With these same settings, after upgrading to ubuntu 16.10, eth0 appears as unmanaged in nm-applet. If I modify /etc/network/interfaces and add auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp And set managed=true in NetworkManager.conf [ifupdown] section, eth0 is still unmanaged despite it does get an IP from DHCP server. There definitely are usecases for applications requesting display power changes, but yes they need to be filtered/mangled by the shell, and only applied when the requesting app, and session, are in focus. Whether that should be a privileged operation, I'm not sure. This has a serious impact on big systems and servers running our software. The currently proposed fix is actually a safe workaround for the bug as proposed by the dbus upstream. The workaround makes uid 0 immune to the pending_fd_timeout limit that kicks in and causes the original issue. [Test Case] lxc launch ubuntu:x test lxc exec test -- login -f ubuntu ssh-import-id Then ran a script as follows (passing in ubuntu@): while [ 1 ]; do (time ssh $1 "echo OK > /dev/null") 2>&1 | grep ^real >> log done Then checking the log file if there are any ssh sessions that are taking 25+ seconds to complete. Multiple instances of the same script can be used at the same time. [Regression Potential] The fix has a rather low regression potential as the workaround is a very small change only affecting one particular case - handling of uid 0. The fix has been tested by multiple users and has been around in zesty for a while, with multiple people involved in reviewing the change. It's also a change that has been proposed by upstream. [Original Description] I noticed on a system that accepts large numbers of SSH connections that after awhile, SSH sessions were taking ~25 seconds to complete. Looking in /var/log/auth.log, systemd-logind starts failing with the following: Jun 10 23:55:28 test sshd[3666]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for user ubuntu by (uid=0) Jun 10 23:55:28 test systemd-logind[105]: New session c1052 of user ubuntu. I'm digging into unity8 performance problems on older generation Intel
GPUs - specifically i915 Atom GPUs.
I've tested a simple QML file with a single empty UbuntuShape in it:

Running it with INTEL_DEBUG=perf env var set, I get this output:

Mapping a busy BO, causing a stall on the GPU.
which implies that MESA was unable to compile one of the UbuntuShape
shaders as it created more ALU instructions than the GPU could deal
with. MESA falls back to CPU rendering as a result.
The GPU stall message I guess is related to that.

getColorSpace, part of lcms, is passed a null pointer.
GfxICCBasedColorSpace::parse has this sequence of code:

hp can't be null, or else we wouldn't be calling cmsGetColorSpace.
This means dhp must be NULL, which can only happen if RGBProfile is
null.
RGBProfile is set up in GfxColorSpace::setupColorProfiles(). Assuming
this function has been called, it does the following:

cmsCreate_sRGBProfile can return NULL in a number of ways.
I'm not sure what the fix is though.

BTW, the patch is finally accepted upstream, it's available in poppler 0.50 (though neither Debian nor Ubuntu picked that version yet). There's a correction for this patch as well in the repo. Bug description:
I'm digging into unity8 performance problems on older generation Intel
GPUs - specifically i915 Atom GPUs.
I've tested a simple QML file with a single empty UbuntuShape in it:

Running it with INTEL_DEBUG=perf env var set, I get this output:
i915_program_error: Exceeded max ALU instructions (76 out of 64)
ENTER FALLBACK 1: Program
Mapping a busy BO, causing a stall on the GPU.
which implies that MESA was unable to compile one of the UbuntuShape
shaders as it created more ALU instructions than the GPU could deal
with. MESA falls back to CPU rendering as a result.
The GPU stall message I guess is related to that.

The browser presents a warning about an invalid ssl certificate, although the certificate appears perfectly valid. It then presents the option to go back to a safe site or continue anyway. If I choose continue anyway, it starts to load the site, but never completes. After some time it stops loading and displays a rather incomplete version of the site. It is clearly composed of only some of the pages' elements and incomplete.The amount of the page that is displayed varies from time to time. It appears that transmission times out while loading the page. Test case: 1) Try loading https://www.amazon.com. Well, up to 2.10 dbus rule handling in the tools was simply matching for
"dbus.*," and writing the line back to the profile without any changes.
I'm not sure if I'd call full support for dbus rules (including handling
of log events) a regression ;-) but I understand that it's annoying.
Writing a "real" parser in the python code would be quite some work, so
- how difficult would it be to make apparmor_parser's code to parse dbus
rules available via libapparmor? (Or a separate libapparmor_parser or
libapparmor_private if you worry about including too much in
libapparmor.)

