i would NOT buy something like that...
That becomes very soon another pile in the electronik trashcan..

Openwrt recommended 128 MB or more right now.
Even the very 1st rpis got 256 MB RAM and something like rasbian with

Your logfile isnt helpful, its made after a reinstall not after the
issue happens.

And then the more items on the left side matches the lack of a player on
the right side.
After that player is active again, the settings that you choose for not
showing different settings menues for this player are also back again.

A logfile after the crash | cant find the boxes is needed not after a
fresh install.

No - to use a more up2date lms with your touch you only need a lms
somewhere - eg. on something like the pi.
You can also use that device as another player - then you need a
audiocard.

Its a bit more complicated...

When Logitech build "new" Squeezeboxes they also did a job to involve
NAS builders to add LMS into their NAS. Most of the NASses (that supoort
some LMS) cant use the outofthebox Version/Paket from LMS direct - so
you need a NAS that has Power and supports the actual Updates.
Since Logitech pull the plug most (afaik all of them) need new LMS
Pakets and the only way to get them is 3rd Party updates from some
customers here. (Take a look to some Threads)

*BUT* If you spend some time to rip & Tag your Stuff, a NAS is always
the WAY to go for Backups and you can/should also put your Photos
there.

SO "my" Tipp is - get your Touch running, add some small PC/Rpi2(3) to
run LMS and if you want a backup device go for a NAS (depends if your
able to built your "own" or buy some.)
I would prefer something thats opensource in case the supplier pull the
plug you can alter it.

"cheap" - if you take that word from me - was the wrong word.. in i put
it into "brakets" for a reason.
Its low price and that didnt mean its bad|cheap if cheap is the name for
something you never would buy again even when its small budget cause it
wont do the job or didnt run a long time.

There is always a reason for things like that.
When i described that "cheap" there is a system behind that - in a Prof.
IT Environment you do not want external powersupplies you want internal
redundant (two) power supplies with less connections as you can get -
cause they can be unplugged by accident. And you want devices without
heat hotspots cause of your air cooling system runs better with defined
heat hotspots. You even dont want to have the fat powerplugs/converter
cause the stuff is powered by uninterruptible power supplys. And the
just have IEC (power) connectors. You dont want nothing from that in
your home.

In a Home environment you dont want a router|switch|whatever with a fat
cable and a (pair of) fans.

Hmm if its untwisted (looks like) than its per defintion not a cat5
cable.
If its not a cat5 cable what definition should you set in your proper
cable tester?

I 've seen such cable that was in the box of one of my 3com pcmcia card
an even if it looks like untwisted it was twisted.
So its really hard to tell.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Ethernet Cable

2015-12-17 Thread DJanGo

Let me explain something

you have no advantage using 100 octane fuel on your scooter.
You should use 100 octane fuel on your highoutput car/Motorcycle (if the
compression is that high that you need that stuff)

You should always use the things for the reason they have been made
designed for.

Always use something like Cat5 for your home equipment.
Cause most of all is "cheap" stuff made for home small office.

In a Server Environment there is a complete other situation - eg. all
Hardware is powered by internal powersupplies / Converter and everything
is grounded not only cause the Rack is grounded even all power cords
uses 3 separate cables to deliver alternating current to the Device.
In this scenario you should always use shielded versions of the cable.

In a Home Environment - where most of your equipment is powered by
external power converters that only delivers direct current to the
devices and no earth - you should use unshielded Versions of the Cable.

It does not matter if your using higher specs than needed but it does
matter not to use lower specs than needed or faulty cables (then they
didnt match any specs).

Take a carefully look:
[image: http://www.gepanet.com/strukturierte-verkabelung.png]

All pairs have different twists and these twist are made for a reason -
no pulse overlapping between the transmit and recieve lines.

Your question was a bit flimsy and i answered the best way i can do.

Why are you so ...

You (or someone tolds you) that you want something better than you have
already.
Why do you ask here which solution is the best for you when you can
choose one of two @your home by yourself?

::IF:: there is a difference - why dont buy both cables and try both
ways out and decide whats your best connection?

btw: some carriage returns between some chars are always welcome - and
they are cheap as well.

LMS is case Sensitive.

Yazoo and YAZOO arent the same.

