Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
How underpowered? I'm using a 1.2Ghz Core Duo :D
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
Anybody still around using Pentium 4s?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
very nice christianity!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
Because this sounds like a troll post, I will respond with a troll reply. Open GIMP, click on the menu option File--Create--Screenshot. Check the radio button with the caption Take a screenshot of the entire screen, then press the Snap button. Use the menu option Image--Scale Image... Make sure the unit of measure is in pixels, then enter 100 in the height box, with the constrain (the chains next to the number boxes) on. Click on the constrain to turn it off, and enter a number in the width box roughly double its present value, then click on the Scale button. In GIMP 2.6, click on the menu option File--Save As..., but in GIMP 2.8, click on the File--Export... menu option instead. Choose the filename and location to save to, then open the hidden list near the bottom of the window with the Select File Type (By Extension) caption. Near the top should be ASCII Art. Click on it, then press Save. Make sure the selection box reads Text File, then press Save. Open the file in a text editor and paste it here.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
My laptop is a Pentium M, which is a mobile version of a Pentium 4. I also have a disused desktop computer with a P4 inside it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Swap not turning on by default?
funny - this happened to me on both laptops (I recently repaired one lappy a friend wanted to ditch and installed Trisquel on it just yesterday!) when installing Trisq encrypting the home folder. This is how I fixed it. I opened up gparted and formated the swap partition and then I took note of its uuid. in fstab I copied that uuid over the previous one and changed the /crystal/swap/.. to /dev/sda5 p.s - not sure if it was /crystal/swap but it was something like that.. and also the line of my swap partition in fstab was preceded by a # which I obviously removed.. I guess this is a known bug. If it is not someone should report it. cheers!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Swap not turning on by default?
ohh. you too? so it is a bug? nice you have fixed it!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 8600 with 1 GB of RAM, a 1.5 GHz CPU, and a 40 GB HDD.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
How do I copy and paste my desktop from Trisquel from my trisquel machine to the forum?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Swap not turning on by default?
Huh. So apparently, encrypting the /home partition causes the configuration to be screwed up somehow. I also noticed that there was a commented-out line that would have enabled swap... how odd. Anyway, I've got it fixed. Thanks, guys!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
oh wow, thanks for sharing! I will try it out!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Tax Calculator
Avoid logging and registration mandates at all cost! There is hundreds of Free on-line calculators at your disposal on the web. There is thousand of free tutorials on-line, design to teach or refresh your math skills. If you need other calculator programs for your PC, Trisquel has a very good repositories on calculators. If you really need to install from the GNU repositories then visit http://directory.fsf.org/wiki/Main_Page and do a search for it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Adding Douane Firewall to the Trisquel repositories?
Is this not possible? It's ok if it isn't. It just seems like a nice idea, but maybe someone could tell me yes, or no. Either answer is fine. If there is another program that can do this I'll install it. I just need to block all traffic, and whitelist individual processes as needed. Is there anyone here who has knowledge of this subject? What about the Comodo antivirus suite, I heard it has a firewall. Thanks
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
Pentium M? Having got one plugged to my TV, I guess that is underpowered - It won't decently run Popcorntime (with compositing enabled in Xfce, admittedly)! I'm looking to replace it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Popcorn Time not working
As far as I know, yes, they are.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
I thought setting up Unity would be less difficult though, but I'm happy with it now!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
Might I add that the SpiderOak software is proprietary with some GPLv3 tools, as Wikipedia puts it.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
dose it have the spyware? or has this been removed from the ubuntu version?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Cannot get widescreen resolution and use multiple monitors in Trisquel 7, like I could in Trisquel 6
Just in case it is useful to someone else: A few days ago I felt motivated to try out Trisquel 7 again. This time I tried to do what was suggested in http://trisquel.info/en/forum/trisquel-70-flash-disk-and-amd-raedonlimited-resolution: Commenting the line in /etc/modprobe.d/disable-radeon.conf, run 'sudo update-initramfs -u' and reboot the system. It didn't appear make any difference. But that's not very unexpected either because /etc/modprobe.d/disable-radeon.conf is present on Trisquel 6 as well, with the same contents. So, the clear things up a bit: It seems like radeon has always been blacklisted for me, both on Trisquel 6 and 7. In Trisquel 7, I now know for sure that xserver-xorg-video-vesa is being used. I have tried to remove other video driver packages and have not been able to see any difference. By removing xserver-xorg-video-vesa, though, I get no graphical interface after rebooting. Trisquel 6 and 7 uses different versions of that package: Trisquel 6: 1:2.3.0-7build2 Trisquel 7: 1:2.3.3-1build1 I tried downloading the Trisquel 6 .deb file and install, but that unsurprisingly didn't work very well. dpkg complained about unmet dependencies. After a reboot I got no graphical interface. My current idea is to try to recompile the Trisquel 6 version for Trisquel 7.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
I installed Unity Tweak Tool to disable all online contents from the Dash.
