Re: [Trisquel-users] I'm leaving Trisquel
you should return to trisquel too, I think i will as well.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I'm leaving Trisquel
you should return to trisquel too. we all should.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I'm leaving Trisquel
I missed his post the first time too. So looks like trisquel is alive and well.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I'm leaving Trisquel
yes getting all the forum posters here to use it is the first step haha.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I'm leaving Trisquel
I can't even convince fsf ones :(
Re: [Trisquel-users] I'm leaving Trisquel
if thats the case you might have to switch to chromium or firefox. rest of the system should get security patches till 2019 I would think.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I'm leaving Trisquel
what do you mean no security updates? It just gets them a day late, its good till 2019. I used to just wait a day to use trisquel if it was serious then update the next day. Go to https://www.ubuntu.com/usn/ and then compare your version of the file.or apt log if it applies to trisquel. I don't have trisquel installed anymore either cause I'm doing steam gaming now. But I doubt that would have changed, unless it broke. The browsers might be a diff story. If they aren't getting updated you might have to just change to something more mainstream.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Home email server
Supertramp/lloydsmart: thank you both so much for pointing out Mailinabox. I migrated my personal domain to it a month ago. My Mailinabox server scores 10/10 at mail-tester.com and received an "A+" security evaluation from a scan by Qualys SSL Labs. I couldn't be happier with it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] firefox addons spy on you, what to do?
> Why do they not make an abrowser trisquel debian package? Because it's not the Trisquel maintainers' job to make and maintain a package for Debian. If you want an Abrowser package in Debian, no one is stopping you from making and maintaining one.
Re: [Trisquel-users] firefox addons spy on you, what to do?
tonlee, as Magique said, first of all make sure it is free software, then all you can do is you trust only well known and trustworthy developers. Don't install things you don't need, this should be the "philosophy" of it, I think.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Locked out of Admin log in
So, right now, when I'm at the main screen in GRUB I enter "c" to go to the command-line. Type "unset superusers" press enter, ESC out, press enter, now I'm at the screen where I can either select Trisquel GNU Linux or Advanced options. At this point I press "e" instead of the username and password prompt being disabled it still pops up. Any ideas why?
Re: [Trisquel-users] gnu social
Thanks for the link. It looks like if I wanna use D, I have to deal with js. LOL about that ps and pic. :)Comment
Re: [Trisquel-users] firefox addons spy on you, what to do?
Yes. I have been suspecting addons to do what is described in the broadcast. It is much like many apps on android and ios. If some addons are not malware, I would know how to verify?
Re: [Trisquel-users] firefox addons spy on you, what to do?
I disliked how the firefox gui got modified. I do not know if firefox can get configured to the previous gui. That is why I installed the restore theme addon. An addon that I do not trust and would prefer not to use. Same about the addons zoom button and manually sort folders on thunderbird. On firefox I have installed addons disconnect google, fb and twitter. I do not know if they can be trusted and if they are libre software.
Re: [Trisquel-users] firefox addons spy on you, what to do?
Thanks. If it is a trisquel browser, do they not want people to install abrowser on other distributions? Why do they not make an abrowser trisquel debian package? Who at trisquel should I ask?
Re: [Trisquel-users] New security addons
I can't get Privacy Badger to load in IceCat.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel screenshot has been replaced by gNewSense on front page of gnu.org
Today downloaded CIH & Morris worm & flashrom. About Free PC Project: I downloaded Libreboot but I don't know how to port it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel screenshot has been replaced by gNewSense on front page of gnu.org
this was in reply to stas
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel screenshot has been replaced by gNewSense on front page of gnu.org
Says the guy who announces dozens of projects, yet finishes (read: starts working on) none.
Re: [Trisquel-users] gnu social
warrior, aye? hehheheh you. :D Yea maybe I reacted over the top, but I want you to know I appreciate your honesty. When I had winblows, I saw the hosts file, but haven't seen that anyplace else. I may have to go back to IceCat because their fonts are better for me. A few days ago I tried getting your prefs in there but forgot how, so I re-read your instructions and will try again before using it. I have Ublock there already, so I just have to tweak it. I still have to see which gnu social group I wanna try, though I miss the news I got from D. I'll have to see what this onionland is about, as I recall, it's a Tor thing. Thank you for all your help. :)

Re: [Trisquel-users] Need to Uninstall Trisquel
Oh ok. Thanks. I've been reading a few threads here about security, it seems among the regulars who offer advice, you have answered many of them. I really appreciate your advice. If I get it through Synaptic, I hope I'll get the latest version. When I had it, I don't remember what version it was, or when I downloaded it. on IRC, I met some good people in the Trisquel room and the FSF room, 3 of them I remembered their names, are in this forum, very helpful. I couldn't have gotten this far without all the tech support I got. :D
Re: [Trisquel-users] firefox addons spy on you, what to do?
As you so eloquently put it, "Ill have to disagree with the incredibleness, deficient and eloquent users." Well then please explain to us poor deficient users HOW to access and change those settings. What about modems? I know if I knew how to do it, I would. The router I used to have had instructions on how to get into it, change the pw and change other settings. How many people do you know who know what Trisquel is, or what the FSF is?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Need to Uninstall Trisquel
>I saw a message from SuperTramp about hexchat being better than pidgin for better security and less bloatware. Though I like Pidgin, if it's not very secure, I'll stay away from it. Pidgin has had its fair share of security vulnerabilities. Apparently the libpurple is not considered very secure. That being said, I use pidgin for xmpp/IRC, latest version, apparmored and firejailed, safe enough :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] New security addons
I allow just: diaspora, gnusocial and mediagoblin. I rarely visit gnusocial though.
Re: [Trisquel-users] gnu social
>In another thread I saw you say HexChat is more secure than Pidgin, and less bloated Well, if we are talking about IRC alone, sure, hexchat is a way less bloated option and also a more secure one. If Pidgin just make sure it is the latest version.
Re: [Trisquel-users] sudo passwd doesn’t change password
Thanks is indeed a good point. Some times one tend to forget that the man pages are there for a reason. Many thanks. All the best for you and all the forum.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Your battery status is being used to track you online
My battery is broken.
Re: [Trisquel-users] sudo passwd doesn’t change password
Whenever some command fails to perform, read its manual page. E.g.man passwd
