Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Random (shuffle) Genre play

2011-06-17 Thread Blazer

I had not yet discovered "random mix" on the Touch. Thanks for the
suggestion. That's pretty easy to select a single genre (or more) and
then back up one screen and press "song mix" to start playing. But what
are the other 4 choices on that page? For instance, does "album mix"
play all tracks of one album and then randomly select another album
from the selected genre list? Same for random artist and year?

Is "random mix" easier on system resources or give better performance
that using "shuffle" on a genre with a thousand or more tracks?

Thanks again...

prevent any problems?

Thanks

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] No track name, no album art

2011-02-23 Thread Blazer

I posted these problems a few months ago.

I have this problem with mine and believe it is related to my backup
software. When that backup software (CrashPlan) scans my PC to see if
something needs backing up, my Touch keeps playing but looses the
display data. I ussually get it corre ted by stopping the Touch, then
stopping and restarting the server software on my PC. Like you,
cometimes I have to restart the Touch by hitting the reset button or
just unplugging it.

Also, to prevent this from happening, I sometimes will pause (or put to
sleep) my backup software for a while before listening to my Touch.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Touch Screen Display - larger fonts?

I have resolved this issue by using a 15 foot pair of RCA interconnect
cables between the Touch and my Preamp. This allows me to use the Touch
(as a touch screen device) at my listening position. I can also use my
Blackberry to access the Squeezebox server wirelessly, but I prefer
using the Touch directly.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Poll - Do you actually use the touch screen?

2011-01-27 Thread Blazer

A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the
results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85129

Question: How Much do you use the touch screen?

- Never - IR, Android/I-device or Web Gui.
- I only use Touch Screen
- Occasionally.
- Half the time I use the touch screen.
- More touch screen than anything else?

I use my Touch as an "in house" portable music device. I stream music to
it from my desktop PC via the Squeezebox server application. I may have
the Touch setting right beside that desktop PC using some Grado
headphones, or on the front/back porch.

When I want to listen to my music in my "2 channel" sound room, I keep
a pair of 15 foot interconnect cables connected to a pre-amp input. I
just use those cables and keep the Touch beside me at my listening
position.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Blackberry and Touch

2011-01-12 Thread Blazer

I have my Blackberry 9800 working with my Touch. Now I can use my
blackberry to control my touch over my home network. I just use the
Blackberry web browser and web site

http://[myserverip]:9000/handheld

The text is a little small but I can zoom in on my blackberry so it's
pretty good. Questions...

1) Where exactly is this web page?
2) Is it part of the Squeezebox Server application loaded on my desktop
PC?
3) I can change the "interface" setting, (using the Blackberry or
desktop PC) but when I do, the new interface is displayed on my desktop
PC, but I always get the same "interface" (or skin) on my Blackberry. Is
that because of the "/handheld" part of the above web URL?
4) If I remove the "/handheld" will I then get the different
"interfaces" (skins) on my blackberry?
5) When using the Blackberry and playing intenet radio, the screen
refreshes every few seconds. This does not happen when palying my
music. What could be causing this constant refreshing?

Thanks...

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Help with 'now playing' screen locking up please!

2011-01-08 Thread Blazer

I have a similar problem with my Touch. My "now playing" screen not only
locks up, but it stops displaying the song info, but the music keeps
playing. It only happens periodically. I can sometimes fix it by
hitting the reset button on the back. But sometimes, I have to
stop/start the Squeezebox server on my PC to get the Touch working
correctly again.

I think I have narrowed my problem down to my backup software. It seems
to happen when that software scans my hard drive for changes. If I
disable my backup software (CrashPlan) while listening to the Touch, I
do not have that problem.

[SlimDevices: Touch] controlling a Touch with a wireless laptop...

2011-01-06 Thread Blazer

I use my Touch to stream FLAC files from my PC to my stereo system,
which is running the Squeezebox server application. The PC is in
another room.

Can I leave those FLAC files on the PC (in the another room) but use a

I:

1) need to install the server software on the laptop?
2) or just use a certain web site?

Any tips for this?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Newbie file questions...

2010-12-29 Thread Blazer

Since you are in the "Dark Ages"...

1) You do not have to convert (rip) your CDs to FLAC. We do that so the
the music takes up less space on our hard drives. (about 40% less space)
You could simply copy them in their native WAV file format and stream
them to your Touch. They will simply take up more room on your hard
drive.

2) FLAC is just one of several "lossless" compression formats. (codecs)
Lossless means that no music is actually lost in the conversion. Others
are Apple's ALAC, and Window's WMAL.

3)You could simply use iTunes and rip CDs to ALAC files for your Touch
or use Windows Media Player and rip your CDs to WMAL files for your
Touch. To use rip to FLAC, you need a different application (many free
ones) like dbpoweramp to accomplish this.

4) There is no difference in sound quality between these lossless
types.

5) FLAC is preferred by many because it is not proprietary. What if you
end up with 3000 CDs converted to Apple's ALAC files and a few years
from now, Apple decides that you have to pay them for that???

6) As stated above, you could also just use Windows Media Player (or
other software) and convert CDs to a "lossy" codec like MP3s. Lossy
codecs take up even less space but actually loose some of the music
data, so they may not sound as good. This lossy format has several
different compression options like 64, 128, 256 or 320 kbs. If you Rip
to the higher ones like 256 or 320, you may not notice a great deal of
difference (or any) between those and a lossless codec like FLAC. This
depends on your ears, the engineering of the music, and the resolving
power of your stereo system.

7) You could do some experimenting... If you have a PC, simply use
Windows Media Player and rip a couple of CDs to MP3s at 320kb/s and
also to lossless WMAL. Then you can stream them to your Touch/stereo
and see if you can tell a difference. Or if you have a MAC, just use
iTunes and rip to MP3s and ALAC.

Good luck...

[SlimDevices: Touch] Touch... reboot loop!

2010-12-03 Thread Blazer

Last night while jumping around some internet radio stations... My Touch
suddenly rebooted but would not come up. I would get the black screen
with the Logitech Logo, then the blue screen with the "discover your
music" then back to the logo screen, and so on...

I pulled the power for a minute and when plugged back in, it did it
again. So then I held in the reset button to get back to factory
defauts. It then displayed a screen about rebooting and asking if I
wanted to send error info to Logitech. I sleected yes and then all was
well. SCARY!

Anyone else ever get stuck in this reboot loop?

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] A touch remote?

2010-12-02 Thread Blazer

I have a pair of 15 foot RCA interconnect cables using Mogami Quad Mic
cable. When I want to use the Touch in my sound room, I just connect it
(from my listening position) to my preamp with these cables. I have the
Touch AC plugged into an outlet beside me, and the long interconnects
running accross the floor to my preamp. This gives me all of the
convenience of the touch screen and it sounds great! When done
listening, I simply unplug the RCA interconnects from the Touch and
leave the Touch on the table beside my listening position. The long
interconnects are looped and hang on the side of my stereo cabinet when
not in use.

[SlimDevices: Touch] metadata editor recommendation

I'm only 10 days into using my Touch. I have converted my small CD
collection (arround 300) to FLAC using dbpoweramp's ripper. During the
process (prior to each rip) I did some editing of the metadata that
dbpoweramp found. However, I would like to do some post ripping tag
editing. I see no way to do this with the dbpoweramp applications.
(that I paid $38 for) What are some good FLAC tag editing programs for
me to consider? Thanks...
