Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Rebuffering problem since recent update
WiFi was just a guess as a potential issue. Don't know what to tell you or how to resolve your issue. Using TinySBS or full SBS feeding 4 synced players playing 320k internet streams I cannot duplicate your buffering problem. :( -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87568 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Who talked about WiFi ? My Touch is wired and has always been ... This is not SBS the culprit, it is the suqeezebox software family. SBS, TinySBS, Touch firmware. I read some astonishing comments from developpers in bugzilla, don't remember which bug, saying something like "if there is a drop in the stream, the wise option is to stop playing ..." ! It was corrected, but how can someone seriously say something like that ? As I already said, it seems to me that the problem is the following. - If the stream source is very good, no problem - If the stream source has some dropouts (it can occur and this is normal), this is very nicely handled and barely noticeable with all softwares I tried like foobar, vlc, mediamonkey etc ..., but it is awful with squeezeboxes products having more than 10 seconds rebuffering or simply stopping. -- nicolas75 nicolas75's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15823 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87568 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Well, if it is having the same issues while connected to MySB.com, then SBS server is not likely the culprit. Best I can suggest is to try the Touch wired, see if that solves the issue. Then you know there is a WiFi issue. What is the Touch's WiFi signal strength? Can you play music from your own library without such buffering? I thought this was fixed in 7.6, but the problems I had with 7.5.3 are apparently back with recent 7.6 versions -- nicolas75 nicolas75's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15823 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87568 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Yes, now try the Touch connected directly to MySB.com (no computer), see if it streams correctly without buffering. I simultaneously play 320k streams to 4 SB players including Touch without issue. Sometimes Synced, sometimes 4 unique streams. Connected to both SBS and MySB.com. It even works using the Touch's inbuilt TinySBS server. All work fine on my SBS 7.5.4 on XP. Point is, I think there must be more at play here than just SBS itself. But just a guess. :) -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87568 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

tested again with computer and Touch connected to the same router with excellent internet wired connection. - radio stream fine with foobar - I often have "connection reset by local host" or "connection reset by remote host" on the Touch, and Touch stops playing. As usual, I have tried to connect directly to those streams from my computer with foobar or vlc. This way, you may have some rare dropouts, less than one second. With the Touch I now often have rebuffering, stopping music for more than 10 seconds, or simply totally stops it until you manually reconnect. If 7.6 is now the same nightmare 7.5.3 and 7.5.4 were, this is not good news. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Rebuffering problem since recent update
Same problem here. It usually occurs after half an hour or so of listening, and then the only solution is to hard reboot the Touch. Otherwise, the rebuffering continues with pauses of typically 20+ seconds, interspersed with ~1 second bursts of music. And yes, it does occur with mp3s as well - yesterday I experienced a rebuffering pause of several minutes in the middle of an mp3 track. Server version: Latest 7.5.5 nightly (I switched from the official 7.5.4 to see if there was any improvement - there wasn't). Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Rebuffering problem since recent update
Yep the touch does suffer random rebuffering. I've seen it happen a few times, it will be playing an mp3 and then stop, display the rebuffering text, then after 20 seconds or so, it will then say buffering failed (or similar) and then immediately start playing again where it left off. There are no error messages in the logs and it happens randomly sometimes it doesn't happen for days, but sometimes it will be playing and it will happen every hour or so. Pretty annoying but I have no idea how it can be fixed, this is cat5e cabled, 7.5.4 SBS. Cheers -- cparker www.spicefly.com - Spicefly SugarCube - Taking Squeezebox and MusicIP to the next level. I already added an Wifi access point directly next to the Touch just for testing, and then no rebuffering occurs. But that's not the point I'm trying to make. What use is the networking test if it shows constantly 100 % at 2000 kbps, if then the stream cannot be kept up at that speed. My reasoning is, that with the same signal strength and with the same bandwidth it used to work and now it doesn't anymore. If my Wifi got worse or a neighbour installed an interfering Wifi, then I'd expect the network test to show this problem by dropping down in performance and not giving me 100 % anymore. But this is not the case. That's why I'm suspecting a change in firmware or server code. Of course the problem does not kick into effect when playing back MP3 or Ogg Vorbis because of the lower bandwidth necessary. But when playing back FLAC in 16 or 24 bit, then the problem occurs. However, as I mentioned, the network test page almost never drops below 100 %, even for 2000 kbps (there's no higher value to test, otherwise I'd try even higher bandwidths). Regarding "sources", I only play back from my local Squeezebox Server on a Debian box, using 7.5 nightlies. [SlimDevices: Touch] Rebuffering problem since recent update
Hi all, I'm a happy owner of a Touch (and a Boom) since they came out and I have never in the past had any of the rebuffering issues people are reporting here from time to time, never! Since a recent upgrade of the Touch firmware (not sure which revision though, I'm now at 7.5.4-r9408, running 7.5 Debian nightlies as server) those rebuffering issues have started for me as well. The Touch is connected via Wifi network with signal strength of between 70 and 80 % as reported by the Diagnosis screen (this has not changed from the past). Network test screen shows constantly 100 % even at 2000 kbps (with a negligible amount at only 90 %). So I am not really convinced that the network is the problem (as it quite certainly wasn't in the past). I know that I have no control over Wifi networks, but no new Wifi networks are detected in the neighbourhood. I did not change anything in mine. Do other people experience these rebuffering issues since a recent Touch firmware update as well or is it just my environment?
