Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Ah the lovely Squeezebox Touch - it has returned to the fold
To get the latest community f/w you need to go into LMS>Settings>Advanced>Community Firmware and check the box. It can take up to 24 hours for the f/w to appear and you will need to reboot the Touch when it will offer to install the latest. Latest f/w is 8.0.1-r16835 which you can check from within LMS>Players. Follow these instructions carefully if you are going to upgrade: -To simplify installation of the new firmware, Michael has created a plugin for LMS which redirects the firmware update check and download to my alternate site. It's available in the 3rd Party Plugin section of the LMS Settings->Plugins tab. After installaton and an LMS restart, navigate to Settings->Advanced->Community Firmware for Touch/Radio/Controller and click the checkbox to enable the redirection. You MUST be running LMS 8.0.1 or newer to install the plugin. piCorePlayer requires LMS 8.0.1-1608617100 from December 22, 2020 or newer. Once enabled, it can take up to the duration set in the LMS Software Updates setting, which by default is 24 hours, before the firmware is downloaded and your device prompts with the option to install the update. You can also navigate to Settings->Advanced->Software Update to check if v8.0.1rx is available on the device. You also have to have enabled the check for software updates for LMS to even look for new firmware. I STRONGLY suggest that you perform a Factory Reset of your devices before installing the new v8.0.1 firmware for the first time. Many of the patches available for the original firmware are built-in now and may cause squeezeplay to fail to start at boot. The Enhanced Digital Output (EDO) applet for the Touch works with the new firmware. However, _make_sure_you_factory_reset_before_upgrading_if_EDO_is_already_runing_on_your_Touch_. Also, make sure you connect your device back to the local LMS server and not mysqueezebox.com after the factory reset to be able to install the community firmware.- Lounge: Transporter>Audio Synthesis DAX Decade>Audio Research LS22>Krell FPB300>Wilson Benesch Act 1's + 2 x Velodyne SPL1000 sub's Kitchen: SB3>Topping DAC>Arcam Solo>Anthony Gallo Micro's+Sub, Joggler controller Office: SB3>Acoustic Energy AE1 Active's, Joggler controller Garage: Boom>QAcoustics 7000s subwoofer Bedroom: Radio Shed: Radio Workshop: Boom Garden 1: SB3>JVC amp>Rock outdoor speakers Garden 2: SB3>JVC amp>Rock outdoor speakers Heuer's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2543 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113913 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I have just downloaded and installed LMS 8.1.1 on my PC so does this mean the Touch will get its updates from the PC as a proxy from here on in? Good to know that the EDO also affects the coax in a positive way too. It really is a good transport although you would expect an Auralic Mini transport to be better - but that's not there case in my tests. Thanks - I bought this SBT used and noticed during power up that the 'Enhanced Digital Output Unsupported by Logitech' message appears on power up - I hadn't noticed this before so the previous owner must have installed EDO. Funny you should mention the Chord Qutest DAC - I had the choice of the Qutest or an Audio Note 0.1x (which are approx the same price s/h) - I chose the Audio Note. So I now have the SBT connected to an AN 0.1x - and it seems that the SBT is not holding back the music making abilities of the Audio Note; proving yet again how good the SBT is as a reliable and rock solid performer. Bear in mind also that the AN is a design which eschews any digital manipulation as much as it can (filterless, NOS, simple TDA1543 chip etc) - as well as the aforementioned the AN does not re-clock the incoming signal from the transport - so the transport has to be good! I have heard great things about the Qutest - but I choose the AN and thus far I feel it was a good choice (although I have not listened to the Qutest even though I own a Mojo). stop-spinning's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43254 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113913 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I assume you used blind A-B to determine that. What in a PSU else than low noise could affect the sound? Goes to show what potential you can get out of the SBT though! An SBT on average sells for £100 (sometimes less) - and this power supply £600! So what you effectively get is a streamer for £700! Disproportionately priced you may think, but if the combo exceeds a modern day £1000 streamer then, money well spent I guess if you think of it that way. I know for a fact that the linear power supply I have is hugely influential in a positive way - what that £600 one will do I can only imagine! if you are deadly serious about your SBT - perhaps you owe it to yourself to invest in one of these power supplies and not worry about the ratio of the investment. You have to try it for yourself and see I guess. stop-spinning's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43254 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113913 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Well measurements or not - the linear power supply makes a very big difference to the sound even when used as a pure transport. I tried the stock power supply and, to say it didn't come close is an understatement. Measurements don't seem to reveal everything - pop along to ASR and get your fix from there - but listening to various equipment is far more important and evident. It's really important though to have a revealing set of speakers to 'hear' those differences. Else, yes, poor measuring or the best measuring may in fact sound the same with your average set of transducers. stop-spinning's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43254 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113913 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

There have been measurements taken in the past (by various members) of the original PSU vs premium ones and they measured the same. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Ah the lovely Squeezebox Touch - it has returned to the fold
OK this Touch is sounding exceptionally good with my current Metrum Octave MK2 DAC (which is a fussy beast) - I wonder how much of that is attributed to the linear power supply that came with it. The PSU is a MCRU two box design with the small regulator box nearer the Touch. But the sound from this thing (as a transport for now) is - no doubt about it - sounding top notch. stop-spinning's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43254 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=113913 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
