Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Albums Correctly Tagged With MP3tag Don't Show Artists
Hi there, maybe this is already somewhere in the forum. If so please apologize that I didnt use the right keywords to find. I have a strange Sorting and maybe you can give me a hint to solve it. I lately tagged albums of The Brothers Johnson (Right On Time; Strawberry Letter 23 (Live); The very best of Strawberry Letter 23) with Mp3tag (v2.53). Similar columns in Mp3tag are: Tag = FLAC (FLAC) Artist = The Brother Johnsons I didnt use the Albumartist Column. Afterwards I uploaded the 3 albums to my Syno NAS (running on DSM 4.1), started LMS (7.7.2 - r33893) and start the scanning (maybe Im a bit paranoid here but I always do the rescans of Media Folder and Rescan Media Library). After that Ill check under Home New Music if they appear and if the cover is correctly added. But in this case the sorting of the artists puzzles me: The very best of Strawberry Letter 23 is sort as Brothers Johnsons, The Strawberry Letter 23 (Live) is sort as Brothers Johnson. Right On Time is sort as The Brothers Johnson. I didnt include the article The in the section Articles To Ignore When Sorting therefore I dont know why I have 3 different results here. Dontt know if this is important but my Touch is running on Firmware 7.7.2-r9663 Any clues here? I would really appreciate if somebody could share his findings. Thanks in advance. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Albums Correctly Tagged With MP3tag Don't Show Artists
I'm almost certain these files have ARTISTSORT or ALBUMARTISTSORT tags. Download mp3tag, open files in mp3tag, select a file, right click, then select 'extended tags'. This will show you tags that you may not realize you have (including above). You can simply delete those tags at this point by selecting the field and hitting the red X in the extended tags popup. You can load up ALL your files and do a batch delete of this field if you choose. garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97793 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Albums Correctly Tagged With MP3tag Don't Show Artists
Hi garym, thanks for you quick respond andfor the solution :-) You were absolutely right. Although I didn´t fill out the column album artist something else were shown via the extended tags. Beneath album artist there was also the tag Ensemble which lead to this problem of mine. After deleting those tags only the artist The Brothers Johnson appears in LMS. I´ll keep this in mind to crosscheck the extended tags in the future. So thanks again for your immediate help. happy it solved the issue. p.s. Is this the Brothers Johnson, the 1970s funk band? I had one of their albums on vinyl back in the day if that's the same band. garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97793 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Albums Correctly Tagged With MP3tag Don't Show Artists
^ That's a very good point. Normal LMS settings will suppress artists in the artist list if they only appear on a compilation. So if you have one Bob Dylan album and it happens to have an incorrect COMPILATION=1 tag, it will keep the artist from being displayed. Use the Extended Tags dialog (Alt-T) to view all tag fields (which may not all be shown either in the Tag Panel or file view within Mp3tag). Also, LMS will automatically treat any album that has more than one artist on different tracks as a compilation. If just one track on that album has either a different artist or a second artist, the album would be treated as a compilation and none of the artists will appear in the list unless they also have a full album in your library. Note that you could even have 'Bob Dylan' misspelled on a single track and it will look to LMS like a second artist on the album. If you do purposely have tracks on the album tagged with another artist, then add an ALBUMARTIST=Bob Dylan field and the album will once again be considered a non-compilation. Edited to add: The Dylan albums do show Bob Dylan as the artist but there is no Bob Dylan in the list of artists. Totally wierd. Hi You sound like you have been having the same problem that I was having. In addition to ripping my music collections I also like to rip audiobooks. I like to record the reader (Artist) and the author (Album Artist). I was frustrated to find that I could search on the reader but not on the author until I amended the settings under Advanced Settings/My Music and select the option Treat TPE2 MP3 tag as Album Artist. Select this option and then select Clear library and rescan and you should be able to search on both. This works regardless of whether the file format is flac or mp3. I doubt that is the issue as I suggested that the OP remove all tags except for ARTIST, ALBUM, TRACK, TITLE. (i.e., no Album Artist or BAND tag). And he had the same problem. (This said, I too have my settings to treat TPE2 as Album Artist). garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97793 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Examples are Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. The artist and album artist fields for those albums have only the one name entered in them. As mentioned, the albums are recognized by LMS and a search for the artists does find the artist, e.g. Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen; yet those artists do not appear under Artists in LMS Web Remote Control or on the Squeezebox screen when I select Artists. jdt7385's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56306 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97793 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Albums Correctly Tagged With MP3tag Don't Show Artists
Try using ALBUMARTIST instead of ALBUM ARTIST. BTW, for most popular music you don't even need this tag value; just use ARTIST and leave these other fields blank. The SORT tags are only used if you want to specify a list sort position different from the way the tag is normally displayed, e.g. you want Bob Dylan to appear in Artist sort under Dylan, Bob: ARTIST=Bob Dylan ARTISTSORT=Dylan, Bob Add the TAGS column to your Mp3tag display and be sure it only shows FLAC (FLAC). If any other type of tag is also in the files, it should be removed as this will cause strange behavior. Should I instead add a field of ALBUM ARTIST in the extended field section? I did add the TAGS column to the MP3TAG display and so far all entries do only show FLAC (FLAC). jdt7385's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=56306 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97793 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