Re: [Trisquel-users] dosemu package
Since that package is inside of Debian contrib repository, I can't help you with installing it. If you are looking for a DOS emulator, I suggest you try DOSBox. It can be found in the Trisquel repo.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compiling xserver-xorg-video-vesa from source
I found git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-xorg/driver/xserver-xorg-video-vesa. I guess that's a proper repo, since it comes from debian. I also pretty quickly found a commit that remove mibstore.h
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compiling xserver-xorg-video-vesa from source
Here is how you would build the version that comes with the current Trisquel release: cd /tmp/ apt-get source xserver-xorg-video-vesa cd xserver-xorg-video-vesa-* sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-vesa dpkg-buildpackage -uc -us This will build the Debian package. It might not be that hard to build the sources from a different version in a similar way.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compiling xserver-xorg-video-vesa from source
I did this: cd /tmp wget http://archive.trisquel.info/trisquel/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-vesa/xserver-xorg-video-vesa_2.3.0-7build2.dsc http://archive.trisquel.info/trisquel/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-vesa/xserver-xorg-video-vesa_2.3.0.orig.tar.gz http://archive.trisquel.info/trisquel/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-vesa/xserver-xorg-video-vesa_2.3.0-7build2.diff.gz dpkg-source -x xserver-xorg-video-vesa_2.3.0-7build2.dsc cd xserver-xorg-video-vesa-2.3.0/ dpkg-buildpackage -uc -us But i seem to find a similar problem: ../../src/vesa.c:53:22: fatal error: mibstore.h: No such file or directory Hope I helped.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compiling xserver-xorg-video-vesa from source
... or just a couple of minutes later. I just downloaded the source code for the Trisquel 7 version as well. There, I managed to run both ./configure and make without errors. src/vesa.c does not try to include mibstore.h. It'd be useful if I could find a git repository so that I could more easily track what has changed between the versions.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compiling xserver-xorg-video-vesa from source
Wow, thank you! That's super useful!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
Well, I have an ownCloud instance running. You can use it, if you want. :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compiling xserver-xorg-video-vesa from source
Thank you! I just found the xorg-server-dev package by using Synaptic. After installing it, ./configure could be run without error messages!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
Yeah, I'm aware. The problem is, none of the alternatives listed at PRISM Break work for me. Ideally, I'd choose ownCloud, but I don't have a desktop to act as a server. Also, I can't afford Kolab Now's paid service and git-annex is unworkable for a commandline-avoider like me. It's not ideal, but it'll have to do for the time being.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compiling xserver-xorg-video-vesa from source
I am currently trying to run 'make'. That prints an aweful lot of warnings, and then errors out. First, 'mibstore.h' could not be found. I don't know where this file is supposed to be coming from. I tried commenting it out to be able to move on. Then I get the following errors: vesa.c:1134:5: error: too many arguments to function ‘pScreen-CloseScreen’ vesa.c:1273:26: error: ‘struct _ScrnInfoRec’ has no member named ‘domainIOBase’ vesa.c:1700:5: error: too many arguments to function ‘pScrn-SwitchMode’ vesa.c:1702:5: error: too many arguments to function ‘pScrn-AdjustFrame’ vesa.c:1710:5: error: too many arguments to function ‘pScrn-AdjustFrame’ I'll get back to it tommorrow.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
davidnotcoulthard I'm using compiz 0.9 with emerald on Belenos and it works great. Here is a tutorial I made for it: http://trisquel.info/es/forum/bring-compizs-animations-add-back-aka-compiz-plugins-extra-solved You can used the good old animations add-ons like the fire when closing windows, and as far as I can tell no glitches on the cube or 3d windows :)
[Trisquel-users] dosemu package
i cant fins any dosemu package? can i install it from debians package repo?
