Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch and NAS
I got it today, and I have to say: this is an amazing device! Setting it up was a breeze. I connected it to my Home Theater system: a flagship Pioneer receiver and Axiom speakers. I connected it to my network through ethernet cable and it started to work right away. I was able to connect it to my NAS Apple Lossless music files via my old laptop and the Logitech Media Server installed on it. It worked great, great quality of music and no buffering or playback stops. Very happy with the setup! Thank you for all your help guys and for your suggestions. The setup is fine for now. I will certainly look in the future to add other devices in my setup, possibly a NAS (or other device you have suggested) with SB server built in, an external DAC and so on. -- thyname thyname's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52161 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92214 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

SBs like to live in packs. LOL!!! I already have a SB Radio for over two years now, and my SB Touch is scheduled to come tomorrow (Thursday). I actually worked on your earlier suggestion yesterday: I installed my SB server on my old laptop, opened iTunes on it, pointing it to my Apple Lossless file on my NAS. It worked and I was able to access my music on that machine's itunes. I then scanned/pointed SB Server software to NAS through Library tab/Media source, and did a rescan through advanced tab. I checked out my SB Radio and my music on NAS was all there. I played a few tracks off it with no problems. Logically, this setup should work on my new SB Touch when it arrives tomorrow. I will keep you updated. -- thyname thyname's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52161 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92214 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I am getting my SB Touch for a total of $209, it does not make sense to spend double or more of that on something to support my sB touch. Thanks anyway. I will keep it in my toys to be purchased list :-) -- thyname thyname's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52161 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92214 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch and NAS
Aubuti and Pascal: Thanks for your replies, detailed instructions and your help. I will initially try to use the SB Touch via my old macbook pro with 120 gb hard disk as a server and my D-Link DNS-321 as a storage. I hope it will work. I will try this as soon as I get my SB Touch in the mail. Those ReadyNAS machines look great, but too expensive for me at this point. I will try the solution above first. Thanks again! I will keep you updated if interested. -- thyname thyname's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52161 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92214 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
[SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch and NAS
I just ordered a new SB Touch. Very excited!! While I wait for it to come in the mail, I was wondering if anybody knows from experience whether it will work with my D-Link DNS-321 network attached storage (NAS)? I have around 5000 tracks in my NAS and my laptop in apple lossless ripped from my CDs, and would be great if I was able to stream them from my NAS to my new SB touch without turning on my laptop. Can the squeezebox server be installed there? I appreciate the help!! -- thyname thyname's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52161 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92214 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

This one in particular is not encouraging: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73531 , especially taking into account that raven22 is one of the more knowledgeable users around here when it comes to getting LMS running on D-Link NASs. In addition, transcoding of Apple lossless doesn't work on the Touch, so it has to be transcoded on the server. That would put additional strain on the DNS-321 that it probably can't handle. In my opinion you would be better off using an inexpensive, low-power pc as a music server. You can run it headless, like a NAS. Thanks for the reply. I thought about using my old machine that is sitting around doing nothing. The problem is it has a total capacity of 120 GB while my music in apple lossless format in my NAS occupies around 300 gb. -- thyname thyname's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52161 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92214 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

aubuti;676100 Wrote: Not a problem. You can run LMS on the old machine that is sitting around, and keep your music library on the NAS. LMS has no problem accessing a music library on a network drive. That's exactly what my first Squeezebox server set up looked like 6 years ago. I assume the old machine has to be connected to my wi-fi network, right? That was your setup 6 years ago? What is NOW like? -- thyname thyname's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=52161 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92214 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
