds from the end it spikes to 1.6MB/sec. So it seems as though that spike is the player filling the buffer with the next track, and then the buffer is topped up continuously until near the end of the track (-40s) when the whole of the remainder of the track is in the buffer. So all that this shows is that, for the Mac at least, the period between -40s and -10s should be virtually free of network traffic, and should sound better than the rest of the track if there's anything to this theory. -- chill chill's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10839 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84742 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Instructions for connecting USB DAC to Touch
Hi Everybody trying to get async USB DACs working with the Touch, this seems to have become a very big deal in the last week. I have been receiving tons of off list communications on this. I have received a loaner HRT music streamer II to try and work out the issues and am starting testing on this. Unfortunately trying to answer all the private communications is taking away from the time I have to work on issues. So from now on I'm not going to answer individual communications for awhile. I'm not trying to be rude I'm just trying to get to a solution as fast as possible. So if everybody would please try and chill out for a few days I'll spend as much time as I can on the testing and get back here when I have some results. I probably won't be posting here either for several days while I'm focusing on the testing, don't take this as I don't care, I'm just focusing on it. Again I apologize if this sounds rude, thats not the intention, I just want to get to a solution as soon as possible. I've used liveshowtagger in the past. been a while. I suspect the issue is your tags in general. after using liveshowtagger, I'd install mp3tag and open these flac files in mp3tag and really make sure your tags are exactly what you want. Once the files are in your active window, right click in a few and select extended tags. This will show you ALL the tag fields that exist and the value. I suspect something is up here. Make sure you use only the regular FLAC tags (NOT ID3v2 tags inside a FLaC file). Flac tags are called vorbis comment tags to be a happy Squeezebox user you really need to take control over your tags. and mp3tag has a bit of a learning curve but you'll find it to be a very powerful tagging program -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85311 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] downsampling 24/96 to 16/44 or 16/48 on squeezeserver
Theoretically Downsampling require dithering for best possible quality. If the DAC gets wordlegth 18 it's going to truncate that is not as nice as dithering. But you have to try to see if you can hear any difference. Try with some suitable software and make such files. Btw if you are going to make downsampled copies make 172.4 and 88.2 to 44.1kHz and 192 and 96 to 48kHz , otherwise some kind of not nice re-sampling can be introduced, so an even multiple is the best choice. More experienced members can maybe help you write a custom-convert.conf file to get this performed on the fly with flac and SOX . If you have a server with some CPU (not NAS) There is no simple settings to change ,you have to specify your own custom conversion rules in a custom-convert.conf and put that in the same folder as the convert.conf file . You can write an enhancement request in bugzilla that dac capabilities should be a setting in sbs and rally some votes for it on the forum, just an idea. It's an very odd request -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe' Primare and Dynadio speakers, Contour 4 Contour Center, and Contour 1.3SE rear ch. Hi mraliman, one option is to download SqueezeboxServer-7.5.1.exe and install it to your (Windows-) PC as a server. If your touch connects to the PC it tells you, that there is an update (7.5.1) available. Another way (and easier) is to download the file fab4_7.5.1_r9218.bin from http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.5.1/ and store it in the root of a SD-card or usb-stick. Insert it into the touch and choose software-update. Now you should see an available update 7.5.1 . Hope this helps. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch As Pre-amp
The office was closed today because of the midwest blizzard which gave me some time to play. I decided to haul up a couple of Polk LSi 9's from the basement HT to see how the Touch would work as a preamp directly into an Emotiva XPA-2. It worked very well. The Polks are rated at 88db sensitivity and a volume of 65 or so was a comfortable listening level with most material. The Magnepan's I have on order are a few db less sensitive. If I decide the preamp I've ordered doesn't improve on the Touch I'd probably put in some in-line attenuator's to keep the touch volume control in the 85-90 range. Anyway, the Touch does work just fine as a preamp. -- mraub1 mraub1's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43441 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85096 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
[SlimDevices: Touch] Unusual dropouts streaming radio via my squeezebox.com
Hi all I have been experiencing very odd dropouts whilst streaming radio paradise through the squeezebox touch (via my squeezebox.com). I am getting very regular dropouts but they take the form of stuttering, sometimes literally stuttering and sometimes with gaps of a few seconds. It almost sounds like static or interference at times. Usually dropouts just take the form of no sound at all for a period, but this is different. I also checked it with other stations and it also occurs with them too! Has anybody got any ideas, the touch is via a new rega dac and the connection is wireless. I replaced my router a few weeks ago and have had a totally stable connection since, with no dropouts in connection (I work from home, so I'd know) Cheers Rich -- dicy dicy's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10110 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85340 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I re-applied the firmware in the actual Touch, and that did the trick. It's under Advanced, Software update, I believe. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Newbie with Questions for the Experts
I've been using DVD Audio Extractor to rip flac files in there native resolution from DVD-A discs I own, in stereo of course. I read in one of the forums, this one or AVS, That the SBT will play back DD or DTS files in 5.1 as long as they are decoded and ripped to flac. These files would be 24/48. I know optical or coax out can support this resolution, but hadn't read anything about the SBT being able to play multi-channel media. So I ripped Donald Fagen's The Nightfly in 5.1 24/48 and tried playing it through the SBT, but all I got was stereo in and out. Will the SBT support 5.1 as long as the Rez doesn't exceed 24/48 or 5.1 at all? -- tmauceri tmauceri's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=41450 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=83244 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] wrong album art for some albums
Upon checking the album art in detail I noticed that in some part in my collection (somewhere in the A-I folders) there were some anomalies in the album art: the embedded files were OK, but the folder.jpg's were sometimes mixed up, wrong files from different albums. Looks like some copy or disk error from some time ago (they were all older files). Of course I did not notice this when still using the SB2. It seems the album art scan became mixed up with this...since correcting it manually the problem disappeared and the Touch is now showing the correct album art. I also updated to 7.6 and noticed some differences in that, too, so that may also have helped.
