Re: [Trisquel-users] LibreTrend will be at Evento Linux 2014, the 25th Sept. in Lisbon (Portugal)
Hello Everyone, I just want to give a big Thank You for everyone who intended the 'Linux Evento 2014'. I wasn't expecting for the LibreBox to have such a success knowing that on my side there were enterprises like RedHat, Caixa Mágica, Angulo Solido, Syone (our partners on this event) or even IPBrick. It was good to know that people loved the LibreBox so much ! Once again thank you everyone and see you next year at the same event.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Recording audio from my desktop
I once asked this question, and I was pointed to outRec, which does the job: http://outrec.sourceforge.net/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Fix for the GNU Bash shellshock vulnerability
I just did a system upgrade and found no updates yet. I'm running the latest Toutatis.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Recording audio from my desktop
First, I cannot answer your questions, I can give you some pieces of information. What I write, I tested on ubuntu. What are you looking for? The same as stereo mix in windows, that records all audio taking place on the computer? If you open your audio recording application and open pulse audio volume control. Go to 'recording' and press the button left to the speaker icon, you should get 2 options. 'Monitor of built in audio analog stereo' and 'built in audio analog stereo'. Select 'Monitor of …' and what comes out of your speakers, will be recorded. Watch this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSeINGM68A8 It appears that your microphone audio will be put into your speaker audio stream, and by that your microphone audio will be recorded by 'Monitor of …'. I do not like this solution, because you get your microphone audio out of your speakers. Make this search 'pavucontrol pactl load-module module-loopback' on youtube and you get some videos about the matter. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=search_videossearch_query=pavucontrol+pactl+load-module+module-loopbacksearch_sort=relevancesearch_category=0page= I tried to record skype calls using audacity and other applications. I could record speaker audio or microphone audio. Not both at the same time. I asked on forums. Got no usable answers. There is 'jack mixer', 'jackeq', 'alsamixergui', 'pulseaudiopreferences'. I do not remember what applications I tried. I searched 'pulse', 'alsa', 'sound' and 'audio' in the software center. Maybe they are able to record speaker and microphone, but I did not get it to work. Fx jitsi can record speaker and microphone audio. That means, it can be done. There is this website http://www.itnervecenter.com/content/quick-and-dirty-recording-stereo-mix-linux-box. I am not skilled to be able to use the instructions. If you find out, how to record microphone and speaker, please make a post. To me 'pulse audio volume control' lacks a stereo mix option. In general I do not grasp, why there is not an official gnulinux crowdfunding website. If somone had an idea for software to be made, a crowdfunding could be made, and if enough money would be gathered, anyone skilled could make the software and get the money. Fx there is no quality text to audio voice for gnulinux. Nobody makes it. I cannot make it. And probably would not without payment. Maybe a crowdfunding could get it made.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Learning self-defense
Hi guys, Regarding Self-Defense, I've just found out about SElinux. Can anyone explain me what is it about? how it works? and how it helps to enforce security on a GNU/linux system? What are the main pros cons? Does it worth configuring my GNU/linux with SElinux? Furthermore, Has anyone tried it before? I know many of the answers for the above question can be found on the documentation but is somewhat technical for me to grasp a good understanding. Thank you guys! lep

Reverse engineering in which hardware and software? MONITOR: hdmi i`m not fan because this is not usb http://hackaday.com/2013/07/08/a-very-small-hdmi-display/, The monitor also bought the usb works only with native free technology in linux kernel www.displaylink.org therefore freer. VIDEO 3D: Open initiative https://github.com/laanwj/etna_viv i need deb packages. MINI BOARD: The freescale manufacturer seems to have a reputation for releasing docs designs and their products (FPGAs etc) so it was a difficult choice for me and I hope someone confirm this information with technical background and greater than my time. We need to remove all the useless stuff gk802 (bluetooth and wifi and hdmi output) and leave only the USBs if possible get some with USB 3.0 without patents turned vertically to build other devices with ex fittings. (pc phone). And continue forever with the idea of bios in memory card easy to replicate with dd.
Re: [Trisquel-users] LibreTrend will be at Evento Linux 2014, the 25th Sept. in Lisbon (Portugal)
The LibreBox to see in live was and had much more interesting concept than other brands. One of the things that kept my attention was the fact that the librebox could be open and see things inside it. Like an open hardware should be. And the better thing of all the aiming way of being libre. If only the cpu was better... If that were the case I would buy immediately. Nevertheless i'm looking forward in the improvements and i wish much continued success to the company LibreTrend.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel on ARM (2)
I also need this (http://nvate.com/400/open-source-opened-the-minds-25-computer-comes-to-the-classroom/) with trisquel? in which link I buy?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel on ARM (2)
What megurineturilli adpatador wireless usb to arm you use and what do you recommend? have the deb installation of modules? the linux kernel libre recognizes automatically? serves no arm? The trisquel has free drivers for it on x86? I bought some and have not worked arm in the compilation of sources.

