Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] tinysc scanning questions

2011-03-08 Thread JJZolx

I have this problem every once in a while with BigSC when running a
clear & rescan. Are you sure file scanning has stopped at some point?
If that were the case then I'd expect to see missing albums from 'ZZ
Top' or something similar. In my case when I look at the scanning logs
(probably no such thing with TinySC) I can see random files were
skipped, with the scanner claiming that it couldn't read tags.

The way I 'fix' it with BigSC is to run a new & changed scan afterward,
and it always picks up the skipped files. Is that an option with
TinySC? I've played with TinySC, but don't recall whether you can
manually run anything but a clear & rescan.

Is your file count correct itself after the automatic scan that happens
afterward?

[SlimDevices: Touch] Switching from USB/SD to SBS WoL

2011-03-08 Thread timearp

Morning all, I've a function which I don't think is catered for
currently. I wish to be able to switch from using the local SBS on the
Touch to the one on my server (and have it wake the server).

As I use WoL to wake my server, unless it is connected when the Touch
is powered down it doesn't seem to be sending the WoL packet. I've not
managed to get it to sucessfully wake yet. Anyone else noticed
this/worked around it/suggestions/not got this problem?

Cheers,

Tim

Try rebooting your router.
Are you running SBS on your computer or connecting directly to MySB.com
online?
If using SBS go to SBS > Control Panel > Diagnostics, what is reported

Thanks for your reply JJ
Whether scanning truly stopped or not I cannot say. The screen said it
stopped due to a problem. There were albums I could not access that I
had just added. With tinysc there is no scanner log that I am aware of.
Also no option I am aware of for a new and changed scan. Both times
after a wipe and rescan the file count was wrong. That is the only way
I know of to check the number of files.

Went to sleep last night with searching media for music files on screen
and still there this morning. Went back to browse artists and files
still not there. I then went to switch library, continue without
network, USB and now can find files that were added yesterday. If they
are all there -who knows as I do not know how to find a count except w
a wipe and rescan. It would be nice to have a way to display the count
to verify the accuracy of a scan.

Some but not all of the added files show when I go to new music as well
as browse by artist

At any rate I think everything is OK now. I will now proceed to set up
a wi-fi network and see what challenges that brings.

Thanks again

Don

I don't have my Touch in front of me so I can't give you the exact menu
paths, but under Settings > Advanced there is an option to enable
sharing the HDD over the network. The Touch runs a Samba server, which
is the standard software used by NASs and other devices.

So I have a techie outfit coming to my house to wire it with Cat6 this
Thursday. I guess I should verify they are using un-shielded? Or can
I assume they will?

Hyptothetically, if they used shielded, and it ran to an ethernet
switch first before reaching my Touch, and the cable from the switch to
the Touch was unshielded, would that setup still be "bad" or would it
avoid problems?

Hi Don

You can see how many tracks you have in your attached USB HDD library:
(with the Touch connected to TinySC) > Settings > Advanced > Squeezebox
Information > Library Statistics.

I have on my attached USB 29,091 tracks, this is exactly 1 track less
than on my Netbook SBS, what that track is I don't know, but I'm not
losing sleep over it.

Also in there is "Squeezebox Server Log File" gives location of the

No that would be OK. You don't want the possibility of the shield
providing a route directly into the Touch.

Dave, I'm at a loss on your track info issue. In all of the various
setups I've used and all the different types of players (including

related to some sort of port blocking or something on your setup (that

problem with the TOUCH or SbS itself. But I could be wrong.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Touch and Asus eee box issues

2011-03-08 Thread mullet

Any help appreciated.

I just got a Asus eee box and have attached a WD 1tb ext HD by mounting
the drive in a folder. The set up is all wired. My aim is to use the eee
box as a server for the Touch. I have used this set up on an old PC and
it works fine.

Problem is when SBS server scans the library all is good to that point
BUT when I try to access via the Touch it never connects and worse it
kills the eee box internet and network connection and I have to reset
the internet/network connection on Win7 on the eee box.

