What was the Touchs ip beforw you got the AP ?
And hopefully you are not conecting to a niegbours network ;) better to
give your AP a really unique name...

if all else fails ssh to it and give it a static ip, I've used static
ip on all squeezebox related things since 2006 works perfectly.

Agreed. RAIDiator 4.2.3 has been very stable for two years. Stable is
good :-)

Looks like several suggest Squeezebox Server 7.5.2. Features are
secondary to reliability / stability.

Others?

We Shall See. --- There is only 2 different networks as far as the
SBT sees. My laptop only sees 1 network and functions perfectly. All of
the focus in this thread has been on the router and hardly any on the
SBT. To me, after having spent 30+ years in the software industry the
SBT is the suspect here.

Stay tuned...

I've run 7.5.2 - 7.5.4 without issue. But the bigger issue may be you
are running an incredible old version of firmware on the ReadyNAS.
4.2.17 is the latest release

I might take that bet. Still seems like you have two DIFFERENT
networks going on here. one at 192.168.1.x and the other at
192.168.0.x. Everything needs to be one or the other, with only the
"x" at the end different. That is, my router, my computers, my SB

itself as the DHCP server and an address of 192.168.1.1 and all other

I suspect that there is something funky going on with the SBT. My laptop
functions perfectly with the new router configured as an Access Point.

I have decided to 'prove' it by actually buying an Access Point. It's
cheap enough at $30. I am betting that the SBT still will not work with
it.

Here is what I just bought.

7.5.2 has been probably the most stable release to date. 7.5.3 was a
disaster, which is why 7.5.4 came out to address those problems.

I've been running 7.5.4 since it was beta and haven't found any
particular problems with it at all, but some people seem to have
scanner problems with it.

If you don't want the latest and greatest I'd think about going 7.5.2.

I did that. In fact, I found another document that takes you through
setting up a router as an Access Point. - Was a little different - Same
result though. As you can see I have now Changed the IP address of the

Just to make sure that my cable modem was not involved in the problem,
I disconnected it from the Router. I then connected the SBT to the new
access point again and checked the IP address. It was still
192.168.1.2. So it's not the Cable Modem. I also tried disconnecting
the switch from the router and hooking the new access point directly to
my old router. Same result. Same IP address.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Filtering out tracks

2011-06-01 Thread lasker98

You could change the genre of what you want to filter to something
unique, like "radio" for example. Then when selecting random mix
through web interface, you get the option of selecting which genres to
include in a random mix. You would just have to de-select the ones you
don't want. I use this to avoid having Christmas music play in a random
mix in the middle of summer.
Good luck.

That's why I tried the recent 7.6 nightly (which shows the same error)

[SlimDevices: Touch] Filtering out tracks

2011-06-01 Thread homonk

Hello

In my iTunes library I have quite a lot bbc radio shows (around half an
hour long) and podcasts that turn up when I put a random mix on the
squeezebox and ruin everything. Could anyone help me with the best
way to filter these out?

In iTunes I have created a smart playlist that catches most of these
which I then set to skip when shuffling. Is there a way to do
something similar with the squeezebox touch?

I have tried using the custom skip applet but can't get my head around
it.

Thanks in advance.

Everything on your network should have 192.168.0.X addresses including
the AP itself .
The router you have re-purposed as an AP also has an IP address for
itself in fact everything on an network has an IP.

But something is handing out 192.168.1X addresses as JJ pointed out ?

JJ may be rigth if you have some dsl modem who in most cases actually
also is a crippled kind of router (ot it is better to bridge them and
use your main router for account setup).

If you for some reason have multiple DHCP servers running, one of them
is handling out 192.168.1.x I believe that to this the device itself
must have an 192.168.1.x adresses ? Your router who probably is
192.168.0.1 is giving out 192.168.0.x something adresses via it's DHCP

It sure seems like you have an additional DHCP server running on your
network that is handing out 192.168.1.x addresses. If the Squeezebox
Touch was contacting the DHCP server on the old router then it would be
getting a 192.168.0.x IP address. If it were unable to contact any DHCP
server then it would have a self-assigned 169.254.x.x address.

If you're sure the DHCP server on the new router is disabled... Do you
have a cable or DSL modem that might have a DHCP server running?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Now Playing/Artwork lags behind

2011-06-01 Thread sachadog

Hi,
I personally don't get any problems with artwork on the Touch or Duet,
except when I have used the latest release SBS 7.5.4. You will see from
various threads that 7.5.4.s scanner.exe has displayed "faults" when
scanning music/artwork files.
That said, in reading threads over the years, I have noticed the more
knowledgeable members (Technical bits!) have said that artwork should
not be larger than 500 x 500 pixels, so that the scanner can handle
them without a lag. I have artwork below this figure and above and I
don't have a problem.
I use db CD ripper for ripping to flac and the program finds the
correct artwork. If it is above 500 x 500 it automatically reduces the
artwork size to 500 x 500. I also use Album Art Downloader
This may be a contributory factor to your on-going issues. Also what
operating system are you using on your computer/server?
If it was my unit, I would first ascertain what SBS I was using. If it
is 7.5.4 then try a previous SBS issue that was stable i.e. 7.5.3. for
example.
To make sure everything was to start afresh I would clear the cache and
preference files (on the advanced page of the SBS Control Panel.
I would then uninstall SBS completely making sure that nothing
connected with the current install was left behind and then I would
carry out a re-install of a previous SBS and rescan the music files.
If that doesn't do the trick I am stuck on offering further advice.
