> But I have tried quite a lot to find ways to make vlc work with Matruska and it annoys me that I couldn't find the solution. Like I said, Matroska files can contain just about any kind of data, so you can't tell just by the fact that it's a Matroska file whether or not your system can play it. It's not like WebM or MPEG-4 where only a couple designated and related codecs are valid. In those cases, it's pretty easy to tell because there aren't a lot of possibilities. But with a Matroska file, it could be anything ranging from Theory to VP8 to h.264 and just about anything else.
Re: [Trisquel-users] DRM free iPod alternative
DRM-free? That's super common, literally any other portable media player that isn't an iPod will fit the bill. But if you actually mean something powered by libre software, that's much harder and the closest thing to that I can think of is the OpenPandora (although it wouldn't surprise me if there's something better; I haven't really looked). (The media player previously sold by Think Penguin was not an example, it was just a standard media player that worked with GNU/Linux computers.)

Rockbox perhaps? http://www.rockbox.org/
[Trisquel-users] DRM free iPod alternative
I recall in the past this being available somewhere, perhaps ThinkPenguin, but I am unable to locate it. Any ideas? I remember it looking similar to an iPod but was FOSS.

Thanks to you my friends cantor, HuangLao, dany4president, I am happy you like them :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Development of Trisquel 8.0 "Flidas" Software proposal by category : Multimedia
Thanks. Regarding the "Of course it does" thing I am glad and annoyed at the same time. First of all I glad to hear that I am wrong (if I am). But I have tried quite a lot to find ways to make vlc work with Matruska and it annoys me that I couldn't find the solution. It must be a very common scenario. I'm not blaming anyone, just being annoyed.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Worried about "think" means "not sure" which to a security/privacy seeking itiot like me means: Could be a risk to privacy/security.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Jitsi
Pleas let us know how you progress. Are you trying jitsi meet or just plain jitsi?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Hexoshi - New Metroid-like game I'm developing is being crowdfunded
Nah, more like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the NES, Castlevania III, or Mega Man ZX Advent. Where you only have one position, but can switch out between different characters that have different abilities at will. But again, it's probably not what I'm going to do, mainly because that would add more cost than it's probably worth. If someone were to volunteer to do the animations for extra characters, that would make it more likely of a possibility.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Hexoshi - New Metroid-like game I'm developing is being crowdfunded
> I'm thinking at this point that Anneroy will be the only playable character, but I haven't taken the idea of switchable characters (as in, characters with different abilities you can switch between in-game) off the table entirely. Switchable characters like Open Sonic?: opensnc.sourceforge.net

Re: [Trisquel-users] I need orientation for buying an Arduino
I have been searching for an as-free-as-posible SBC for some time. I own: - Beaglebone Black - Beaglebone Green - Beaglebone Green wifi - Olimex Lime - Olimex Lime2 - Raspberry Pi 2 - Raspberry Pi 3 - Odroid C2 - Raspberry Pi Zero - Banana Pi - Orange Pi plus - I have ordered an Eoma86 I have been using Debian (standard comes with non-free activated), Arch, Bananian, Armbian, Ubuntu Mate, Angstrom and Raspbian on these boards. What is the deal with the Banana Pi? Is it any good from a "free" point of view? I know it is far from free but what is the closest thing we can get not including the Eoma86?
Re: [Trisquel-users] I did Trisquel Wallpapers
Awesome! Thank you for sharing these wallpapers! I love the blue ones!
Re: [Trisquel-users] I need orientation for buying an Arduino
The Banana Pi seems the best bet and i am running it with ARMbian at the moment and I have also installed Arch on one of the board which I am trying to convert to Parabola but no luck up yet. If anyone has some ideas on this I would be happy to hear them. Well, once I was playing with the BPI, I installed it Arch and then tried to move to Parabola, I was very near to achieve it, but I had to give it back, because it was borrowed.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8 iso images updated
Hello, I was hoping to try Trisquel 8 as a live USB (actually a live microSD), but my USB wifi adapter isn't working with it. Dmesg says: ath9k_htc: failed to get firmware htc_9271.fw I bought this particular wifi adapter because I read that it is free-software-friendly. It works with Trisquel 7. How can I get this firmware loaded onto the microSD card? Thanks for your help.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8 iso images updated
Typing from Trisquel 8 now. It is running really well. The only thing I have noticed is that `libsdl1.2-dev` is missing from the repo so I cannot compile the latest `mednafen` from source.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8 iso images updated
Wonderful background!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8 iso images updated
Sure it is stable in that sense, I meant "officially". Also, I was mistaken, it is considered Beta now: "Welcome to Devuan Jessie 1.0 Beta2". Ref: https://devuan.org/
Re: [Trisquel-users] Jitsi
Since I'm a bit less tired (and defeatist as a consequence), I want to give it a try. I don't understand all the intricacies, but localhost shouldn't be able to communicate with the outside world. So no surprise it doesn't work. Feel free to participate, else don't hold your breath, I'm gonna take my time with this one.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8 iso images updated
It includes an installer. It's still a little rough around the edges because it's alpha but I'm running it now and it's usable.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 8 iso images updated
I couldn't either. I downloaded it from the server.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
Worried about what? The license of the theme is GPLv3.
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
https://libreboot.org/docs/hcl/imac52.html It seems they know but haven't had the time yet, so I guess you are right, CalmStorm, they would probably appreciate that
Re: [Trisquel-users] xfce problems
I also would like to flash Libreboot myself I know what you mean. That one reason why I supplemented my x200 with a MacBook2,1 :-)
Re: [Trisquel-users] I need orientation for buying an Arduino
Hi, I have some experience with the Arduino. I teach kids at school how to use Arduino's. I am using laptops with Debian installed. The Arduino is then connected to the laptop trough serial USB and we use the official Arduino IDE (which is in the Debian repo's as well as Parabola and I suspect Trisquel). I also have a 3d printer using an Arduino MEGA. We use the Arduino UNO to blink LED's, sound buzzers and we build a robot (with an extra motor shield[1]). The programming is done on the laptop in the IDE (which is very similar to C) and then compiled and uploaded to the board .The board does not run an OS or something like that. The advantage is that the program is stored on the board and start the moment the board gets power. I can just connect a 9V battary and it will start the last uploaded program which makes it ideal for robots and projects that have no need for a computer. On Debian it is plug and play but I had some trouble getting it to work on Parabola. A few days ago I sent some time on #parabola IRC in order to get it to work. There were problems with avrdude and at the moment i only got it working as root. Regarding teaching children and programming, I also use Raspberry Pi's (i have posted about it on this board before) but am looking to change that. I have also tried the BeagleBone (black and the new Green one with grove connectors and wifi), the Orange Pi plus and the Banana Pi but they all have some sort of negative side compared with the Pi. The Banana Pi seems the best bet and i am running it with ARMbian at the moment and I have also installed Arch on one of the board which I am trying to convert to Parabola but no luck up yet. If anyone has some ideas on this I would be happy to hear them. Hope this helps a bit, let me know if you need more info! [1] https://hackerstore.nl/Artikel/464
