Its a bit more complicated...

When Logitech build "new" Squeezeboxes they also did a job to involve
NAS builders to add LMS into their NAS. Most of the NASses (that supoort
some LMS) cant use the outofthebox Version/Paket from LMS direct - so
you need a NAS that has Power and supports the actual Updates.
Since Logitech pull the plug most (afaik all of them) need new LMS
Pakets and the only way to get them is 3rd Party updates from some
customers here. (Take a look to some Threads)

*BUT* If you spend some time to rip & Tag your Stuff, a NAS is always
the WAY to go for Backups and you can/should also put your Photos
there.

SO "my" Tipp is - get your Touch running, add some small PC/Rpi2(3) to
run LMS and if you want a backup device go for a NAS (depends if your
able to built your "own" or buy some.)
I would prefer something thats opensource in case the supplier pull the
plug you can alter it.
