[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369737] Re: Send button does not enable until you press spacebar

2014-09-16 Thread Bill Filler
This can be fixed in the same way it's done in the messaging-app, by
checking the following properties:

enabled: (textField.text !=  || textField.inputMethodComposing)

This will cause the send button to be enabled if there is text in the
field or text is being composed

default)
  - receive a text message on your phone
  - pull down messaging indicator
  - click on the message
  - type Hello in the entry field

  Expected result:
  - the send button should become active as soon as you start typing

  Actual result:
  - send button stays disabled until you press the spacebar

The send button should not wait until the word is committed before
becoming active, but instead should listen for any change and enable
the button accordingly. The messaging app does this correctly.

another question for consideration, could we consider swipe to unlock on the
notification as a non-full screen item ?

That could work. Or what about using the greeter instead of snap
decision and adding a swipe to answer?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1324292] Re: re-add support for selecting text for copying

2014-09-16 Thread Bill Filler
Our support for text selection and resizing seems to not be working very well.
Using rtm build on krillin with webbrowser-app 0.23+14.10.20140910~rtm-0ubuntu1
oxide: 1.2.0-0ubuntu1

Testing using the following web sites:
cnn.com, mobile.nytimes.com, m.espn.go.com, ubuntu.com

1) very difficult, or impossible to get the selection rectangle to show up at
all. Press and hold does not seem to be triggering it. Often I just get a
single word highlighted.
2) times I do get the selection rectangle to show up, I can't resize it to
anything smaller than the paragraph which it seems to select by default. I
can't get it to select just a single line or multiple words within the lines.

  - No actions should be allowed on the dialer except interacting with current
call

  Actual Results:
  - The back button is enabled in the header and pressing it brings you to the
keypad view where you can only dial an emergency number, which doesn't make

  1. Open Messaging app (or Address Book app, Phone app), make sure you have a
list in your messages view
  2. Long press on any of the list items

  Actual Result:
  3. Header is changing and shows an X button on the left hand side and two
action buttons on the right hand side. Selection checkboxes appear from the
left hand side.

  Expected result - desired solution:
  - The header should display a BACK button instead of the X on the left hand
side, same as we have in all other headers
  - Remove the change in the background colour when a list item is selected,
change in the colour of the checkbox is enough
  - Add labels for all visible actions in this mode in the header, including
BACK for the back button
  - Tapping on the BACK in this mode, cancels the multi-select mode and does
NOT navigate back to the previous view
  - There is no title in this header

Please see attached wireframe for reference. This change applies
across all apps which use a multi select in their list views.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1365497] Re: Inform user when a video format is not supported

2014-09-17 Thread Bill Filler
@Jim
it would be good to do the check at a low level like you suggest, either
qtubuntu-media or media-hub as many different apps could request playing media
of unsupported types, so checking that at the service level makes sense. Would
be good for media-hub to not crash either but I guess that would be less
important if we can ensure that it will never try to play anything it cant'
handle.

  4. Select a contact from the proposed list view

  Actual result:
The selected contact moves to the left in the input box and is half hidden,
even though there is enough space to show it completely. There seems to be a
lot of space between the name and the blue cursor.

  Expected result:
The just added name/contact should be visible in full if it fits into the
input box, including the cursor. The space between the end of the contact and
cursor should be reduced.
The same happens if you type in a number manually and tap into the message
input field, the number moves out of the view, even though there is enough
space to show its full length.
A contact number can only move out of view, if it doesn't fit fully into the
input box in the header.

Please discuss with Chris and lets come up with a plan to address this somehow.
This feature is pretty much unusable in it's current state. If the limitations
are due to support that is needed in oxide, then we need to determine what the
work items are and how much effort is involved so we can estimate a completion

- phone is set for Eastern time zone (utc -4)
- take a picture with the camera
- apt-get install exiv2 onto the phone

To be clear what is being requested:
- always show the sim label in the bubble (when dual sims) on Recieved messages
only
- never show the sim label in the bubble for sent messages
- whenever the sim is changed in the header insert a divider/label into the
list with the info about the change (see attached graphic)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1362404] Re: when phone locked back button should return to greeter

re-opening
my previous guidance was incorrect. Now there is no way to unlock your phone
when you recv a call when your phone is locked, which is not good.

So the back button in the live call view should return you to the
greeter when the phone is locked, not be hidden as it currently is.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1342123] Re: evolution-calendar-factory always running with high memory usage

2014-09-22 Thread Bill Filler
To clarify, out of the box on krillin with no calendar sync even
enabled, evolution-calendar-factory uses 32MB which is the 4th highest
process in memory usage. This is with an empty database of no calendar
events or alarms.

I'm assuming evolution-calendar-factory gets loaded by indicator-
datetime initially such that the indicator can show calendar events.

