[Trisquel-users] Other Languages
I was helping translate the LibertyBSD site in Chinese. I was thinking what is the standard by which Trisquel Forums use for choosing which languages apply? If for the amount of people that speak it, why Catalan and not Chinese? And if it's to appeal to certain groups, why not languages like Esperanto?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Other Languages
Edit: Not Catalan, Gallego*
Re: [Trisquel-users] I had 2 Win Trojans after installing Mono
I never run any programme as root unless it's to install new software, but apparently, I did. And apparently, it's a ClamAv issue, rather. I found this: http://r.virscan.org/report/4621a61590b1baedba405dfe10d68675 I ran some .net programmes a friend of mine created to modify gba rom files. I am helping him test these programmes. Apparently ClamAv detects them as Trojans. After doing some research, it seems it wasn't a trojan. I deleted it manually already, though... http://r.virscan.org/report/4621a61590b1baedba405dfe10d68675
[Trisquel-users] I had 2 Win Trojans after installing Mono
So, I installed Mono so I would be able to run .Net applications. I installed it from the main repositories. This was some days ago. Today I run ClamAv Antivirus and it found I had 2 files infected. One was in a root location. So I'm wondering if these could damage my sistem: /home/james-saviour/Programmes/Games/Pokemon/ROM-Hackers-GBA-Tool-Pack/A-Ptch.zip: Win.Trojan.10483043-1 FOUND /home/james-saviour/Programmes/Games/Pokemon/ROM-Hackers-GBA-Tool-Pack/Advance Text.zip: Win.Trojan.Agent-836840 FOUND /home/james-saviour/.wine/drive_c/windows/mono/mono-2.0/bin/MonoPosixHelper-x86_64.dll: Win.Trojan.Agent-1429193 FOUND /root/.wine/drive_c/windows/mono/mono-2.0/bin/MonoPosixHelper-x86_64.dll: Win.Trojan.Agent-1429193 FOUND And this, which I don't know what it is (Spyware?): /usr/share/doc/python-libxml2/examples/reader2.py: Xml.Exploit.CVE_2013_3860-1 FOUND
Re: [Trisquel-users] I'm leaving Trisquel
Totally agree, we must have a Trisquel Users Board, as soon as possible...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Compatible Hardware for Lenovo T61
May I know which Rams were compatible with yours? :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] I'm leaving Trisquel
You can become a translator by going to the Documentation and clicking on Translate on any of the docs. I'll attach some screenshots so you can see... And if you mean translator for software, since Libre Software is not one but many. You can use these sites for translating programmes (localisation) https://launchpad.net/ http://pootle.translatehouse.org/index.html http://zanata.org/ I've helped translate projects like Tor, Midori, MATE over the years... I hope this is useful for you! :D
[Trisquel-users] Compatible Hardware for Lenovo T61
I have a Lenovo T61 and I'm in a low budget planning on buying this SSD: (Just showing amazon for demonstrative purposes, since I'll order them directly from the manufacturer) https://www.amazon.com/Kingspec-SATAIII-SMI2246XT-controller-ACSC2M064S25/dp/B00Z6THYYU/ref=pd_cp_147_1?ie=UTF8=1=CR5KF802YZJ65FAGJ5K8 And I was planning on upgrading to 8gb 800mhz Ram. I am not so sure if the T61 supports 800mhz Ram. And after seeing the price, I plan just to upgrade it to 4gb 800mhz ram. It has 3gb 667mhz ram (1gb + 2gb) What would you recommend? I can buy two 2gb 800mhz Ram, or one 4gb 800mhz Ram but then I would have to leave the 2gb 667mhz ram the computer has installed. If I do this, I'll have an opportunity to buy the next 4gb 800mhz ram in the future... but I'm not sure if it'd be compatible with the 667mhz? So these are my options: https://www.amazon.com/Komputerbay-DDR2-SODIMM-800Mhz-6400/dp/B003O9OFE6/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8=1468958972=8-7=laptop+ddr2+ram+8gb+800mhz https://www.amazon.com/Studio-Notebook-SO-DIMM-NON-ECC-800MHz/dp/B00VO5R832/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8=1468959030=8-19=laptop+ddr2+ram+8gb+800mhz https://www.amazon.com/Memory-Inspiron-Pentium-Dual-Core-Arch/dp/B009KVN21Y/ref=sr_1_40?ie=UTF8=1468959076=8-40=laptop+ddr2+ram+8gb+800mhz https://www.amazon.com/GB-SNPTX760CK2-A7548317-Certified-Unbuffered/dp/B00SW54KJC/ref=sr_1_44?ie=UTF8=1468959076=8-44=laptop+ddr2+ram+8gb+800mhz Also in the manufacturer's page, it says "PC2-5300" so not sure if it'd be compatible with all of the above: "PC2-5300 Non-Parity (NP) Double Data Rate Two (DDR2) Technology The use of 667 MHz SO DIMM memory is recommended for this system. Recommended for memory expansion are 512 MB, 1 GB, and 2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667 MHz SO DIMM" But I understand since they didn't have 4gb 800mhz ram memories at that time. And I already installed the Middleton Bios Update, so it would be able to accept 4gb and the SATA III will work at full speed as intended. And also the Battery life has already ended. So I was thinking I could buy one battery like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B005IF78MK/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8=new I would really like to hear your comments, since I need this computer to communicate with my family while I'm abroad. I'll be abroad for 4 years.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't get TOR to work
I checked and it was the time. And no, I am not in a place with restricted Internet Access...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't get TOR to work
I fixed the problem. It was my mistake. It was 9 am, but I use the 24 hour format. So when changing the time I was always placing 9 instead of 21... Hahaha, so funny... anyway, yeah, that was the error, thank you! :)

