Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Remote connection to my hard disk became impossible

2021-05-14 Thread KiserWatch

Maybe you should change the software you use? Maybe you need a lot more
RAM for remote control than you thought, and you have different
difficulties connecting to someone else's server? Think about it. I have
the same problem. And I also had low-quality software. I tried to do it
from a free source, with low quality of the transmitted screen and with
poor synchronization speed. It was terrible. It is better to find a
cheap RDP and use it than to suffer on a free and low-quality one. Tell
me if I helped you.

SMB1 is disabled by default for security reasons. I don't know what the
security risks are, but you can easily enable SMB1 as follows...

- click on the search icon in the taskbar and type Turn windows features
on or off. Open the Control Panel menu and scroll to SMB then click the
server and client boxes. Restart might be necessary.
You can now map your drive in file explorer. I have then gone back to
the SMB menu and disabled SMB1. The mapped drive remains functional
after disabling SMB1.

Hi Paul,
that's working quite as I expected. Still looking for mapping a drive,
but I'm able to synchronize a folder, what is my goal. :)

Thank you Paul

Why not ? In fact, in the FAQ, the developpers said that they didn’t
write a function to map a distant disk.
So, I gave up with winSCP
But the « synchronize » button sounds pretty well, could be my answer.

By the way, I’m going away from my Touch for 2-3 weeks. I’ll perform
some tests when I’m come back.
I’ll give you some news at that time, and maybe quote « Solved »:o:o

Thank you

you're right... Windows 10 version 1909 (up to date)
I have the same trouble on my laptop and my office PC...

Maybe could you help me please getting around the problem that way :
Knowing that winSCP is able to establish the connection to the Touch (so
the connection is possible),
and that my goal is to map a virtual disk on the Touch disk ( I want to
have a new disk under Windows, let's say S:\ pointing to
\\192.168.1.3\media\sda1\.. my music folders when I open it), let's
give up with Windows directly...

would you know a tool, able to perform that task ?

You did not say which version of Windows you are using.
If it is one of the ones listed at

But still unsuccessful to establish a connection to the client
Squeezebox Touch

But I'm sure you're on the right way... it's a question of protocol on

When you're suspecting a connectivity issue on the Windows side, one of
the first things to check is that Windows recognized your network as a
private network instead of public. On Windows, see
Settings->Network->Status.

Also - you might have to enable older SMB protocols for the client on
your Windows machine.

That might not make much sense ... but take a look at the section
titled
"How to detect status, enable, and disable SMB protocols on the SMB
Client"
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/file-server/troubleshoot/detect-enable-and-disable-smbv1-v2-v3

If that resolves it then it might be that MS have updated a setting on
your Windows PC while you were asleep and it stopped things working.

thank you Paul, I've read th whole discussion (I even changed my group
name to WORKGROUP, good idea I thought)
but it's not working as it used to work.

I guess it's a Windows side problem, because winSCP succeeds in
displaying the tree on 192.168.1.3 (I can even download a music file
this way)
Why not Windows ?? I'm not gifted enough in networks to answer...

yes, but the Touch displays its IP address is 192.168.1.3 (it changed
you're right with the new router/box ), but I try to connect my laptop
with that new one.
AND winSCP succeeds in displaying the folders tree, which shows that the

[SlimDevices: Touch] Remote connection to my hard disk became impossible

2021-04-10 Thread philippe320

Hi everybody,

I have a Touch, connected to an usb hard disk (I’ve read that some
people have troubles with that configuration but it’s working great with
me)
With your advice, a few years ago, I succeeded in establishing a
connection to my hard disk from my laptop, in order to add some music
folders, or saving my database, without unpluging the disk, with
something like :
http://192.168.1.3/media etc etc
I succeeded also to map a drive under windows ( S:\ became the root of
the Touch disk, very easy to synchronize my disk copy)

Recently, still reading your great forum, I succeeded in upgrading the
firmware of my Touch (because LMS on the Touch was unable to start after
a change of the box from my ISP)
And now, I’m unable to connect my laptop to the disk : Time Out error,
no response from the distant server.
By the way, I’m unable to map a drive under windows.

BUT, it’s ok with WinSCP : with root and 1234, I can remotely see the
folder tree of the Touch disk... so the connection is ok. So my
kaspersky firewall is not blocking anything (as far as I understand
firewalls)

What can I do to access my disk like I used to do ?

Thanks very much for your interest (sorry for all the english language
mistakes ...)
Philippe

Should be ok with that firmware, version 8.0.1 r16817 was the one that
removed TinySC.

My firmware is the 7.8.0-r16754
Ok with your explanation, BUT I can establish the connection the inbuilt

If you've installed the recent community firmware, I'm afraid this
removes the Touch's inbuilt server. Which firmware is the Touch now
running?

I'm not sure if there's a way to go back to an earlier firmware,