I already have opened separate bugreports for firefox and chromium. No, the chromium and firefox profiles can be fixed. However the current fixes are not ideal. Basically apparmor currently needs to allow capability sys_admin and a few other dangerous privileges in the base profile. This is not do to the complexity of the sandbox model but because the linux namespace code does not provide the LSM the hooks/information for apparmor to be able to setup a separate profile for the user namespace chrome is setting up for its sandbox. [Impact]
After including the patch from bug 1642903, NVMe devices that include spaces
in their model or serial strings result in incorrect symlinks, e.g. if the
model string is "XYZ Corp NVMe drive" then instead of creating:
/dev/disk/by-id/nvme-XYZ Corp NVMe drive_SERIAL -> ../../nvme0n1
it creates:
/dev/disk/by-id/nvme-XYZ -> ../../nvme0n1
/dev/Corp -> nvme0n1
/dev/NVMe -> nvme0n1
/dev/drive_SERIAL -> nvme0n1
This is because of the way udev handles the SYMLINK value strings; by
default, it does not do any whitespace replacement. To enable
whitespace replacement of a symlink value, the rule must also include
OPTIONS+="string_escape=replace". This is done for 'md' and 'dm'
devices in their rules. However, there are no rules that actually
want to specify multiple symlinks, and defaulting to not replacing
whitespace makes no sense; instead, the default should be to replace
all whitespace in each symlink value, unless the rule explicitly
specifies OPTIONS+="string_escape=none".
[Test Case]
This assumes using udev with the patch from bug 1642903.
Without this patch, when using a NVMe drive that contains spaces in
its model and/or serial strings, check the /dev/disk/by-id/ directory.
It should contain a partially-correct symlink to the NVMe drive, with
the name up to the first space. All following space-separated parts
of the mode/serial string should have symlinks in the /dev/ directory.
This is the incorrect behavior.
With this patch, check the /dev/disk/by-id/ directory. It should
contain a fully-correct symlink to the NVMe drive, and no part of the
drive's model/serial number string should be a link in the /dev
directory.
An example of the correct/incorrect naming is in the Impact section.
There should be no other changes to any of the symlinks under /dev
before and after this patch. Typical locations for symlinks are
/dev/, /dev/disk/by-name/, /dev/disk/by-id/, /dev/disk/by-uuid/,
/dev/disk/by-label/
[Regression Potential]
Errors in udev rules can lead to an unbootable or otherwise completely
broken system if they unintentionally break or clobber existing
/dev/disks/ symlinks.

Sorry if I write an extensive explaination just now, but I was a bit busy lately. The behaviour of the webbrowser-app can be divided in three categories when trying to open a file (or a folder) from local memory. 1 - Unexistent file or folder: will return the "Network Error". 2 - Existing file or folder, but without permission in that directory. For example writing "/usr/" should access the /usr/ folder, but the webbrowser doesn't have enought permission to open it, the returning page is a blank one, without any intestation or anything else. 3 - Existing file or folder, with permission. The directories webbrowser can open are as far as i know /home/phablet/Downloads and /home/phablet/.config/webbrowser and maybe the respective .cache and .local direcrories. In these directories is possible to browse and open files as shown in the screenshot I am attaching. I really don't print a lot, so it ages well. I just replaced my former desktop with a new barebone without parallel port - no space to embed a PCI IEEE 1284 adapter. So I just bought a cable which is a parallel-to-usb adapter : it is a Sweex adapter, the kernel recognizes it as : Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2305 Parallel Port I configured cups to use this new adapter, with the same old pnm2ppa driver. When I try to print a test page from cups (or other printings) it goes well, until close to the end, when the printing suddenly stops, without the sheet being released : I have to power off the printer, which as a side effect triggers the sheet ejection before power off. I read various articles and forums on this topic before posting. Playing with usblp, kernel blacklists and /dev/usb/lp0 does not solve anything. I wanted to be sure that it was not the Prolific controller which was flawed. So I connected it to a windows 7 virtual machine into Virtualbox; Windows installed various drivers, and eventually various printings ran seamlessly - without my issue on GNU/Linux. So my conclusion is that the controller is ok. I also just tested mainline kernel http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel- ppa/mainline/v3.13-rc3-trusty/linux- image-3.13.0-031300rc3-generic_3.13.0-031300rc3.201312061335_amd64.deb . No improvement, my test page stops being printed at the same spot close to the end. So I can assume that there is a bug in the controller's driver. Best regards R. There was a typo in the old 14.04 script... Which caused dhclient to add the
default gateway in any case.
Now the typo is "fixed" and the script is no longer working the old way. Is
this intended or just another bug?

I use this function in a Tcl-based build/packaging/install system on KUbuntu
14.04 with kernel 4.8.15 .

This error tends to go away after having tried various approaches to
avoid it, which hints at the effects of an uninitialised variable, or a
bounds-overwrite, hence running the script through valgrind.
Ubuntu 14.04 is still at libbsd 0.6 so I backported the latest available
packaging from Launchpad (0.8.3-1). Initial results are encouraging:
valgrind no longer complains about setmode or getmode called from
InstallCmd().
I'd like to urge you to provide an official backport of this package;
the process is trivial (see my ppa:rjvbertin/misc archive).