LMS gets the Info from the id3 Tags.
Please search a id3 tagger for your Mainsystem like eyed3 for linux or

After a clear and rescan your duplicates should be gone.

can't be all that difficult can it?

Hmm...

If you think its easy (without knowing how to code ) and you think i am
not helpful to write down it isnt that easy and i would choose another
way - may thats correct.

Again you have a workaround (home device in a car) and use another 3rd
party ir thingy and another powercircuit to not let the workaround
shutdown and thats why you need another workaround. The easy way you
cant go cause of you need another (wlan mobile device) workaround to
handle some other things

None of the less you using the build in lms from the touch.

Go to egay buy yourself a ipad 1 forget the steering volume thing (that
must be look ugly if its not a device with the steering wheel) and put
your lib to that ipad tablet.

You wrote you have no cash to spend but in germany we have a phrase

What?
I always read volume control question but in fact your car has a issue
with a (not build anymore) HOME Device cause it uses WLAN.

Go to your cardealer ask him about WLAN and your Alarm Issue.

No Bumps please

Why not choosen the simplest Way?

Use terminal 15 [powered only with ignition] instead of terminal 30
[powered alltimes]?

Thats a basic princip of IP Network - the bridge acts as a router and
since he knows the mac for all his attached devices he answerd with
his mac adress.
Otherwise no system that uses the bridge would connect to an not
connected to the bridge/router.

system mac address -bridge/router mac address [arp table] - connected
system.

if i want to talk to system x i had to tell the router he answers and
route the question to system x and thats why system x has the mac of
the router/bridge in your arp cache.

And again dont change /etc/hostname until you really know what your
doing !

quite easy...
Just use the 24/7 System that you got as a dns Server tell them the ip
xyz has name blablub and everything you dont knew ask 8.8.8.8 (google
dns).
Set your dhcp server to use your new dns server when a new ip is
given.
Then change on the Systems with static ips the new dns Server.

Do a nslookup name and smile. ;-)

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Can a router networked USB hard drive be used as SBT NAS

2014-02-04 Thread DJanGo

Hi
simple sily answer

N O you didnt wanna do that.

remember a router is a part of your security system - adding 3rd party
Software like LMS or something adds the security holes from these 3rd
party apps directly to your router. so you dont wanna do that.
And - a router is designed as a lowcost system that acts primarly as a
router (otherwise the router manufactuer would ask for some more money
and sell it as consumer pc - some routers have 256 mb Ram some have 512
and even 512 is a bit 2 small for a LMS Server)

Even if a Hacker (the real Version of a Hacker - that wants just hack
a system to show or use it cause he wants it therefor) may can do this -
its not for the other ones (eg. a non geek)

Remember i just talking about real Hackers not these scriptkiddies or
Cracker (most people know there is a big difference between these groups
and called all geeks hacker.

buy a raspi or a wandboard and use that as a LMS - didnt need much power
- you also can power the raspi from the usb port of your router (if t+it
has a usb port for a disk)
But dont think a Pi is a fast Server - if you find out its not buy some
usb dac an use the pi as a player.

 rescan.

please take a look to the webfrontend.

sorry didnt understand that... the right side from webfrontend is the

In my opinion you 1st had to fix the tags and after that scan them.

DMH wrote:
How long would it take to delete the old files and 'rescan everything'?
Thats a good question the Answer depend on how fast is your LMS Server
- how the Files are connected to the Server - and what kind of Files to
scan.

But if you spend some time to tag your lib the more fun you get out of
it.:rolleyes::cool:

hatschi,

this is the wrong place...

File and sharing permissions have less to do with the rights on a file
itself.

when lms is on the same system as the files and lms path to the file
isnt starting with \\server\share then the sharerights have nothing to
do at all ;-)

There are rights for the smb (or whatever) share and there are file
permissions on the Filesystem.
Be shure to give lms the rights for the filesystem not for the share.

* chgrp
* chmod
* ls-l
are the tools you should use

Yeah - maybe you dont get an answer cause of the lack of info?

Anyways a 502 or bad gateway is an issue of your Network - means there
is no or a false gateway in on of your systems and thats the reason
why.
Logical if there is a bug in your networksettings and you want your
system to get an answer outside your private system it should always
answer with 502.

OK!?
