[Touch-packages] [Bug 1372061] Re: SMS notification: time format not translatable
Nick, you can get updates on function calls when local or any parameter used changes. See i18n.tr() and other functions also get updated when locale changes. You could have thing like i18n.trDate(date, format) which returns an object, which in turn can also have properties/functions so those can get updated whenever date, format or locale changes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to telephony-service in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1372061 Title: SMS notification: time format not translatable Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: In Progress Status in Ubuntu Translations: Triaged Status in telephony-service package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in ubuntu-settings-components package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in ubuntu-settings-components package in Ubuntu RTM: Triaged Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu RTM: New Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu RTM: Triaged Bug description: See the attached screenshot. The time for the notification seems to be hardcoded to hh:mm - mm, d. This works well for the US, but it's not a format that is used in all other countries. In Spain, for example, the date would rather be d mm. The time format needs to be marked for translation. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1472378] Re: upgrading ca-certificates results in broken certificate chains
Looking at the changelog: 20111025: Drop bogus c_rehash on upgrades, ... 20110421: * Depend on openssl 1.0.0 and force a call of c_rehash so that we have both the old and new style of symlinks. (Closes: #611102) I fully suspect that the bug was introduced upstream in oct 2011. If that's the case, then ubuntu introduced it 2014-03-05 with the security update to 20130906ubuntu0.12.04.1. At this point in time, this bug only affects machines upgrading from lucid to precise, and can be worked around by running c_rehash manually after do-release-upgrades finishes. It probably deserves to languish without fixes until precise EOL in 2017, and then get closed as fully uninteresting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ca-certificates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1472378 Title: upgrading ca-certificates results in broken certificate chains Status in ca-certificates package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Found this (finally) upgrading a web server from lucid to precise (via do-release-upgrade): Preparing to replace ca-certificates 20141019ubuntu0.10.04.1 (using .../ca-certificates_20141019ubuntu0.12.04.1_all.deb) ...^M Unpacking replacement ca-certificates ...^M ... I'm using Ubuntu in Portuguese, so the /home/$USER/Downloads folder is named /home/$USER/Transferências here. Adding a key from that folder fails, but adding a key from /home/$USER (no special characters) succeeds. But, worse, we will cache thumbnailer in twelve different sizes for that same single image because we are being asked for a different size each time. Also note that requests with width or height 0 are interpreted to mean as large as possible. The second request above consequently causes the image to be cached in its full size (unless it's larger than 1920, in which case we limit it to 1920x1920 bounding box). Something seems definitely wrong here. The multiple requests are wasteful, and the different sizes mean that the cache is far less effective than it could be. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1381050] Re: Import Key File fails when the path of the file has special characters
** Branch linked: lp:ubuntu/trusty-proposed/software-properties -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to software-properties in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1381050 Title: Import Key File fails when the path of the file has special characters Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in software-properties source package in Trusty: Fix Committed Bug description: [Impact] Importing a key that is in a path that contains special characters (like /home/$USER/Transferências) fails silently. [Test Case] 1. Download a PGP key for a Debian repository (for example, the VideoLAN team's key: download.videolan.org/pub/debian/videolan-apt.asc) 2. Move the key file to a folder that contains special characters, or rename the file to contain them (example: VídeoLAN.asc). 3. Open Software Updates from the Dash, then select the Authentication tab. 4. Press the Import Key File... button and then choose the key file. Admin authentication should then be requested, so authenticate yourself. If the bug is fixed: the key should now appear in the list of keys. If not: the key was not added. [Regression Potential] If the fix is not correct, I suppose it could potentially break the import key feature even more, so it wouldn't work even in normal paths. [Original Report] The Import Key File... button in the Authentication tab fails silently when the path of the selected key file includes special characters. I'm using Ubuntu in Portuguese, so the /home/$USER/Downloads folder is named /home/$USER/Transferências here. Adding a key from that folder fails, but adding a key from /home/$USER (no special characters) succeeds. The problem is that, in softwareproperties/gtk/SoftwarePropertiesGtk.py in method SoftwarePropertiesGtk.add_key_clicked() at around line 952: if res == Gtk.ResponseType.ACCEPT: try: if not self.backend.AddKey(chooser.get_filename()): error(self.window_main, _(Error importing selected file), _(The selected file may not be a GPG key file or it might be corrupt.)) except dbus.DBusException as e: if e._dbus_error_name == 'com.ubuntu.SoftwareProperties.PermissionDeniedByPolicy': logging.error(Authentication canceled, changes have not been saved) self.backend.AddKey(chooser.get_filename()) throws a org.freedesktop.DBus.Python.UnicodeEncodeError exception for paths with special characters. This is probably a side effect of switching from Python 2 to 3 (and 'bytes' now being used in network communications where 'str' was previously used). Another issue is that the error isn't reported to the user, and it should be. