I've also a SB-Radio working without any trouble from the same TinySB. It's not perfect, there are things that never worked for me, such as search and sync. I hope the performance improvements in 7.6 will help for those, but I'm not holding my breath. But, I'm pretty rigourous with respect to my setup, which probably explain why it's working for me. Is this another "speculation" thread? My guess is we won't see a Touch replacement anytime soon. And since then I've done the same with an 80+ year old woman. My brothers library is about 50,000 tracks, mostly mp3 and some AAC, 90 percentv with embedded art. I think iPhone on these forums has reported equal success with a large library of FLACS. Personally I use a vortex box appliance and a local SbS. (and I believe a local SbS is the optimum setup). My point in repeating this story is that the tinysbs can work and you don't have to be a computer geek to have it simply work with little or no interaction with the details. [SlimDevices: Touch] SBS on QNAP/Rendering Album Covers
Hi I am using a QNAP TS210 NAS with SB Server software installed in the NAS. I am currently ripping about 400 CDs of my 800 collection into FLAC. All is going well in terms of the SBS scanning for new and changed files etc but yesterday I ripped new CDs with album art (covers.jpeg) as I always have. I did a rescan for new or changed files. All files were picked up but the album art was not although all art was in the album folder. Nothing has changed from my other 390 rips. I had to do a clear library for SBS to pick up those album covers. That took about 45 mins owing to SBS in NAS. My question is: is this normal as my library size increases? My NAS is not powerful enough and as my file size increases, I will continue to have issues with the album art not being picked up? I am considering getting a Vortexbox Appliance which is a much more powerful box for my flac streaming if this will help. Your thoughts. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] touch + spotify = no computer needed ?
Taking the question one step further: As the Touch can de-crypt the Spotify stream locally (and therefore isn't dependent on running through a SqueezeServer Spotify plugin on a NAS/PC for the purpose) and can, as far as I understand, stream (synchronized or independent streams) to other Squeezebox devices (think the official recommendation is up to 2 other devices, and not the oldest versions)is it safe to then assume the Touch also does stream Spotify to other devices? My gut feeling is that there is some kind of catch, like "no, synchronising the de-crypted stream to other devices would violate the Spotify agreement...yes, even though it's possible to do the same thing through SqueezeServer on a PC/NAS" ;) The reason I ask is that since iPads and iPhones entered my household, the only reason for having my PC running 24/7 is to be able to run Spotify on my Duet, and to me that is just stupidity in multiple dimensions. So I seriously consider replacing the Duet with a Touch, and this question is to be able to decide if I should get rid of the Duet or keep it and use it to expand the system. (I'll probably also get a Radio at some time in the future to use outdoors during summer, and it would be really nice to have the Spotify stream synced out- and indoors. Your choice of which DAC (Touch or external) will depend on how much you value getting the best possible sound quality. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Complete numptie seeks help with Touch and two Booms
You could attach an externally-powered USB hard drive to the Touch's USB port, and then use the Touch's built-in server to stream music to other Squeezeboxes. The success rate with the Touch's built-in server is definitely mixed. It works fine for some people and terribly for others. The main determining factors seem to be type of USB drive, size of music library, organization of music library (especially album artwork), user expectations, user competence, and user patience. Newer models of iPod cannot be used as external data drives, but if your iPod is one of the older models with a mechanical hard drive that can be used as an external USB drive then you may be able to use it this way. You can't sync another Squeezebox of any type with another Squeezebox that is playing from an iPod. When you connect the iPod to your Boom then you are basically using the Boom as a simple iPod dock, taking advantage of the Boom's amplifier and speakers. It doesn't pipe the iPod music to the music server in any way whatsoever. And you are correct that there is no input for this on a Touch -- either the person you spoke to at Logitech didn't know what he/she was talking about, or you misunderstood. Help, please! I've been reading through lots of the posts and it's very clear to me that you all have a much better knowledge of this sort of stuff than me so apologies if my question is very beginnerish. I've got two Squeezebox Booms and would like to play the music on my iPod through these. However, when I connect the iPod via the 'line in' socket the Booms won't sync, only the one that the iPod's plugged into plays. (They sync fine for internet radio, MP3 Tunes Locker and music on the PC.) Logitech have suggested I buy a Touch and run the iPod through that but I can't see a 'line in' socket on the Touch. Just wondered if any of you out there can tell me if Logitech's suggestion will work - I don't want to buy the Touch if it's not going to do what I need. When you connect ethernet, do you change the network settings to use ethernet (just plugging in cable doesn't do the change). When connected to wifi, what strength does it report (Settings > Advanced > SB Information I think gets you to this screen). -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86562 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Are they significantly better than the > mechanical drives? Not yet. But usb stick are fine for me with the Touch (with 7.6 ...). I guess SSD drives will be the way to go when their price diminish. I recently changed my laptop and now have internal SSD drive, the performance gap is huge. There are two problems for external drives with Touch. The first is the power, SSD should be an improvement. The second is that the hardware of the Touch is probably not powerful enough to handle a large library, no matter it is a HDD or a SSD 100 or 200 GB of flac with artwork is probably too much, while someone having only mp3 with no artwork will have better result. I once suggested that the way to go should be the following - allow the library scan and embedded database creation to be done on a PC, ready to be used as it is when the external drive is connected to the Touch - Allow the customer to completely turn off automatic scan by TinySBS, and do it only on demand. -- nicolas75 nicolas75's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15823 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86446 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Fortunately 7.6 seems fine and going in the right direction, and I keep the Touch which is a great device. That is really the 7.5.3 and 7.5.4 RC that I consider as complete failure, prone to drive a lot of customers away from squeezeboxes. 7.5.2 was fine for me. It seems that a lot of people made the same conclusions. That's why I wrote in another thread that in my opinion, 7.5.3 should have never been released. A lot of developers (I am in the business of software development) are totally unable to figure out that a normal customer is not a geek, and that geek expectations are everything but normal customers expectations -- nicolas75 nicolas75's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15823 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86446 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Problem fixed. I bypassed the zyxel by connecting directly to broadband router. I'm now enjoying my excellent squeezebox touch :) Thank you so much for your very helpful comments! -- ingesol ingesol's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=45009 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86455 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
