Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Replacement linear power supply options
Thanks for the other power supply links. Turns out, as noted elsewhere, if not using the USB input, 2.5 A is sufficient to fully power the Touch and I.R. sensor. I tried my old Elpac WM075-1950 linear power supply (5W 2.5A, used elsewhere with an SB3) works perfectly. [SlimDevices: Touch] Replacement linear power supply options
I need a new Touch A/C adapter to "fix" my remote control sensing issue, as noted in another thread. Rather than buying another OEM adapter, I'd prefer to get a medical grade linear power supply (vs. one of the $250+ audiophile grade ones). I found this Inventus (formerly Elpac) linear supply which I believe has the proper barrel plug... https://www.mouser.com/productdetail/inventus-power/mwa020005a-10a?qs=sGAEpiMZZMs1jjUfAXmXylf2QqrovnqXv3Nm0V6T%2FZI%3D However, it puts out 4A at 5V, vs. the OEM Logitech 3A at 5V. My vague electrical knowledge says this would be OK, as the Touch will only "pull" the current it needs. However, I want to confirm that this linear power supply won't "brick" my Touch when I plug it in. If this particular linear supply won't work, please recommend another Inventus/Elpac model. main system: touch > bel canto dac 3.5vb > conrad-johnson ct-5 preamp and premier 350 amp > ml expressions. audience au24e cables. secondary systems elsewhere in home: 1- boom, 2- sb3's, and 2- sb radio's. member of the 'suncoast audiophile society' (http://www.meetup.com/suncoast-audiophile-society/) sleepysurf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108551 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] External DAC for Touch Advice?
Depending upon the speakers you're using with your NAD receiver, you may or may not, notice a significant improvement with an outboard DAC. If you have a highly resolving setup, it might be worth the effort. Previously, I used a Benchmark DAC-1 with my Touch, and it was slightly better than the Touch alone. However, I've since upgraded to a Bel Canto DAC 3.5VB, which is MUCH better, albeit at a much higher price point. Fortunately, I have a high-end setup with very resolving electrostatic speakers, so it was a no-brainer for me. Regardless, the fact that a $3500 DAC could take the Touch to a new level is further proof of how good a bit-perfect streamer it is! main system: touch bel canto dac 3.5vb conrad-johnson ct-5 preamp and premier 350 amp ml summits. audience au24e cables. secondary systems: sb3 in master br (russound r235ls amp driving in-ceiling speaker) and game room (powered swan s200a speakers), with boom in home office. member of the 'suncoast audiophile society' (http://www.meetup.com/suncoast-audiophile-society/) sleepysurf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=100028 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

[SlimDevices: Touch] Touch review in Octobers TAS!
Looks like -all- the high-end mags are now jumping on the Touch bandwagon! Just got my October issue of The Absolute Sound, and Steven Stone has a very favorable review of the Touch, including a superb comparison of the Duet vs. Touch, and also comparing the Touch digital into his Meridian DAC vs. his Meridian 598 CD transport. Overall, he states that the Touch audio performance (particularly with digital out to a capable DAC) definitely qualifies it as a legitimate high-end component, even moreso with 24/96 tracks. Also, unlike some other recent online Touch reviews, Mr. Stone nicely articulates the pros/cons of wired/wireless playback from remote libraries using Squeezebox Server, vs. direct USB sourced tracks, and also mentions that 3rd party remote control apps are also available. Overall, an extremely well-written and informative review. Ironically, this month's TAS cover is titled -The Analog Issue-! Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Adjusting text size
The very limited visibility of the Touch from beyond 8-9 ft is a MAJOR oversight (pun intended). The color screen, improved digital (and analog) sound quality, plus 24/96 capability, is all overshadowed by the fact that I cannot clearly see the screen from my sweet spot listening position, which is 12' away. I've ordered a longer coax cable and will try moving the Touch a couple feet closer, and see if that helps.