[Trisquel-users] Compiling xserver-xorg-video-vesa from source
I'd like to compile xserver-xorg-video-vesa from source. Why? The long version: http://trisquel.info/en/forum/cannot-get-widescreen-resolution-and-use-multiple-monitors-trisquel-7-i-could-trisquel-6 The short version: I suspect that the version used in Trisquel 6 works better with my computer than the version used in Trisquel 7. I'd like to try get the best of both Trisquel 6 and Trisquel 7! Moreover, it might be a good exercise to learn a bit more about compiling C code and whatever else might be involved. I'm familiar with using the command line, text editing and JavaScript programming. I don't know much C, though, but I've successfully compiled a few C programs made by others in the past. I have started by downloading the source code from http://packages.trisquel.info/toutatis/xserver-xorg-video-vesa (xserver-xorg-video-vesa_2.3.0.orig.tar.gz). I then tried to run ./configure. It complains about the packages xorg-server, xproto and fontsproto not being found. None of those appear to be present for installation from the repositories. Now I do not have any ideas on how to proceed. Any help is appreciated! Also, if it is not possible to downgrade xserver-xorg-video-vesa without also downgrading a bunch of other packages, which in the end would produce a system more like Trisquel 6, then please tell me. Then it's easier to just use Trisquel 6. But the slightly lower screen resolution in Trisquel 7 is not _that_ bad, so I might just stick with Trisquel 7 as it is. We'll see.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
ssd - that is one hell of a guide! :P
Re: [Trisquel-users] Cannot get widescreen resolution and use multiple monitors in Trisquel 7, like I could in Trisquel 6
I recently installed Trisquel 7 on an acer lappy with a radeon 4570. I know there can't be video acceleration and I don't care about it. But the resolution limited to 1024*768 is really annoying!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compiling xserver-xorg-video-vesa from source
try searching those package names in synaptic packages manager the packages might just be under a slightly different name
Re: [Trisquel-users] wc and modprobe
I did SMART tests/checks without errors using gnome-disks utility. The result of the Overall Assessment was Disk is OK. Root partition uses ext4 filesystem.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Swap not turning on by default?
This has been a known bug for some time now. Can read more about the bug here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ecryptfs-utils/+bug/953875
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
Thanks. I'm wanting to build a desktop computer. It was out of stock at Newegg, but I found it on Ebay. I'm having second thoughts about it though. I don't want have a computer that requires me to wear a HAZMAT suit while using it. :P

Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
Tomlukeywood, what motherboard are you using that supports 8 cores and (presumably) works with free software?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Popcorn Time not working
this is where you download it - no need to add third party ppas - https://popcorntime.io sudo apt-get install fonts-liberation cheers!

thats good
Re: [Trisquel-users] Popcorn Time not working

Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
Games? Surely there are a lot of good games for which PIVs are too weak, aren't there? What do you do with those?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
AFAIK, the default one in Trisquel 7 is lowlatency.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Cannot get widescreen resolution and use multiple monitors in Trisquel 7, like I could in Trisquel 6
Typical low resolutions for laptops are 1366x768, or 1280x800 for older ones. Whatever it is, it's pretty much universally widescreen.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
the motherboard uses a non-free bios but otherwise it works perfectly with libre software i got it here: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/asus-intel-p8z77-v-lx-with-smart-digi-power-socket-1155-motherboard-used-b91ny i found it on new-egg too: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131824
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
Wow Unity! that's nice can you tell me how install unity on my trisquel to look like yours?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Popcorn Time not working
Amazing! Installing the fonts did it for me! Huge thanks. Do you find it too concerning to use the WebUp8 PPA? They seem pretty trustworthy, no?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Share your Desktop!
Alij, I recommend you take a look at this: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/how-install-unity-desktop-environment-and-create-session-entry-trisquel-70 Afterwards, I recommend you install Unity Tweak Tool so that you can disable the online features of the Dash, which are a privacy concern. To install it, open the terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and type: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:freyja-dev/unity-tweak-tool-daily sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install unity-tweak-tool sudo apt-get install unity-webapps-common Done! You might want to remove the PPA after installing. If you want Trisquel to look even more like Ubuntu beyond the Dash, open Tweaks (or maybe it's called System Settings in English) and change the Appearance to Ambiance and the icons to Ubuntu-mono-dark. Let me know if it works for you. Cheers.
[Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
Hi There This afternoon I will try to install Trisquel via NetInstall. I am pretty shure that I will have to choose manually the appropriate kernel. Could somebody tell me how to determine the kernel I need? I have an Asus Zenbook UX31. http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_ZENBOOK_UX31E/ Thank you for your help.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
the default one is generic go for that
Re: [Trisquel-users] Which Kernel
Going for generic can't hurt. (It's called 'generic' for a reason:)
