That would be nice. All I could google is that there may be a swipe
gesture that works, possibly depending on firmware. Since I can't
upgrade the firmware before setup is complete (or can I?), some more
info would be nice.

But nothing is required after registration either , it will be just as
usable if never ever connected back to the service.

I know, but it can still phone home and link the data gained to my
e-mail and thus to me. Besides, I don't want to end up with a brick
once mysb.com is taken offline.

[SlimDevices: Touch] MOG on the Touch in Australia

I have installed the MOG app on the Touch but get no sound. It appears

Thanks indeed John for this very complete explanation!

Now... I might be a bit old school... but I don't actually feel very
confortable with the idea of being dependant of the internet and
Logitech or whoever. I run now Beta 7.8.0 and Triode's EDO with Test
Kernel #11. This is the only way that lets me play my stuff over async
USB to my DAC, that has a TE8802L based USB input. So... I am looking
for a way to back up this configuration to be able to restore it, also,
if one day Triode's Test-Kernel #11 or Beta 7.8.0 are maybe not
available online anymore.

Hopefully this won't be necessary, as hopefully, TE8802, Linux and
Logitech will do what is necessary to properly make the whole stuff
compatible, but who knows...

MOG is working on this. It seems as if their distribution network was

I just tried this with a fresh-out-of-the-box Touch (courtesy of Amazon
UK's lightening deal the other day). The first thing it asks you to do
is connect to your own network (wired or wireless), and in my case the
first thing it did after I entered my wifi password was to prompt me to
download the latest firmware. At this stage I had not told the unit
anything about my local LMS setup, so I'm pretty sure this happened
because the unit found Logitech's servers by itself.

It then prompted me for my MySB credentials. I could not get the 'swipe
right at the help screen' to work, but I DID eventually manage to bypass
the MySB setup using the remote. After a few failed attempts I resorted
to stabbing at the buttons, so I wasn't sure which button did it in the
end! I did a factory reset to try and figure out which remote key it
was. It is indeed the right arrow - as soon as the MySB login screen
comes up, press AND HOLD the right arrow, and it takes you to the home
screen, from where you can set up your LMS IP address.

If you are that paranoid you could always use a disposable email for

Whether you ever use a MySB.com or always use MySB.com, if MySB.com goes

using LMS server on a computer or the Touch's inbuilt server.

I haven't used the EDO software so I don't know how it is packaged, but
the simpler and more effective solution for backing up beta 7.8.0 is to
download the 7.8.0 package and then save it and back it up with all the

+1 that's what I do and also saving server packages for rollback . But
I've rarely had the need .

That leaves how to get the EDO app files and how to use the app

Especially if one considers that probably the fastest growing part of

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Help with NAS + Touch + iPhone

2012-06-27 Thread Zonker92

Just over a year later, I have a new Synbology DS212j NAS (1 TB x 2) and
I have loaded my music onto it (mostly ALAC).

As before, my Sonos ZP90 works fine on it, but as before, I'm curious to
try a Squeezebox Touch with the NAS.

Last time, I was having problems with getting the Touch and SBS to work
with my NAS (then a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo). I could not properly scan my
music files, and they kept pausing intermittently during playback.

But I think the Synology NAS can support the Logitech Media Server just
fine. And I hardwired my living room setup (where the NAS and Touch
will be) to my router to avoid any wi-fi problems.

Sooo before I buy another Touch, I thought I would index my
music on the NAS using the built-in Logitech Media Server. I ran the
scan and it took maybe three hours to scan 26,000+ music files (unlike
before, where it took days). The log only showed a few tagging
problems; nothing major. It all seemed good until it started scanning
my playlists.

now I have only maybe a dozen playlists (in iTunes) and zero playlists
in any other devices or applications, so this should have taken maybe
ten seconds, but instead it's taking an hour and showing over 7,300 ...
items (?) ... playlists (?) scanned, and it's hanging and I can't abort
it or access my music library using the LMS on my PC (desktop LMS
interface on the NAS).

What gives? Any ideas? It's basically just frozen, and now I can't
even load the LMS control panel on my desktop.

Any ideas? Thanks.

[SlimDevices: Touch] EQ (Inguz), client/server optimization, in search of decent fidelity

2012-06-27 Thread rawsted

[I hope this is the right sub-forum; if a mod reckons it's better suited
someplace else, feel free to move it!]

Hello,

I just recently purchased an SB Touch and my setup is as follows:

Squeezebox Server 7.5.4 - r32171 // FreeBSD 9 running on an HP
Microserver N40L
Squeezebox Touch Firmware 7.5.4-r9408

The Touch is configured for wifi on my 54g network, and it's hooked to
an analog stereo (Harmon Kardon HK3390) which is driving a pair of Polk
Audio TSi200s

Fairly shortly after getting everything set up, I did a comparison
between music played from the SB Touch and audio fed from my desktop
machine directly to the stereo (I have a ghastly RCA cable snaking
across my living room to one of the inputs) using foobar2000 and my
sound card's digital EQ presets; I fancied the sound of the latter.

I figured it was just the EQ and set about installing/configuring Inguz
DSP. I've got it to a point now where everything *seems* to be
functional (that is, no errors are being generated either in the
InguzDSP log file or the Squeezebox Server logs), but I hear no
appreciable difference whilst playing around with the settings. One
thing that does seem odd is, in the 'File Types' configuration page,
only 'Native' is selectable for the MP3 container format and codec,
while InguzDSP/* appears in other areas. To rule this out, I tried
playing some FLAC files (one of the file types for which InguzDSO/*
appears) while messing around with the EQ and, again, I couldn't discern
a difference.

My general query at this point is...what are my options? Is InguzDSP
broken for my device/versions? I read of another plugin, BrutefirDRC,
but it doesn't seem to work with the SB Touch unless one is dealing with
FLAC-only (I don't know that this is true, I read it on another forum
while searching around). Are there any other plugins which do EQ? Would
I be better off with a hardware solution?

And, it's sort of unrelated, but if there are any other plugins which
can increase sound fidelity, I'd like to try those as well. I stumbled
across SB Touch Toolbox - does anyone have an opinion of it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...I'm not an audiophile per se,
but I do want to get the most out of my setup, and I feel like I'm not
at the moment. Also be gentle with concepts/terminology, my
understanding of the fundamentals is tenuous at best, though I'm here to
learn.

Thanks,
rawsted

Thanky aubuti and Mnyb. However, maybe I am a bit slow, but still not
fully convinced. Do I understand you right: You just to store all the
files that are accessible over SSH the firmware as it is found on
http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.8.0/ and the server
files on http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.8 .

However, will this enable you to restore everything, if for some reason,
the update servers or whatever is on the internet are not accessible
through the touch? In particular, Firmware / Kernel, Installed Apps...?

What bothers me a bit is, that a factory reset does obviously only
revert settings and apps back to default, but not the firmware. So what
if a nightly firmware or an experimental Kernel messes up the touch, so
that the internal restore tool does not work anymore? How can the thing
be reinstalled from scratch?

As far as I understand, this is simply a piece of gear made to live as
long as Logitech supports it, and one has to live with that.