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1224756] Re: Pulseaudio should integrate with trust-store
** Changed in: canonical-devices-system-image Milestone: ww28-2015 = ww34-2015 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1224756 Title: Pulseaudio should integrate with trust-store Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: Confirmed Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Currently the 'audio' policy group allows access to pulseaudio which allows apps to use the microphone and eavesdrop on the user. Pulseaudio needs to be modified to use trust-store, like location- service does. Integrating with trust-store means that when an app tries use the microphone via pulseaudio, pulseaudio will contact trust-store, the trust-store will prompt the user (Foo wants to use the microphone. Is this ok? Yes|No), optionally cache the result and return the result to pulseaudio. In this manner the user is given a contextual prompt at the time of access by the app. Using caching this decision can be remembered the next time. If caching is used, there should be a method to change the decision in settings. Targeting to T-Series for now, since the trust-store is not in a reusable form yet. Original description: David and the security team (inspired by an observation from Rick) discussed that when recording, pulseaudio should somehow unobtrusively show the user that it is recording. The easiest thing to do would be for pulseaudio to alert indicator-sound which would then turn its icon red (similar to indicator-message turning blue with new messages). Marking 'high' because apps with access to pulseaudio can currently eavedrop on users. If the app is allowed to do networking (the default for apps), then it can ship that information off to a server somewhere. Note 1, the alert to indicator-sound must happen via the out of process pulseaudio server and not the confined app itself to be effective. Note 2, we should consider how to enforce this for foreground apps only. Application lifecycle should probably handle this for 13.10 (apps are suspended if not in foreground or if the screensaver is on), but we don't want an app on the converged device to record in the background when the user isn't paying attention. Example eavesdropping attack: start recording only when the screensaver is on (perhaps inhibiting the screensaver during recording would be enough). https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AccountPrivileges#Phone: On the phone, if an app tries to access your ... microphone ... or video recording, this should be subject to permission. “Video recording” should be separate from “Camera” so that an app does not need two permissions when recording video, one for the camera and one for the microphone. If an app has permission to record video, it should have access to the microphone whenever it is recording video... [Touch-packages] [Bug 1077829] Re: ASUS Xonar U3 volume slider problem
I have tried my Xonar U3 on Android X86 (on my computer), and the volume slider work properly, but it doesn't work properly on Ubuntu 14.04 with Linux 3.18.1. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077829 Title: ASUS Xonar U3 volume slider problem Status in The Linux Kernel: New Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I got an ASUS Xonar U3 USB sound card for my Thinkpad T420 for my birthday this year and tried to use it on Ubuntu 12.10. Unfortunately, its sound output is either bearably noticeable or - if I increase the volume by even the slightest notch with the audio indicator - EXTREMELY loud (and, because I use earphones, pretty painfully so). I did some experiments with alsamixer, and it seems as if the complete volume range that I would expect to be stretched over the complete slider is compressed in the PCM levels between 1 and ~7. This means the only way I can sanefully use the USB sound card right now is by turning the volume in each application very, very low so that I have some amount of precision with the global volume slider (which I can control with function keys), but every time I forget this somewhere, it's a pretty painful surprise, so I hope this can be fixed. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1472390] [NEW] July 7th earning morning update threw display completely off
Public bug reported: I ran the July 7 update at about 1AM CST last night, and it totally threw my monitor out of calibration. The alignment was shifted to the left so far that the left panel became invisible. The fonts were made larger. I had to mess with the monitors setting to even get my left panel back to check for further updates today, but my entire left panel is bunching up on itself on the top, so that the top application icons in are all on top of each other. I hope I am reporting this the proper way, but your system for reporting bugs is very confusing. I am surprised I even got this far, as it is not very intuitive how to do bug reports these days. :( BTW, this is the second time I have had an update screw up my computer in the last month. I'm starting to lose faith in the security of these security updates, as only a hacker would probably know how to get through all the submission hurdles to make these kind of changes. Also, it might help to know that I am using gnome metacity, so this may be limited to those of us using that. The default was slow as molasses on my old computer and the application choice on the their generic panel were not very intuitive, so I had to switch back to gnome. So I am not going to update my other computer till this is resolved. It was clearly an update issue, as it was working fine till I ran the update and restarted my computer. My apologies if this is a duplicate report, but I did not see it on the list of recent bug reports. I'm just doing the best I can keeping my system bug free. Cheers. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1458967] Re: gpg not asking for passphrase to decrypt a file
I could have sworn I wrote a response to this weeks ago. Bummer. If you use gpg --symmetric without using -r, you can create a file that requires using the passphrase to decrypt it; I don't think any of the various gpg agents will cache symmetric passphrases. If you want to disable use of a gpg agent entirely, you add the no-use- agent option to your ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf file. Thanks -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to gnupg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1458967 Title: gpg not asking for passphrase to decrypt a file Status in gnupg package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Signed Ubuntu Code of Conduct without issuet, Decided to play with gpg to learn more about it, using the UCofC text for testing, Saved the UCofC into UCC2,txt. Encrypted the file into UCC2.gpg with command: gpg -r $USER -o UCC2.gpg --yes --symmetric -e UCC2.txt This worked fine, asking me for the passphrase twice, as expected. I gave it the one that I used to sign the UCofC for Launchpad. Then, to test the decryption: gpg -d UCC2.gpg UCC2_1.txt Got the following messages: 'You need a passphrase to unlock the secret key for 'user: Phillip Norisez (This is my key for Launchpad) noris...