There's no way to even know if you are a US Citizen. No one is implying you promote Trump... I agree about not banning certain videos when in Europe they think that's hateful speech, when the general global consensus it might not be... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vVohGWhMWs

Re: [Trisquel-users] EU: All your internet are belong to us
Because Americans have a taboo towards communism. I never implied you said Communism was bad. That was added up by me. "While hate speech is everything counter to the current political establishment believes." This doesn't answer my question, you decided to issue something else by saying "in practice"... Let's leave Pragmatism for a moment. In theory what are they? (That's my question)

Re: [Trisquel-users] Which is your favorite search engine and why?
Tor suggests: https://search.disconnect.me I've read their privacy policy which stills seems not secure, because it stores data: Nothing in this policy contradicts the following statements: We don’t collect any of your personal info, including your IP address, other than information you voluntarily provide. We don’t sell your personal info to advertisers or other third parties. We share your personal info only when legally required, or when reasonably necessary to prevent harm in an emergency situation. We retain your personal info, excluding info you make public, for no more than 30 days after you request deletion. I also like Startpage & Ixquick for their Proxy feature but they are propietary... Duckduckgo.com/html seems to be the safest one... but, I've noticed Noscript has found that in the Javascript code there is something linked to Yahoo... I can't find it now, but as soon as I find it, I'll upload it here... Also, it may be because of this: "Some of DuckDuckGo's source code is free software hosted at GitHub under the Apache 2.0 License,[9] but the core is proprietary. On 21 May 2014, DuckDuckGo launched a redesigned version that focused on smarter answers and a more refined look. The new version added often requested features such as images, local search, auto-suggest and more" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DuckDuckGo
Re: [Trisquel-users] New Lenovo T61 Ath9k not working
Yeah, I installed it. I have a doubt about the SATA II, it mentions that it doesn't transmit data 1.5 mb/s or something like that, but with the custom BIOS is 3 mb/s. Does it mean my Hard Disk will be faster?

