Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't delete or restore folder from trash.
I did what you suggested and although it took some time to delete them, it worked in the end. Now things seem to be normal. Thanks for your help!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Brother DCP-7055 printer

Re: [Trisquel-users] Brother DCP-7055 printer
Try installing libcupsimage2-dev

Re: [Trisquel-users] Brother DCP-7055 printer
I couldn't edit that one; I think once someone replies you can't edit it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Brother DCP-7055 printer
thanks now it works so to give some help to amilopowers this is how you install 1. extract the archive 2.run these commands sudo apt-get install libcups2-dev libcupsimage2-dev 3. run ./configure if it gives you a error that it dosent have a certain program install it 4. run make if you just want the binary's run make install if you want to install the binary's you will most likley want to run make install 5. enjoy printing stuff just make sure you have lots of money to pay for the ink!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Adding Ubuntu Repositories to Trisquel Temporarily
This is true. If you look at the checksums of unpatched packages, they are the same as those in Ubuntu. For example, http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/amd64/python/download and http://packages.trisquel.info/belenos/amd64/python/download (scroll to the bottom for checksums) This package includes a build date and time (just run python and you'll see it) so different builds should be different.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Brother DCP-7055 printer
And I meant to say run ./configure, not autogen.sh.
Re: [Trisquel-users] No Gnome panel
yeah, you are right, didn't think about it... lol, I guess this stuff confuses me. I'll try to download gnome shell then, after I get the right wi-fi card. This one https://www.thinkpenguin.com/gnu-linux/penguin-wireless-n-half-height-mini-pcie-card is good if now I'm using this one http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-bluetooth.html? They look the same but I don't know this stuff so maybe they come in different size.
Re: [Trisquel-users] No Gnome panel
Questions: Do you still have gnome-panel in your system via apt-get or synaptic? What happens when you type gnome-panel into your terminal (without quotes of course)?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Using proprietary softwares through wine
Thanks, I'll try Ardour then. BTW I'd like to precise that I'm not even a musician, I just downloaded ableton cause sometimes I like to improvise something to kill time. So thanks for the help, but don't worry too much, trisquel users, I think I can live without ableton =P also cause I don't know if I have the will to install a crack through WINE. It's just that I was looking at all the softwares I'm using and this one was the only proprietary one(actually foobar too, but that one is not available for linux anyways) so I made this thread just to know how the transiction to trisquel would be. I guess on this forum, being this my first post, it looked like a possible troll.
[Trisquel-users] A one person Linux distro departs
I know Crunchbang Linux is not a Libre Distro., based on Debian Stable with openbox and alot of custom scripts, however, I include this forum link where the developer (corenominal) announces the end of the distro., as food for thought for all small distros. Crunchbang was around for over 10 years I believe, and had a strong following, but corenominal announced today, that he is retiring and ending the project. http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=38916p=1
Re: [Trisquel-users] Freedoom is awesome
Er... Freedoom is not a AAA game. That term refers to games with really high budgets and marketing, and I'm pretty sure Freedoom has little or none of either.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Freedoom is awesome
I have to admit that I have spent WAY too much time playing this. It is all the joy of Doom from the 90's but done so much better.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Freedoom is awesome
I know. 'AAA' implies quality, and I said We got Freedoom, bitches! implying that Freedoom was of higher quality than an AAA game in a half-jest half-not-jest manner.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Freedoom is awesome
Yea, it's pretty awesome. :) I've played Odamex with some great WADs- it's perfect.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Enable Wi-Fi disappears from network menu when ThinkPenguin's wireless USB ethernet adapter loses connection
what wifi card are you using i read and learned from experience that the wireless N card dose not tend work well with older computers but the wireless G card works very well on old and new also have you tried one of these to get more Ethernet ports i use them with my web-servers http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/netgear-8-port-gigabit-ethernet-switch-a12gy i got myn much cheaper than this though
Re: [Trisquel-users] Brother DCP-7055 printer

Re: [Trisquel-users] A one person Linux distro departs
Now you know why FLOSS projects backed by a company like Canonical, Google, or Red Hat are more sustainable than 1 man teams. Makes you wonder how much longer Ruben can keep this project going and bleed money working on it. Its sad to see Crunchbang go, but I never had a need to use it either.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Enable Wi-Fi disappears from network menu when ThinkPenguin's wireless USB ethernet adapter loses connection
My ISP gave me a Motorola Surfboard modem/router combo and it hates the Think Penguin adapter in both GNU/Linx and Windows 7. It would be nice that I could eventually use my own router.
Re: [Trisquel-users] A one person Linux distro departs
Well, I'm happy to say that Ruben has greatly improved Trisquel's development process and made it easier to contribute. Now all we need is more volunteers...
[Trisquel-users] Re : Help installing latest Anki version
Once gdebi installed, you can simply double-click on a .deb package to then ask for its installation/removal. At least, it works with Nautilus (GNOME and Trisquel's default file browser).