If you have a large database of calendar entries (i.e. after you've done
a google calendar sync), as Pat reported this process can grow to well
over 100MB. It seems to have no upper bound, and since the evolution
backend for calendar is simply a flat file of type .ics, e-c-f appears
to load the entire file into memory.

e-c-f really needs a sqlite backend or something such that it can manage
it more efficiently. Someone needs to investigate what can be done in
the short term reduce the memory usage if possible.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1339016] Re: Initial sync of the calendar takes a prohibitive amount of time

We use syncevolution, which communicates with Google on the remote side
and evolution-data-server on the local side to store events. There is no
API in syncevolution to limit the scope of events retrieved. We need to
look into modifying it to do so, and to optimize it's operational time
as it's ridiculously slow (this in part is likely due to evolution-
calendar-factory using a flat file to store the calendar events).

Renato has indicated there is a newer version of syncevolution which has
recently been released that may improve the situation. The next step is
to try this new version and see if it helps.

Android allows for adding emojis[1] to SMS messages. I'm told that iOS
users are able to see these emojis. Our messaging app should also
  support displaying emojis.

emojis appear to not requires MMS since when using Google Hangouts in
the new android, when you add an emoji the hangouts app says 'Sent now
via SMS'. Two things need to happen:

  1. need to be able to correctly receive SMS messages with arbitrary
emojis. Currently, on image 120, an SMS with a known emoji, eg, a
smiley face, will display correctly when it is and is not accompanied
with text. However, an SMS with an unknown emoji (eg, with a pinata)
will show up as a blank SMS, even when the SMS has text. At a minimum,
the text of the message should always be shown, perhaps with an
  'unknown emoji' placeholder

  2. need to be able to send SMS messages with emojis

Dialog shows up after rebooting it though, so it seems to be a first-

Title:
[messaging app] send highlight only from msg body focus

Status in Messaging App:
  Confirmed
Status in Ubuntu UX bugs:
  Fix Committed
Status in “messaging-app” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  image#136
  really rather minor usability issue

  1. enter text in message body
  2. focus change to enter who to send msg to
  3. enter phone number manually (i don't know if its the same with contact
selection)
  4. try to send - it won't

had to then change focus back to message body as if to type more, in
order to get send button to work

  DESIRED RESOLUTION:
After user enters the number/recipient manually he should be able to sent the
message even if message input box is not in focus. As long as the input box has
content the SEND button has to be enabled.

Status in Messaging App:

Status in Ubuntu UX bugs:

Status in “messaging-app” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
If I open the messaging app, then swipe up the toolbar and select
Compose, I am presented with the compose window (good). If I then
click the add Contact icon, then select a contact, a list is displayed
that shows the number and View contact's profile. This is fine, but
the list shows a telephone icon rather than a message icon. If I
select the telephone icon, the contact is added to the message and all
  is fine.

This isn't a major issue, but can be confusing and is inconsistent
with the dialer app's call log, where if you click an item in the call
log, a list is displayed that shows a telephone icon with 'Call now'
and a message icon with 'Send text message'. I would expect that the
message icon always be used when dealing with messages and the
telephone icon when dealing with calls.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1218294] Re: [dialer app] During a live call, there's no volume adjustment available

2014-07-29 Thread Bill Filler
just tested on Utopic build 157 and volume adjustment during call
doesn't seem to control the volume of the earpiece, only the speaker
phone. And turning the volume all the way down even when the
speakerphone is on doesn't turn off all the sound as I expected, it just
lowers it to a certain point.

  What happens:
The call continues and there is no way to know if we really are in a call.

  What should happen:
There should be an indicator in the top bar to show that the call is in
progress with a way to directly switch to the call, as we see in Android.

Bug description:
These all relate to usability concerns with the contacts app and the
contacts view in the dialer. This is with image, 57.

1 - there is no visible way to distinguish the contacts app vs the contacts
view in the dialer other than a subtle hint that there are more tabs in the top
panel. As they have different features available this can be a bit confusing.
2 - the list is too long to search and even with the letter shortcuts can
take some time, search should be restored even if with a short term fix
3 - when adding a new contact, the gray help text to fill in the fields is
not at all visible, probably needs different font treatment, not matching the
mockups
4 - there is no filtering support so the All Contacts phrase has no context
unless its as opposed to favorites, but with no favorites seems very odd.
5 - the ability to go directly to a letter is nice, perhaps we need some
indication that this option exists, although once learned its fine. Its also
not accessible if you have favorites, the user needs to scroll up first.
Perhaps Favorites category should also collapse and provide an entry to the
quick select.

  Problem:
If user receives an SMS/call, snap decision for incoming SMS/call stays on
screen for always only 60sec. and then disappears from screen (by default).
There was no interaction from user.

  Possible solution:
The snap decision should stay on screen for the amount of time the app asks
it to, being always app dependant.
A 60sec. time-out is too short due to use cases where an action from user is
mandatory.

Use case example: A class 1/2 SMS arrives after user triggered a USSD
command from dialer. These type of SMS always requires a response from
user (CANCEL or a further COMMAND). Thus a timeout of only 60 sec is
too short because it can be missed and these type of SMS is NOT saved
  into the usual messages thread.
