Re: [Trisquel-users] Canon MG5200 -- Nonfree Printer Drivers
People with jobs don't have time to post on internet forums in most cases. It's just that simple. I'd expect you to say that Chris, you work for yourself. The experience of myself and friends is U.S. megacorp offices are often much like the UK. There's an awful lot of facetime B/S. Everybody saying how they've been there since 06:00 when the security guard disarmed the alarm for you at 07:00 and yours was the only car in the car park at 08:00. Leaving five minutes after the boss's car leaves the lot and claiming they were there until after midnight. Working for yourself eh :-) I do mailing lists for relaxation when my concentration fades during the day, ten minute break - sometimes I get carried away. A digital native will have written twice as much on their smartphone while going to the water cooler. Leny
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compile Trisquel from Source
The only non-essential peripheral it has is an external hard-drive. If it's a USB HDD turn it off when you're not using it. USB HDD controllers sometimes lock up, e.g. after a couple of days, and some MOBOs don't like misbehaving USB devices. When I say non-essential I mean everything USB other than the keyboard and mouse should only be switched on when it's needed.
[Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
I've recently done updates on my system and abrowser 30 was one of the updates. Since then I'm having problems trying to access an online bank account. The support group with the bank is of little help. The other secure page that doesn't seem to work anymore is the one for webmin. When I try to login to webmin I get a security error. I've listed it below: Security Warning Warning! Webmin has detected that the program https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1/right.cgi?open=systemopen=status was linked to from an unknown URL, which appears to be outside the Webmin server. This may be an attempt to trick your server into executing a dangerous command. Two other things to note. I have this problem on the windows build of Firefox 30 but not on the GNU/Linux Mint Build of Firefox 30.0. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
Try to create a new/clean profile. A clogged profile is the source of most of the browser related issues.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
I should have noted that I have tried that. Also of note is that this is happening on more than one computer. Most secure sites are working just fine. Firefox 29.0 did not have this problem at all. There must be a recent change that triggered this.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compile Trisquel from Source
Probably a noob question, but what is an upstream?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
I haven't mentioned that version differences are also important, since you wrote that I have this problem on the windows build of Firefox 30 but not on the GNU/Linux Mint Build of Firefox 30.0. I personally haven't tried online banking in Abrowser 30 yet, however, you should try to install a different version of the browser to compare whether it will help or not. Then you should look into the changelog to learn what has been changed between releases, all in order to track down the culprit. Also, screenshots can be more useful than copy-pastas when showcasing an issue. (_Tip_: Use MediaCrush to upload them)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
After searching for the output message, I found that you're using a third-party application called Webmin, which I don't know. According some reports, it looks that the problem is with this program, and not within the browser. http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?topic=122704.0
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
I've been having trouble logging in to a bank account too recently. I couldn't even log in with Firefox. Eventually out of desperation (and knowing that banks are fairly good at security and compensation) I tried (cough)ie(cough) on a non-GNU/Linux workstation. Even that didn't work until I reduced the security settings slightly. I guessed that the bank system is redirecting to, or running scripts on, another domain and the browser won't let it, so it just hangs. Either that or it's trying to do something my firewall won't allow.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
I ran across this as well. I suppose that it could be webmin, but something has changed in abrowser. Version 29 worked fine and still does. 30 is the issue. I would just go back to 29 but eventually whatever is causing this should be known or dealt with. If it's a bug we can have it fixed. If it's something that websites need to do differently, at least we can advise them of that.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compile Trisquel from Source
It's a metaphor that describes the various distributions based on each other as parts of a river: Ubuntu is upstream from Trisquel because everything in Ubuntu flows into Trisquel, and Debian is upstream from Ubuntu because everything in Debian flows into Ubuntu. So Trisquel being your upstream just means your system is based on Trisquel.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
Well, browser updates may introduce incompatibilities which doesn't necessarily mean that the application is buggy, however, I really doesn't know Webmin at all so I cannot comment on this. Your best bet is (in my opinion) to report the problem directly to the developers and hope that someone will respond, and until the problem gets fixed, revert to an older/working version of the browser (or alternatively try to use different Webmin version). What I don't really understand is that how can you have this problem on Trisquel and Windows, while not on (GNU/)Linux Mint. Do you use Webmin on all of your computers?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Developing free software
Well, Vala looks interesting and I know how to code in Java and C# already, so it wouldn't be hard to learn - yes, the syntax looks very similar.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
I figured out a setting in Abrowser that by changing allows access into webmin again. Still no luck on my banking site. If you go into about:config and change network.http.sendRefererHeader to a value of 2 it allows webmin. I'll try to dig into what the differences there are in the mint build of Firefox 30 and Abrowser 30 to resolve the problem with my bank site.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compile Trisquel from Source
Ah, that makes sense! Okay, thanks everyone, I've finally figured out how to make a subdistro!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compile Trisquel from Source
Have you checked the memory of the computer? I believe the Trisquel CD/DVD can do that when you reboot off it.

