Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] direct connection of ssd
All great information which I think has me nearly all the way there. OK - just to underline my ignorance again: If I understand correctly it is not possible to connect the Pi directly to the SBT? I should be able to connect the Pi with an ethernet cable to my router but the geography of my house is such that the SBT would have to connect over wi-fi. The SBT will be close to the wi-fi router and I would expect a strong and stable signal between them. Is this likely to impact performance and in particular sound quality? Finally, I hope! - I have approx. 500 CDs to rip and would like to optimise the audio quality. I would like the album art to be available on the SBT and for tracks from a CD to play in the correct order. I would also like to maximise the search capabilities of the LMS. So - what file format should I use, what ID tags should I include with what syntax and how should I set-up the folder structure? Slightly off-topic - My research has led me to this: https://geekworm.com/products/raspberry-pi-x820-v3-0-ssd-hdd-sata-storage-board-matching-metal-case-enclosure-power-control-switch-cooling-fan-kit which would appear to be a neat solution to the Pi and SSD setup. Do you think the fan is necessary? Or do you have any similar suggestions? And this seems to negate the use of the SBT altogether: https://shop.max2play.com/en/raspberry-pi-2-bundle-7-display.html Any thoughts? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Spotify times out on Squeezebox
Just this week, no matter what I do, I get an error message telling me that Spotify timed out trying to connect. AFAIK none of the old Spotify implementations would work any more (reliably). Do I need the Spotty app instead? Yes, that's the way to go. I'm running the server on an ancient laptop with Windows XP - is that the issue? That will be an issue for Spotty: it won't run on XP... I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do next. ANY help would be appreciated - thanks! If you can't get your laptop on to something more recent, then get a Raspberry Pi and run LMS on it instead of your Windows machine. -- Michael ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

[SlimDevices: Touch] Spotify times out on Squeezebox
Just this week, no matter what I do, I get an error message telling me that Spotify timed out trying to connect. I tried rebooting my laptop and the Squeezebox multiple times. No change. I reran the software update. Same. I reset to factory defaults. No change, either. I can still connect to the music on my hard drive with no problem. Do I need the Spotty app instead? Should I uninstall and reinstall Spotify? I'm running the server on an ancient laptop with Windows XP - is that the issue? I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do next. ANY help would be appreciated - thanks! You can also use that device as another player - then you need a audiocard. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] direct connection of ssd
Alan piCorePlayer OS and LMS on the sd card of the raspberrypi. SSD usb drive connected to raspberrypi (put your music files on it) raspberrypi connected to the shinbone, connected to the router (via Ethernet is preferable to wireless, I use flat cable) SBT connected to amp via phono outputs and to network via Ethernet or wireless. You can use a switch for both the pi and SBT. LMS controlled by computer, or app on tablet or 'phone. Use for a while (at least one or two 2 months) then decide if you want to change to either a dac-hat for the raspberrypi or use usb/spdif (on a pi-hat). Suggested equipment: raspberrypi 3B+ Official raspberry power supply Good quality, fast micro sd card, something like Sandisk Ultra (beware of fakes). Size of card: 8gb, if you can find one. ronnie It is possible to use the usb drive to both boot the pi and store your music files but KISS. grasshopper:p Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109528 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] direct connection of ssd
Many thanks to all who have replied. You've pretty much convinced me to go down the Pi route. Excuse my complete ignorance - a quick clarification then: I connect my SSD to a USB port on the Pi and connect the Pi USB to USB on the Touch? I see there is an add-in DAC available for the Pi. Is this essential or does the analogue audio out still work on the Touch?