Re: [Trisquel-users] problems compiling from source
so how do i make this run on a gameboy? i tried renaming it to a .gb file and running it in a emulator but it gave me a error i assume this was becuase the file was in the ASCII format if the file was pure hex would it run?
Re: [Trisquel-users] USB port voltages - checking for reversed motherboard connectors
Both responses are correct: I was imagining that +12V pin (Pins 1 2 on Intel's drawing of the MB connector !) Those wire colors: Again, imagination played a role. The red wires of the two USB internal cables are indeed at the #1 and #2 pins now, even though the printing on the two cables' receptacles face opposite directions (outwards when correctly placed on the header). I'm too unsteady to attempt measurements with one of my clunky multimeters. Here are three links that I found useful this morning: http://pinouts.ru/Slots/usb_pinout.shtml http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Installing-Frontal-USB-Ports/90 http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Connecting-Two-PCs-Using-a-USB-USB-Cable/248
Re: [Trisquel-users] Help installing latest Anki version
Open the terminal emulator and do the following: $ sudo aptitude install gdebi Then, go to Anki's webpage and download the Ubuntu/Debian's version. Use the terminal emulator with the cd command to go to the directory where the new file is, for example: $ cd Downloads After that, use gdebi to install the package: $ sudo gdebi anki-2.0.31.deb
[Trisquel-users] Help installing latest Anki version
I'd like to install the latest Anki version. Not from the repository as this would install an older version. I tried to do it by downloading the latest package and using Package Manager to install but it doesn't work. Only the older version shows up when using that program. Maybe I'm missing something, anyone knows?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Help installing latest Anki version
Thanks. I was able to do it following your instructions.

One alternative could be Policeman https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/policeman/ I have not tested it but it has received good reviews.
[Trisquel-users] Re : Using proprietary softwares through wine
And, if you are searching for a better MIDI editing support than Ardour 3. Consider using Qtractor as a solution. I start every composition with it (even if it looks pretty ugly) and then record my MIDI track to a D.A.W like Ardour 2 ou 3. There is also plenty of plug-in to use with these softwares in the Trisquel repository. My opinion, as a professional sound engineer, is that lots of these free plug-in (like the calf and invada ones) are a lots better than lots of plug-in found in the proprietary world. Before I was using Pro Tools and Ableton Live, but, like I said, this was before I tried Ardour 2 and 3 libre plug-ins. And compared to lots of proprietary DAWs, libre DAWs have no other limits (no track or plug-in per track limit for instance) than your PC specs. For the cons, maybe you can find Ardour 2 and 3 with a different work-flow than Ableton Live, but once you learn how to use them you will get really fast with audio engineering.

[Trisquel-users] What is Trisquel 7 equivalent of libusb-0.1.12 ?
The 5-1/4 inch floppy reader that I'm installing in a Trisquel 7 system wants me to install libusb-0.1.12 in order to compile a suitable linux driver. Trouble is, sudo apt-get libusb-0.1.12 doesn't get me anywhere, nor does apropos libusb. Any suggestions ? There are other libusb-x.y.z's available; would one of those be appropriate ?

Solved ! Both USB ports work fine ... I actually had them plugged in OK from the get-go, but was nervous about testing, for fear of letting that magic smoke escape once again.

[Trisquel-users] Enable Wi-Fi disappears from network menu when ThinkPenguin's wireless USB ethernet adapter loses connection
In order to free up some ethernet lines on my router, I got a ThinkPenguin.com USB wireless ethernet adapter. It works OK, but my FIOS connection is flaky, and the wireless ethernet connection gets dropped frequently (on other PC's too). This is probably not ThinkPenguin's fault, but in order to regain my wireless connection, I have to move the USB wireless adapter to another USB port on my Trisquel 7 installation. If there were an Enable W-Fi menu item still there in my Networking menu, this would be no big deal, but that item disappears from the network menu when the wireless connection gets dropped, and it doesn't reappear until I move that USB wireless adapter to another port. Is there a Trisquel 7 command or application that can maintain that menu item for me ?