Tried remounting ext HD in different folder and still no luck. Same
result. The eee box has no trouble talking to other PCs on my network.

Anyone have any ideas what the problem could be please? SBS on the eee
PC says the connection is ok in diagnostics until I actually try to
connect the Touch to the eee PC and that's when it wont find the eee
box and kills the LAN and internet connection.

Help please.
Thanks.

An SMPS (which is what all switches, routers etc come with) could

A SMPS is not going to affect what is going through a network switch.

Apart from (decent) HiFi components, name me one thing that doesn't
have a SMPS of some sort. They are cheap and very efficient compared to
50Hz transformer designs.

Mobile chargers.
TVs.
Video.
DVD players.

Not to mention the rubbish compact flourescent bulbs put out.

They are abundant in everything and moreso due to EEC legistlation on
low power devices. All part of the EEC Low Power Directive.

They are here to stay and of much better performance than 10 years
ago.

If you claim to be able to hear a difference then you are barking mad.
Can I interest you in the fluffle gaggled new SMPS with a noise floor
of -70dBV root mean square peak output music power device? With
enhanced Calculus functions

Library Statistics should be there. Are you sure your touch is
connected to TinySC for your local music files?

I didn't say it would affect what is going through the switch - of
course it won't.

You really need to read things more carefully...

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] tinysc scanning questions

2011-03-08 Thread maggior

You want to list the albums in the file system and the albums in the
squeezeboxserver database. Then compare the 2 lists.

To get the list from the filesystem, you can use "dir /s" with some
other options to only list directories (I'm assuming you have a
directory for each album). Getting a list from the database is more of
a challenge. I seem to recall a script or a plugin that would generate
an html file representing your music library based on the
squeezeboxserver database.

It would be a little tedious, but you could then sort your lists and
read through them to find what's missing.

Do you have a mix of filetypes in your library? Perhaps some of the
filetypes are being exluded. Is it possible you have some files that
have DRM in them (iTunes, etc.)? These will not be loaded into your
library.

Another possible issue if directory permissions.

Once you come up with a few albums that aren't showing up, you can look
for a common denominator to figure out what is wrong.

I can play music. Went to switch Libraries, continue without a
network,USB,Select browse by artist, select artist ,select album and
play. Am I missing something ?

Went out for a bit and when I came back there was a msg that squeezebox
server had stopped due to a problem. Restarted server and did the above
and it works although it appears to be scanning again could that be the
issue ?

If I do a factory reset I assume I will need to reconnect the Touch to
the internet to reload the software ? At this point I would like to
avoid 7.5.3 due to all the issues folks have been having.

Interesting. And I mentioned "port blocking" not popup blocking. But
then again if it was port blocking I don't think you'd ever get the
track info at all, and you do get it some of the time. I have to
believe this is something on your system rather than a problem with the
TOUCH. You do seem to have a much more complicated than normal setup.

Have you looked at the logs in SbS:

SbS > Settings > Advanced > LOGGING
look at your Server log file. (down below you can set the server log
for debug to get more verbose output).

Yes. Shielded ethernet cable is not very common in the US in
residential installs (at least what I'm told) but seems to be more
common in Europe. The issue (I'm told) is that it is much more
difficult to correctly install shielded CAT6 and its connectors, etc..
Myself, I used unshielded CAT6.

I am running a SBS, and the touch unit should also be connecting to
mysb.com as well?
It says ok for the ports pings for both the sbs and mysb.com. It also
says that it is registered to mysb.com.
So it seems to be able to connect properly, but it still gives this
error.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Cannot ssh into Touch

2011-03-08 Thread magiccarpetride

Finally decided to switch to WLAN on Touch. Once I did that, I was
forced to do factory reset and then Touch insisted that I upgrade.

Everything works fine, but I lost all my mods. Now, when I try to ssh
into it, I can't. I go "shn root@192.168.1.102", it says "Connection
refused".

Please help, how do I resolve this?

ssh is turned off by default following a software update. Go into
settings - advanced on the Touch itself and re-enable "remote login"