[Trisquel-users] New Lenovo T61 Ath9k not working
I bought this PC in the US since in my home country I haven't been able to find a laptop fully compatible with GNU. The issue is that I cannot connect through Wifi when I'm using Trisquel 6/7 or Gnewsense 3/4. I connected to the Internet now with Lubuntu 13.04... As far as I know the driver is already in the Linux Kernel, so there shouldn't be any issue using Wifi, but there is... I have tried many troubleshootings that I've found in forums but yet I'm unable to use wifi. Aside from that when I apt-get update, there seems to be an error at the end. I reinstalled the kernel already, but it doesn't seem to work...
[Trisquel-users] SELinux and an interesting Warning on Blag
If you scroll down until you see the last two topics, you'll read this: Firewall SELinux File:30k-blag-install-14-firewall.png BLAG does not enable SELinux on install. Some legacy applications do not work with SELinux. If you wish to enabled it in the future, you can run system-config-securitylevel Link: http://blag.fsf.org/wiki/index.php/Installation Warning: This file type may contain malicious code. By executing it, your system may be compromised. http://blag.fsf.org/wiki/index.php/File:30k-blag-install-14-firewall.png So, does it mean Blag team found something on SELinux that can threaten our privacy because it was developed by the NSA?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Security Enhanced Linux Kernel? Eh? What's going on here? O.o!
Well, I meant that if it had a malicious feature, it shouldn't have been licensed under GPL. Nonetheless, by reading other comments I'm more relieved to the fact that no one has found anything about it... but we should be aware...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Security Enhanced Linux Kernel? Eh? What's going on here? O.o!
Has it been fixed? Or do they continue doing that?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Security Enhanced Linux Kernel? Eh? What's going on here? O.o!
Yeah, I've been doing a little research, and it seems that everybody is saying: It's licensed under GPL, we should be safe and You can look into the source code But so far, nobody was reviewing it... I think we're not being so cautious...

Re: [Trisquel-users] Security Enhanced Linux Kernel? Eh? What's going on here? O.o!
Oh, if the NSA had added any malicious feature that we are not aware of, it must have been licensed differently. Well, at least because it's licensed under GPL the programmers can look into the source code.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Security Enhanced Linux Kernel? Eh? What's going on here? O.o!
Just to be sure, before it gets to my repos, was there someone reviewing it before adding it to the repositories?

Re: [Trisquel-users] Security Enhanced Linux Kernel? Eh? What's going on here? O.o!
I beg your pardon, what do you mean by ominous ellipsis? Did I say something offensive or disgusting? (I never intended that, if so, my apologies...)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Security Enhanced Linux Kernel? Eh? What's going on here? O.o!
And why is it on Trisquel? http://packages.trisquel.info/uk/taranis/libselinux1 GOSH!
Re: [Trisquel-users] Security Enhanced Linux Kernel? Eh? What's going on here? O.o!
Well, I mean. If it has been provided by the NSA, and it licensed under GPL... it should have been changed a while ago. Is there anyway to disable or change it? I know, it's free software, nonetheless, I'm not a programmer, so I cannot look into the source code myself and check if there is any backdoor. (I don't intend being paranoid) I just want to avoid it, you know... :(
[Trisquel-users] Abrowser for other Distros just like IceCat
Well, I've been looking for Abrowser for my Alpha Blag and Gnewsense 3.1 but I haven't been able to find it, is it because when I look for it on Duckduckgo it thinks it is A browser?
[Trisquel-users] Translation Issue
Today I took the time to translate a little bit the documentation to Spanish, so because I'm not a programmer at least I can help with it... I didn't notice I left Philosphy instead of Filosofía. And now it wouldn't let me change it. Do you know how to do it? https://trisquel.info/es/wiki/philosophy And it's a bigger issue because this one depends on that one (which I also took the time to translate): https://trisquel.info/es/wiki/especificaci%C3%B3n-sobre-libertad
[Trisquel-users] Security Enhanced Linux Kernel? Eh? What's going on here? O.o!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Security-Enhanced_Linux Wow. I'm just SHOCKED! Why was it released under GPL and no one has stopped them from re-licensing it?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't install Trisquel 7 because of Resolution Problems
Is this what you mean? Since Linux is a secondary contribution, would it be false to the facts to call the system simply “GNU”? (#justgnu) It would not be false to the facts, but it is not the best thing to do. Here are the reasons we call that system version “GNU/Linux” rather than just “GNU”: It's not exactly GNU—it has a different kernel (that is, Linux). Distinguishing GNU/Linux from GNU is useful. It would be ungentlemanly to ask people to stop giving any credit to Linus Torvalds. He did write an important component of the system. We want to get credit for launching and sustaining the system's development, but this doesn't mean we should treat Linus the same way those who call the system “Linux” treat us. We strongly disagree with his political views, but we deal with that disagreement honorably and openly, rather than by trying to cut him out of the credit for his contribution to the system. Since many people know of the system as “Linux”, if we say “GNU” they may simply not recognize we're talking about the same system. If we say “GNU/Linux”, they can make a connection to what they have heard about. I read it before, moreover now I think we should call it just GNU between us, because sooner we'll get Hurd as an Optional Kernel, unless we choose to call it as well GNU/Hurd... If we do, then it'd be ok to keep calling it GNU/Linux
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't install Trisquel 7 because of Resolution Problems
What do you mean by removing the blacklist for radeon? By the way, I've searched Optiplex 320 and everybody is having one issue or another while installing GNU...
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't install Trisquel 7 because of Resolution Problems
Do you mean that similar to an Arch installation?