@comcast.net '2560-bit ELG-E key, ID F91FDEB0, created 2015-04-27 (main key ID 05B43F32) ' 'gpg: encrypted with 1 passphrase 'gpg: encrypted with 2560-bit ELG-E key, ID F91FDEB0, created 2015-04-27 ' Phillip Norisez (This is my key for Launchpad) noris...@comcast.net' All of which seems to indicate the decrypt did not work. HOWEVER, diff UCC2_1.txt UCC2.txt DID NOT ERROR OUT AS EXPECTED. It seems that the text actually was written out to the file, even though errors appeared. Now, this leads me to ask the following: Why did the decrypt seem to work OK in spite of the errors? Why didn't gpg ask me for the passphrase? (I checked some old (ca 2009) posts that came up in a search for gpg not asking and found one that discussed checking the passphrase caching preferences for seahose, but I could not find them. I attributed this to the age of the posts; the preferences may have been deleted or moved. So, how do I change the caching preferences? Or can I not do that? Bottom line is that I expected gpg to ask me for the passphrase every time I try to decrypt the file. Is this a valid expectation? Here is the current implementation: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1JvDyhsW17d1-Mz8OY1YMBKwfRI2z9qgyRjbujEsxEMk/edit#slide=id.g36c1a0cdd_010 In which I disabling Snooze is highly recommended. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to indicator-datetime in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1411187 Title: [clock] Add option to not have snooze Status in Clock application for Ubuntu devices: Triaged Status in Ubuntu UX bugs: Confirmed Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Snooze is evil. I suggest to add to snooze dropdown menu in the option the voice No snooze or something like this GV - UX Solution I've added the option to turn snooze off when editing an alarm, plus I've added an option 'Don't snooze in settings' https://docs.google.com/a/canonical.com/presentation/d/1JvDyhsW17d1-Mz8OY1YMBKwfRI2z9qgyRjbujEsxEMk/edit#slide=id.g34303b1ce_2_11 [UX Comment] As it seems unlikely that we will be able to implement snooze on/off snooze duration for individual alarms, but do have an application-wide setting that allows snooze duration to be set (but not disabled), I'd recommend the options relating to snooze in application settings be changed to the following: - No snooze - 5 minutes - 10 minutes - 15 minutes This way the list is still short (four options, as it is currently) but the options provided are likely to be more useful (current 2 minute snooze doesn't seem very useful, nor does the difference between 4 mins and 5 min snooze periods). ** Branch linked: lp:~osomon/webbrowser-app/unsimplify-url-on-focus -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to webbrowser-app in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1472161 Title: [regression] full URL is not displayed when focusing the address bar Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: The browser has a mechanism to simplify the URL in the address bar when it looses focus (it displays only the domain name, which makes it much more readable on small form factors such as phones). When focusing the address bar to input some text, it used to display the full URL, but a recent regression broke that. Steps to reproduce: 1) focus the address bar, type example.org/foo, and validate (return key on the OSK) 2) wait for the page to be fully loaded, then focus the address bar again Expected result: the contents of the address bar becomes http://example.org/foo;. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1470852] Re: Network activity indicator not implemented
** Description changed: Currently there is no way to tell when the phone is using data. This is important when deciding whether to put it into Flight Mode, when leaving Wi-Fi coverage, or when adjusting settings. ** Branch linked: lp:ubuntu/wily-proposed/camera-app -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to camera-app in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1467461 Title: Camera app controls should be placed correctly Status in camera-app package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: Now that full shell rotation has landed in development channels, the camera app doesn't give a good experience for the user. In landscape, the controls move with the screen's rotation and thus put them at the bottom just like how it is in portrait. I think the controls should be at the side when in landscape mode just like before. Another problem is that when rotation is locked, the user cannot use the camera in portrait and thus cannot take pictures in portrait. In summary, the camera app should still behave like before the shell rotation landed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/camera-app/+bug/1467461/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1466409] Re: All photos stored in portrait, no matter what orientation the camera was when taken
** Branch linked: lp:ubuntu/wily-proposed/camera-app -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to camera-app in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1466409 Title: All photos stored in portrait, no matter what orientation the camera was when taken Status in Camera App: In Progress Status in camera-app package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: When I take photos in landscape mode, they display in portrait orientation in the gallery. Looking at the saved files, they are 1836x3264 JPEG images, while the landscape orientation photos I took a month ago are 3264x1836. Neither the new or old photos include EXIF orientation tags. I've also noticed that the viewfinder is sometimes shown upside down. If I hold my phone so the USB port is to the right, the viewfinder image is oriented correctly. If I hold it with the USB port to the left, the viewfinder is upside down. In both cases, the camera controls are at the bottom of the screen. I'm guessing both of these issues are related to the new shell auto- rotation feature. I encountered this on my Nexus 4 running the latest devel-proposed image: current build number: 229 device name: mako channel: ubuntu-touch/devel-proposed/ubuntu last update: 2015-06-18 17:30:40 version version: 229 version ubuntu: 20150618 version device: 20150529.1 version custom: 20150618 This has camera-app version 3.0.0.558.