[Trisquel-users] 802.11n usb ar9271 chipset works when connected to computer?
I read this https://trisquel.info/en/forum/ralink-rt3070-usb-wifi-nic-wont-work-device-not-ready-network-manager If I connect a 802.11n usb ar9271 chipset device to a trisquel computer, it will work? Regarding driver nothing more apply and I have a free software device?
Re: [Trisquel-users] cant use my devices in loginscreen
For nVidia devices you're often better moving to a newer kernel - personally I use jxself's linux-libre which is designed for Trisquel here: http://jxself.org/linux-libre/ Then for your keyboard problems try the solution here: https://trisquel.info/en/forum/keyboard-lag-trisquel-7 But it does rather sound like you've disturbed the ribbon cable for a laptop keyboard touchpad. For which you need to search Youtube for disassembly instructions for your specific model - they should mention any special measures for reassembly.

[Trisquel-users] Antwort: cant use my devices in loginscreen
thank you! i will try with my 4th trisquel install... i had the belenos lts eol upgrade kernel installed. the keyboard issue is not connected to trisquel. but i'm forced, for not having lags, to go to suspend and wake it up. then my keyboard works, but the screen looks weird ( at my external hdmi display not). after restarting everything worked fine (for some reason i dont know -maybe keyboard issue- i have to plug my mouse out and in again), until the ubuntu nouveau driver install.
Re: [Trisquel-users] cant use my devices in loginscreen
Lembas wrote a good page on workarounds for issues with Suspend/Resume here: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/troubleshooting-suspendhibernate I recommend you experiment with them as it suggests.

ok i will try. thank you!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Learning self-defense
Trisquel uses AppArmor which is an easier to configure alternative to SELinux. E.g. last time I looked in Toutatis the supplied Samba and CUPS are running under AppArmor profiles to help protect against zero day attacks. I suggest you learn this instead (Search the web).
Re: [Trisquel-users] Learning self-defense
SELinux was developed by the NSA and as such attracts some suspicion. However, it was open sourced and released under the GPL in the year 2000. It can be a major PITA. For example, if you're going to install a parallel distro/OS then disable SELinux first or the next time you try to boot it will want to run long winded checks. Disabling it as easy as changing 'enabled' to 'disabled' in the appropriate conf file.
Re: [Trisquel-users] 802.11n usb ar9271 chipset works when connected to computer?
Thank you. What if you buy an usb ar9271 device, which is not endorsed by fsf? Will it have non free firmware? On tehnoetic's site it says 'you don't have to manually install the [free software] firmware'. I do not get this site https://github.com/qca/open-ath9k-htc-firmware. Does it mean I first have to install open firmware on the non fsf usb ar9271 device to get it to apply to fsf standards and how do I do it?
Re: [Trisquel-users] 802.11n usb ar9271 chipset works when connected to computer?
On 26.09.2014 19:23, svh...@gmail.com wrote: Thank you. What if you buy an usb ar9271 device, which is not endorsed by fsf? If you are absolutely sure it's AR9271 and not other chipset, while the version of the that wifi adapter is still left unchanged, then it will work with free software. If it isn't installed already, you can install a free firmware. If the tuple (device, seller) is endorsed by FSF, it means the seller (like Tehnoetic) checked for you it works with free software. We've automatically tested all adapters. Will it have non free firmware? On Debian, the nonfree firmware is packaged, recommended and available in an official Debian repository (non-free). On tehnoetic's site it says 'you don't have to manually install the [free software] firmware'. We are insisting on the free firmware. I believe Trisquel has it already installed. If not, you can install this package for Trisquel 6 (Toutatis): open-ath9k-htc-firmware -- Buy the freedom-respecting wifi http://tehnoetic.com/adapter
Re: [Trisquel-users] Fix for the GNU Bash shellshock vulnerability
Please check with this command : env x='() { :;}; echo vulnerable' bash -c 'echo this is a test' If this returns vulnerable then its not patched yet. If you get the below then shellshock bug is patched. ## bash: warning: x: ignoring function definition attempt bash: error importing function definition for `x' this is a test ## I have just upgraded the system for 6.0.1 and the shellshock bug seems to have been patched. I checked after the upgrade and I got the patched output. Please check and report if shellshock still persists or not.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Fix for the GNU Bash shellshock vulnerability

[Trisquel-users] Can' get VLC to be my default music player.
I can't make VLC my default music player. I even already have configured it to be my music and video player via System Settings - Details - Default Applications.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Fix for the GNU Bash shellshock vulnerability
Not patched on Trisquel 7 yet.
[Trisquel-users] Re : 802.11n usb ar9271 chipset works when connected to computer?
The meta-package trisquel-base depends on open-ath9k-htc-firmware. So, yes, it should already be installed.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Can' get VLC to be my default music player.
Whenever you have a file that does not open with your preferred application, you can: Close the undesired application; Right-click on the file you opened; Click on Properties in the contextual menu; See the Open with tab of the window that has just opened; Set the application of your choice as the default for *all* files of this type (WebM for instance).

I knew about selecting Monitor of before I made this post. It does not work. I installed parec. It does not work.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Fix for the GNU Bash shellshock vulnerability
Am I right in thinking that if I change the default shell on T7 (from bash to dash), that this will provide some security whilst awaiting a patch?