The Hacker Crackdown is a good read. While easy to read, it gives a good perspective and interesting info on things past.

Looks like it's available from project Gutenberg too. http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/101
[Trisquel-users] prboom-plus and freedoom 0.8
Hey all, I have downloaded and compiled the latest version of prboom-plus and freedoom being that the repositories do not have the latest versions and I can even get it to run, but the only thing is, that it only runs if I either double click on the 'prboom-plus' icon under '/usr/local/games/' or if I cd to there using the terminal and type ./prboom-plus. What am I doing wrong? GrimLok
Re: [Trisquel-users] prboom-plus and freedoom 0.8
It sounds like /usr/local/games is not in your path. You could either put /usr/local/games in your path or you could install to a directory that is in your path already.
Re: [Trisquel-users] prboom-plus and freedoom 0.8
You can also use links: sudo ln /usr/games/prboom-plus usr/bin/prboom-plus If you don't want to use links but you want to add that directory to your path instead, you can do this: export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/games/ For me, the best solution is to use a text editor on /home/YOUR_USER_NAME/.bashrc (emacs, nano...) and copy-paste export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/games/ in the last line of the file. After that, the enviroment variable will have added the desired directory.

Will this allow me to just type prboom-plus in the command line to run it?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Running Tor as Transparent Proxy
Using the Tor included in TBB does not seem like a good idea. Once I changed settings on torrc, it began to look for files and directories that are expected in a full installation of Tor (.tor in home directory for example). Perhaps with symlinks it would be possible to get it to a usable state, but it might be prone to break. As to the part about Tor Browser, it is not relevant. The idea is to make Tor transparent to every program. This way the program does not necessarily have to be SOCKS enabled to use Tor. Yes, I am aware that many programs could send sensitive information. This is a very stripped down box, so I'm not too worried about that. I installed the version of Tor in the Trisquel repos just to experiment. It is unable to understand the setting VirtualAddrNetworkIPv4 but VirtualAddrNetwork works. I was unable to get this to work with the sample rules provided on the wiki. The transproxy.firewall.sh script by isislovecruft does work however. It seems it should support multiple users, but no matter how I've tried I've been unable to get that working either. Also of note is that if I run it with just root as user, no program that I open from terminal using sudo is able to connect to the Internet. If, however, I give my user account access, using sudo results in the programs having Internet access. What does sudo do exactly? If running NetworkManager, it is necessary to specify 127.0.0.1 as DNS right in the configuration here. It seems like NetworkManager ignores resolv.conf. Also worth noting, that I have to restart Tor every time after booting up, otherwise I'm unable to connect after adding the iptables rules. I'll look through that script to see if I can figure out how come it works and the sample rules on that wiki do not.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
When I download the official build of Mozilla Firefox(64-bit) for GNU/Linux and run it I am able to login to my bank web site. I am still not able to under windows and I'm not able to in Abrowser. There has to be something specific to the Abrowser build of Firefox that is making it not work. I've also tried Abrowser with extensions disabled. Can anyone familiar with anything unique in Abrowser chime in on this?
[Trisquel-users] GDM Background
I changed GDM background by replacing the /usr/share/backgrounds/toutatis.jpg file with an image of my choice renamed as toutatis.jpg. Is it okay?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
Try turning on third party cookies. They're disabled by default.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
I have problems with Abrowser 30 too. I cannot log into 'trello.com' directly. And like alucardx's banking site, they worked fine with its previous version. I thought it was a problem with the website since it does not run properly on all web browsers but now even I agree to alucardx's remarks.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
I tired after enabling them but didn't work for me.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Abrowser secure page problems
Did you try changing the referer header like alu?
Re: [Trisquel-users] GDM Background
Sure.