Yeah, but couldn't find a tutorial on how to compile that one... I had issues with Icecat 17, so I kept the IceCat 14... Does it work the same?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gnewsense and Blag
When was it last modified? Isn't it the same as this one? http://www.blagblagblag.org/download/index.html
Re: [Trisquel-users] Haldol | No Dr Buy Cheap Pills
Do you think you're gonna sell something here?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gnewsense and Blag
Yeah, I compiled it. I followed this instructions: http://www.gnewsense.org/Documentation/3/MiscellaneousGuides/CompileGnuIcecatSeventeen
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gnewsense and Blag
You see, this is what happened when I tried to install the .deb from http://packages.trisquel.info/toutatis-updates/amd64/icecat/download And I attached an image so you can see that I couldn't install it. By the way, I'm in Gnewsense, just to point it out.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't install Trisquel 7 because of Resolution Problems
Well, are there any instructions on how to do it? I mean, when I netinstall Trisquel, it'll be something similar to the Text Install of Debian?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Haldol | No Dr Buy Cheap Pills
Isn't there someone (Adm.) that can ban him?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gnewsense and Blag
You know, I like the idea of the Libre Forum. By the way, very useful information. Thank you! :)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't install Trisquel 7 because of Resolution Problems
I can give it a try, but I'd like to have GUI because I feel more comfortable with it, and how would I do that?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can't install Trisquel 7 because of Resolution Problems
Oh, h... yeah, but how would I do that if I can't access the OS? That's the issue...
[Trisquel-users] Can't install Trisquel 7 because of Resolution Problems
I've been using Trisquel for the last 2 years now and I liked it a lot. I changed to Gnewsense because I couldn't install Trisquel 7 for 64x because whenever I try to boot the computer with the LiveCD it doesn't show me the resolution. The monitor says something like: Resolution not supported. I have a Dell Optiplex 320 with an integrated Ati Xpress 200, 4Gb of Ram and an Intel Pentium D 3.00Ghz. I had that issue before with Trisquel 6 but just with the Splash screen or the GRUB that wasn't shown (I cannot remember which one it was...) I fixed it with a program that changed the resolution. It was through GUI. Now, not even the login screen is shown. And I cannot use the LiveCD to download any tool to help me fix it. Any idea?
Re: [Trisquel-users] Gnewsense and Blag
I liked the idea that Blag was based on Fedora. I think the FSF keeps Blag on the distro list is because there are people with very old hardware would be using those old distros. Nonetheless, you've got a point. There should be AT LEAST a separation where they put: These are the distros maintained more closely, and one that helps programmers focus These are the distros that should be maintained Check this out regarding the new version of Gnewsense: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNewSense Go to the part in which there is listed the Gnewsense versions. Since Gnewsense 4 will be based on Debian 7, we'll have availability for better packages like those of Libre Office or Icecat. Since I'm using Gnewsense 3.1 I had to compile Icecat 14 on my own. For some reason, I couldn't compile Icecat 17, so by getting it from Debian 7, Gnewsense will not have too many issues like this.
[Trisquel-users] Gnewsense and Blag
Aside from my beloved Trisquel. I'd like to contribute to the Blag and Gnewsense projects. The problem is that there's not an active community (as far as I know)... Yeah, I know, I can contact them by the IRC channel, but it is not as engaging. I'm not a programmer, but I've helped with translations with the TOR project and the Mate Project. Any suggestion? Oh, and also what do you think about both distros, and I'd like to know about how outdated they are, and how many programs do they have less... Also, which one is more updated, Gnewsense or Blag? (Which I think Gnewsense would be) Have you heard of Gnewsense 4? It'll be based on Debian 7... or do you think it is still too outdated. By the time I'm writing this, I'm using Gnewsense...
